our mission of helping to make Bay Village an even better place to live, work
and play.

Letter from the Desk of the President
May 1, 2018 Dear Friends: 2017 was another successful year for The Bay Village Foundation thanks to our many supporters. We awarded grants totaling nearly $17,000 to the Bay Village Green Team, Youth Challenge, The Village Project, Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, Destination Bay, the Bay Village Historical Society and The Carolyn L. Farrell Foundation. These grants were awarded based on their ability to help improve life in Bay Village. Over the past 5 years, we have awarded over $65,000 to more than 20 different Bay organizations. We helped raise over $10,000 in 2017 for hurricane victims by sponsoring a community rummage sale, run by Annie Nock and her team of volunteers. And we awarded three $2,000 college scholarships to members of the Bay High senior class (Will Huntington, Madison Noren, and Anna Walker). The Foundation has now awarded scholarships totaling over $61,000 to 35 Bay seniors since 2002. We completed the refurbishing of Play-in-Bay with the help of nearly 370 donors and held a grand re-opening in the Spring, where this project was awarded the Bay Village Community Council Project of the Year award. I hope you have had a chance to enjoy the changes and additions to the playground with your children/grandchildren. We have received outstanding feedback from many people about the enhancements that were made. The Foundation’s annual fireworks fund continues to grow, allowing us to support the community’s fireworks display every 4th of July. Bay Days would not quite be the same without fireworks, so we are excited about the success in growing this fund. The Foundation’s assets grew to $483,742 in 2017. This is so important, as we position the Foundation to be a valuable part of Bay Village for many, many years to come. Thank you to all those who supported the Foundation, whether through our annual appeal letter, the 8th annual Heritage Run/Walk, or other gifts, all of which achieved new records this year. I also want to thank trustees Ellie Bricmont, Mark Flash and Steve Lee, and student trustees Katherine Finley and Jack Lee, who retired from our Board in 2017. We will miss their tremendous commitment to the Foundation and to our City. Under the leadership of incoming board president, Rich Veres, The Bay Village Foundation looks forward to another great year in 2018, as we dedicate ourselves to our mission of supporting projects and programs that foster Bay Village’s historical, cultural, social, and educational heritage. We encourage the citizens and businesses of Bay Village to help us perpetuate and improve the traditions that make Bay Village such a special place. Alan Paulus, President

MISSION STATEMENT
The Bay Village Foundation is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) corporation dedicated to preserving the quality of life in Bay Village, Ohio, using the talents and resources of the private citizens and non-government funding. The Bay Village Foundation exists to provide support for projects and programs fostering Bay Village’s historical, cultural, social, and educational heritage. Through The Bay Village Foundation, its citizens and businesses are encouraged to perpetuate the traditions that make Bay Village a special place to live and work.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does The Bay Village Foundation support?
The Bay Village Foundation exists to provide support for projects and programs fostering Bay Village's historical, cultural, and educational heritage. Present and past citizens and businesses are encouraged to perpetuate the traditions that make Bay Village a special place to live and work by supporting the Foundation. Can I specify where my donation is used?
Yes. For example, donors may specify that their donation be used for a specific community project. And, although we encourage unrestricted donations, if the gift is $10,000 or more, you may request that the principal be maintained and you may designate corresponding income from that principal to a specific project consistent with the purpose of The Bay Village Foundation. How is the money distributed?
Grant applications are available in December, and the public is notified of submission requirements and deadlines. Proposals may be submitted by mail or on-line. The Grants Committee meets and selects the grant recipients in early spring. Trustees are presented with the Committee’s recommendations and a vote is taken. Grants are announced and distributed at the Memorial Day Program. Money designated for a specific purpose is directed to that project and unrestricted gifts are used for projects voted on by the trustees. The Foundation also presents scholarships to selected Bay High seniors. Applications are available in December. The Scholarship Committee meets and selects the recipients in the early spring. Scholarships are announced at the Memorial Day Program.
The Bay Village Foundation 2017 Annual Report Page 15
Can I make contributions other than money?
Yes. The Bay Village Foundation can accept gifts of life insurance policies, life income trusts, gift annuities, and securities. The Bay Village Foundation Legacy Society celebrates donors who have remembered the Bay Village Foundation in their financial and estate plans. Because bequests are a way to ensure that your generosity will live on, they are very important to the future of the Foundation and to Bay Village. Simple to create as part of establishing your will or living trust, a bequest can also be added as a codicil to an existing will or as an amendment to a living trust. Although creating the bequest is easy, deciding which portion of your estate to donate may best be determined in a discussion with your advisor(s). For more information about the Legacy Society, visit our web site or contact the Foundation. What do I do to make a contribution?
If you would like someone to call you regarding The Bay Village Foundation, please contact Foundation’s Secretary at (440) 899-3490. He/she will arrange to have a trustee call you to answer your questions. Tax deductible donations may be made by mail to P.O. Box 40122, Bay Village OH 44140, on-line via the Cleveland Foundation or using PayPal via the foundation website, www.thebayvillagefoundation.com. Who are the Trustees?
The trustees listed herein are from Bay Village. Trustees are members of various civic and community groups, neighbors and friends, who have a deep interest in Bay Village. The names of all trustees are included in this report. All trustees are volunteers.
