Nightmare: The Framing of Luke and the Death of Elise

INT. Wes House- 7 P.M.

Wes walks into his house and goes into his room. We hear something behindWes and Wes turns around, and there standing before him is FREDDY. (We cant

see his face at all, but we know it is him). Wes walks toward Freddy.

Wes- So youre the one who is killing everyone. The one who is copying myFreddy Krueger character?

Freddy steps toward Wes and smiles. Wes turns around, reaches into his drawerand pulls out a gun. Wes turns back around and lifts up the gun.

Wes- Stay back or I will shoot you.

Freddy laughs and smiles at Wes.

Freddy- You wont shoot me. You wont kill yourself.

Wes- Myself? I created you. And I will kill you. Try me.

Wes fires his gun at Freddy, this surprises Freddy making him turn and run away.Freddy runs to the door and leaves.

EXT. Outside Wes House

Wes runs after Freddy outside. Wes looks around and notices that he is outsidewith a gun, so he quickly holsters it and continues to run after Freddy. Freddystarts running toward Lukes house.

EXT. Outside Lukes House

Freddy goes inside Lukes house and locks the door. Wes runs to the door and itis locked.

Wes- Shit!

Wes runs to a window and aims his gun at it and fires. The window shatters andWes jumps in. Wes sees Freddy run upstairs and runs after him. Freddy goes intothe bedroom and Wes follows. Wes crashes into the room, slams the door shutand lifts ups his gun. GUNSHOT!

INSTANT FADE OUT

We see a 1990 Fifth Avenue drive up to Lukes house. Elise gets out of the carand walks inside the house.

Elise- Luke! Luke!

Elise is looking around.

Elise- Luke!

Elise walks up stairs.

Elise- Luke!

Elise walks past the bedroom and into the nursery. We see baby glen in his crib.Elise bends down and looks at the baby.

Elise (Friendly Childish Voice )- Hello there! Have you seen your daddy? Have

you seen your daddy? Have you? (Back in her normal voice) Guess not. Where ishe?

We see the bedroom door creak open. We pan down and see a fisted hand. Thenthe hand un-fists and we see five razor sharp silver blades. (BIG FAT ASSDRAMATIC MUSIC ENDING WITH A BIG BOOM!)

INSTANT FADE OUT

We see a Red Dodge Challenger drive up to Lukes house. Cherry gets out of thecar and walks toward a burning car.

Cherry- Oh God!

Cherry runs up to the fire and looks around. She then goes up the house andenters. We hear Glen crying. Cherry goes to the nursery and see Glen.

Cherry- Oh God, where are your parents?

Wes- CHERRY!

Cherry- Oh God! Wes!

Cherry turns around and sees Wes crawling towards her, holding his bleedingstomach.

Cherry- Oh God Wes! What happened?!

Wes- Luke.

We see Luke asleep on the bed, wearing a bloody bladed glove.

Cherry- Shit!

Cherry goes for Wes gun and points it at Lukes head.

Wes- Cherry no! Dont! There will be no way to prove he did the murders.Awww. Call the police and get help!

Cherry turns back to Wes and nods.

Cherry- Ok.

Cherry runs downstairs and gets to the phone and dials 911.

Cherry- Hello. I need an ambulance here now damn i-

We see the door crash open and Jesse Thompson stumbles in.

Jesse- What the hell is going on here?!

Cherry turns around.

Cherry- Who the hell are you?Jesse- Jesse Thompson. Im a cop.

Cherry- Yeah I can tell. Nice uniform.

Jesse- You know you have a dead body here?

Cherry- Hes not dead.

Jesse- Wait what?

Cherry- Hes not dead.

Jesse- He? What he? There is an impaled woman outside.

Cherry- WHAT! Oh God! ELISE!

Cherry gets up and runs outside. We see Elises dead body on the ground acouple of feet from the burning car. Elises neck is bent to the side and a piece ofthe car is impaled between her breasts.

Cherry (Crying )- Oh God. How could I have missed this? Elise.

Cherry touches Elises face.

Cherry- Elise.

Jesse gets out his radio.

Jesse- This is Jesse Thompson. We have a homicide and a casualty. A CaucasianWoman about 21 and-

Jesse turns to Cherry.

Jesse- The injured man?

Cherry- Caucasian Male, age 24.

Jesse goes back to the radio.

Jesse- A Caucasian Male, age 24. Get an ambulance here stat!

Jesse gets off his radio and turns to Cherry.

Jesse- Ill be back. Im going to go check up on your friend.

Jesse turns to the house, but Cherry grabs on to Jesse.

Cherry- No wait!

Jesse turns around.

Jesse- What?

Cherry- The killer is inside the house.

Jesse forces Cherrys hold off him and he pulls out his gun and runs inside thehouse. Jesse runs up the stairs and we see Wes on the floor.

Jesse- Helps coming soon.

Jesse goes to the bed and sees Luke, still asleep. Jesse pokes Luke on theforehead.

Jesse- Wake up sunshine.

Luke opens his eyes and sees Jesse.

Luke- Who are-

Jesse punches Luke in the face. Jesse flips Luke over and pulls out his handcuffs.

Luke- What the hell are you doing?

Jesse- You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will beused against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney presentduring questioning. If you cannot afford

Luke- What the hell! I didnt do anything!

Jesse- An attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand theserights?

Luke- I didnt do fucking anything!

Jesse- SHUT UP!

Jesse picks up Luke and start to take him outside.

We see the medics run up stairs and get Wes.

Luke- I DIDNT DO ANYTHING! LET GO OF ME!

Jesse takes Luke outside and puts him in the police car. At that moment, Lukelooks down and sees Elises dead body.

Luke- NO ELISE! NO! GOD NO! ELISE! NO! I DIDNT KILL HER!

Jesse puts Luke inside the car. Luke is scratching at the window of the police car.

Luke- ELISE! NO! I DIDNT! I DIDNT!

Luke bangs his fist on the window.

Luke- NO! NO! NO! GOD NO!

Jesse turns to Cherry as Wes is being carted out by the medics.

Jesse- Hes going to be alright Miss. Dont worry.

Jesse touches Cherrys face.

Jesse- Dont worry.Jesse turns around and gets into the police car. The medics get Wes into theambulance. Cherry turns to Jesses police car.

Cherry- Wait!

Cherry goes back inside the house and gets baby Glen and she runs backoutside.

Cherry- Im going with you!

The medics get Elise in a body bag and put her inside the ambulance. Cherrygets inside Jesses police car and the police car takes off.

INT. Jesses Police Car

Jesse turns to Cherry.

Jesse- Before we go to the hospital, were going to go to the station. You need tobe questioned.

Cherry- I didnt do it. Luke did-

We hear Luke in the back.

Luke- No I didnt!

Jesse and Cherry ignore Luke.

Jesse- I know. Its standard protocol. We have to do it.

Cherry- But Wes-?

Jesse- We have to.

Cherry looks at Jesse angrily.

Cherry- Fine.

Jesse looks at Cherry and smiles.

Jesse- You know, you are very pretty when you are angry.

Cherry- Im not angry.

Jesse- Well, whatever you are, its nice.

Cherry- Shut up and drive.

Jesse smiles.

Jesse- Yes maam.

INT. Hospital

Medic 1- Move! Make way! Make way!Medic 1 and Medic 2 have Wes on a stretcher.

We see a Doctor walk run up to the two men.

Dr. Chandler- The damage?

Medic 2- Five knife wounds in his stomach.

Dr. Chandler scratches his head.

Dr. Chandler- Oh God. Get him into surgery stat! Im going to go scrub in.

Medic 1- Yes sir.

Dr. Chandler runs off.

The Medics wheel Wes into surgery.

Wes- Cherry! Cherry!

INT. Police Station

We pan down and we see Jesse and Cherry sitting in a dark room.

Jesse- Ok. I am going to be recording your questioning.

Jesse pushes a button on the recorder.

Jesse- So lets start from the beginning. What happened first?

Cherry- Ok. It was around 6:30 P.M. I had just finished up work in school. I hadproblems in my science class, so I stayed for help.

Jesse- And you have an alibi for this?

Cherry- Yes. His name is Dr. Eli Brown.

Jesse- Do you have his number?

Cherry- Yes.

Jesse- What is it?

Cherry- Its in my purse.

Jesse- Ok. Ill be back.

Jesse exits the room. Cherry looks around the dark questioning room. Jessecomes back inside the room.

Jesse- Here.

Jesse hands Cherry her purse. Cherry pulls out her address book.

Cherry- Its 210-593-8827.

Jesse- Ok. Thank you. What happened next?

Cherry- I then went to go see Elise. When I got to the house, I noticed that hercar was destroyed and it was on fire.

Jesse- Mmm hmmm. But you didnt notice her body at all?

Cherry- No I didnt. Not until you pointed out that there was a body out thereand that it was Elises.

Jesse- Ok. Next?

Cherry- I then entered the house looking for Elise. Or Luke. Whoever was thereat the time.

Jesse nods.

Cherry- And then. I heard the baby Glen crying. So I went to see what waswrong. And then I heard Wes yell out my name. I turned around and I saw himthere on the ground bleeding. I went over there to help him and that is when Isaw Luke on the bed wearing a bloody five bladed fingered glove. And then Iwent downstairs to call the police.

Jesse- You never thought aboutkilling Luke? The thought never passed yourhead?

Cherry- What? If I did he would-

Jesse- Cherry. Can I call you Cherry? You didnt think about it? Because thatcouldve affected your judgment?

Cherry- Couldve? But didnt. Im not a murder Jesse Thompson.

Jesse- I know. Its easy. You couldnt bring yourself to kill him, but you instantlythought that Luke killed, well, stabbed Wes and killed Elise. But thats too easy.It would give you an instant satisfaction that he did in fact injure your boyfriend

and kill his own wife. Its just, why would he kill his wife? Did you see the surprisein him when he saw that she was impaled in the middle of the street? This couldpossibly be a double blind. It doesnt prove that Luke is the killer.

Cherry- Luke was wearing the glove.

Jesse- Yeah, but think Cherry! What is his motive for killing Elise? His own wife?Who can be that heartless? And his best friend? Wes?

Cherry- An insane person?

Jesse- Do you really think that? Look here, here is what could have happened.Someone could have stabbed Wes. And then knocked out Luke, since Luke isknocked out, the real killer couldve put the glove on Lukes hand framing him.

Cherry- Couldve. But Wes said that Luke stabbed him.

Jesse- Yeah. But Wes was also stabbed, he couldve been delusional. Hewouldnt know for sure if it was Luke. For all we know he couldve seen fuckingBarney and thought it was Luke.

Cherry smiles and nods her head.

Cherry- Ok, lets say youre right. But who then? Who killed Elise and hurt Wes?

Jesse- I dont know. But Im afraid that Luke is probably going to go down for it.The only way he could possibly get away with it, well, with the least amount ofimplications, is probably by pleading guilty under temporary insanity.

Cherry- I guess youre right.

Jesse- Ok. What happened after you called the police?

Cherry- Well, I didnt finish talking, thats when you came in.

Jesse bites his lip.

Jesse- Well, ok. We are done here. Thank you for your time.

Jesse turns off the recorder.

Cherry- Jesse.

Jesse- Yes?

Cherry- Can you take me to the hospital? I want to see Wes.

Jesse smiles.

Jesse- Ok. Ill take you in a little bit. Im just going to question Luke first.

Cherry nods.

Cherry- Ok.

Cherry and Jesse leave the room.

We see Luke handcuffed, sitting on a bench.

Jesse- Luke.

Luke looks up at Jesse.

Jesse- Its time.

Jesse and Luke enter the questioning room. Jesse uncuffs Luke and Luke sitsdown. Jesse takes his chair behind a desk.

Jesse- Ok, I am going to read to you your rights. You have the right to remainsilent, anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law. Youhave the right to talk to a lawyer. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be

provided for you if you so desire. If you chose to talk to the police, you have theright to end the questioning at anytime you like. Do you understand theserights?

Luke- Yes.

Jesse- With these rights in minds, do you wish to talk to us now?

Luke- You mean confess?

Jesse- What?

Luke- You want a confession?

Jesse- No. I want-

Luke- Good, because you are not getting one. I did not kill Elise or hurt Wes.

Jesse- Im not saying you did.

Luke- But you think I did. Thats just as good as saying it in my book.

Jesse- But we are not going by your book now? Are we? Now Luke I am going toquestion you now.

Luke- Who cares? Im still going down for this.

Jesse slams his hand on the desk and stands up.

Jesse- DAMN IT! CANT YOU GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL THAT BOTHWAYS YOU ARE GOING TO BE QUESIONED! YOU CAN BE INNOCENT!

Luke- Innocent? What? You dont think I-

Jesse- No.

Jesse runs his hand through his hair and calms down. Jesse sits back down.

Jesse- No, I dont think you did. And if you did-

Luke- Which I didnt.

Jesse- You werent aware of it. But you are right. If I question you or not, you aremost likely going to go down for this.

Luke- Damn it. No I cant.

Luke cups his head in hands.

Luke- I cant. I cant. I cant. I have a son. I cant go down for something I didntdo.

Jesse- Ok then. I am going to have to question you. Maybe there is some pointin your story that proves youre innocent. I am going to record your questioning.Do you want your lawyer?

Luke shakes his head.

Luke- No.

Jesse- Im going to start recording you now.

Jesse pushes the button on the recorder.

Jesse- So, Mr. Lantz, you have a family?

Luke- What?

Jesse- Do you have a family?

Luke- Yeah. You saw it. My wife dead in the middle of the street and my soncrying his eyes out in a crib.

Jesse- So, I take it as a yes. Do you love your family?

Luke- Of course.

Luke glares at Jesse.

Jesse- Calm down.

Luke- I know what you are doing Jesse.

Jesse- What?

Luke- Asking me about my family. I would never hurt my family.

Jesse smiles.

Jesse- Well thats good to know. Do you want something to drink? Water? Soda?Coffee?


Luke- Ill have a coffee.

Jesse- Sugar? Cream? Half and half?

Luke- Ill just take the sugar.

Jesse- Ok. Ill be back.

Jesse leaves the room. Luke continues to stay in his seat. Luke fumbles aroundwith his thumbs.

Jesse walks back into the room with Lukes coffee and some for himself.

Jesse- Careful. Its hot.

Jesse places the cups on the desk in front of Luke.

Luke- The sugar?Jesse- Oh right! Sorry.

Jesse pulls out two sugar packets and puts them in front of Luke.

Jesse- So, do you play football?

Luke- Football?

Jesse- Football.

Luke- Yeah. I like to watch it.

Luke drinks a little bit of his coffee.

Jesse- What is your favorite team?

Luke- Dallas Cowboys. They havent been doing so well lately though.

Jesse- Yeah. Not really. They were in their game in the 70s.

Luke- Yeah. Miss those days.

Jesse- Same here. But you cant go back to your past. You have to face whatyou have done now. Nothing from the past can save you. Only the now. Sowhats your story? Start from the beginning.

Luke raises his eyebrows because of how fast Jesse had converted to the crimeand having it be mixed with the Dallas Cowboys.

Luke- Well, I had Glen for the day, my son, while Elise went to school. Imalready done with school and I am a teacher at a middle school.

Jesse- Mmm hmmm. Keep going.

Luke- Well, I had just gotten home and I put Glen in the crib. I heard a noisefrom my bedroom, so I went to go check it out and thats all I remember.

Jesse- Thats it? Nothing else? Nothing about how you got on the bed with that

bloody bladed glove on your hand?

Luke- No.

Jesse- Ok.

Jesse rubs his four oclock shadow.

Jesse- Ok thank you.

Jesse turns off the recorder. Luke gets up.

Jesse- Wait.

Jesse sighs and points to a picture on the wall.

Jesse- You see that picture on the wall?Luke turns around.

Luke- The statue of Liberty?

Jesse- Yeah. That one. Notice anything about it?

Luke stares at the picture.

Luke- Its a woman?

Jesse- Besides that. Whats on her head?

Luke- A crown?

Jesse- And

Luke- I dont know.

Jesse-She has a blind fold on. Meaning that Justice. True Justice, is blind. Ipersonally think you are innocent. It is just blind who the killer is.

Luke- What?

Jesse- Yeah. I sincerely think you are innocent. I think there is more to this storythan there seems. But it is all theory and nothing tangible to use in court. You

probably will go down for this. The evidence is against you. The glove in yourhand pretty much seals the deal.

Luke- Yeah, it does. How long am I looking at?

Jesse sighs again.

Jesse- Death sentence.

Luke- What? Death Sentence?!

Jesse- Yeah. You go down for this. You are going down for pretty much all theFreddy killings. Thats-

Jesse starts counting on his fingers.

Jesse- Youre going down for six deaths.

Luke leans forward and gives a big sigh.

Luke- Oh shit. Im fucked. Im fucked. Im fucked.

Jesse- There is though, a slight loophole.

Luke gets up.

Luke- And this loophole is?

Jesse- Youre going to plead guilty under temporary insanity.

Luke- Awe shit. What? I cant! I have a son without a mother! Ill lose custody.Jesse- Its the safest route we can go without you losing your life. I can try andpossibly get Cherry to look after your son. She seems like a nice young woman.

Luke nods.

Luke- Thats the way Elise would want it.

Jesse- Yeah. Cherrys a good person.

Jesse looks out the window and sees Cherry outside. Jesse smiles.

Jesse- Shame.

Luke- What? Shame about what?

Jesse blinks.

Jesse- Oh, uh nothing. So, we are going to hold you in jail. Ill have Cherry holdon to your son. And, when we find the real killer you will be with your son again.

Luke nods.

Jesse- Ok. Lets go.

Jesse and Luke get up and Jesse cuffs Luke.

Jesse and Luke exit the questioning room and Jesse leads him to a cell. Luke sitsdown in the cell. Jesse turns to Luke.

Jesse- Hey Luke.


Luke- Yeah.

Jesse- When I was younger I was told, Some days you get the bear, some daysthe bear gets you. The bear has you right now. But the bear will let go when itsees new prey. That is when you get the bear. And that is when you kill the bear.

Never, ever, let the bear kill you. No matter how bleak it gets. Just keep in mindthat you can defeat the bear.

Luke nods at Jesse. Jesse smiles and walks away.
