THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE ____________________

PIETÁ A PRAYER FOR HOLY WEEK

By Cliff Garvey

Mother of Sorrows, we walk with you on the way of pain;

we watch with you as your Son is hung upon the Cross;

we weep with you as He suffers unto death.

Because your Son is our Friend, he bleeds.

Because He is our Brother, he endures torture.

Because He is our Lord, he dies for us.

But before He surrenders himself,

before He empties himself,

before He commends himself

into the loving arms of the Father,

Jesus forgives.

He forgives the ones who hang him.

He forgives the thief who hangs beside him.

Beyond all borders, He forgives us sinners.

Beyond all measure, He forgives the world.

Mother of Sorrows,

hold our Crucified Lord in your gentle embrace.

Dry the tears of a world that mourns with you.

And by your prayers, remind us always:

His anguish ends all anguish.

His pain overcomes all pain.

His death defeats all death.

Beneath the shadow of the Cross,

we watch, we weep, we wish it all away.

But we believe in our hearts:

Faith abides.

Mercy remains.

Love lasts and lives on.

For ever and ever. Amen.

Saint Ann & Saint Joachim, pray for us!

Saint Anthony & Saint Francis, pray for us!

Saint Peter & Saint Paul, pray for us!

Our Lady of Good Voyage, pray for us!

Christ Jesus,

though he was in the form of God,

did not regard equality with God

something to be grasped.

Rather, he emptied himself,

taking the form of a slave,

coming in human likeness;

and found human in appearance,

he humbled himself,

becoming obedient to the point of death,

even death on a cross.

Because of this,

God greatly exalted him

and bestowed on him the name

which is above every name,

that at the name of Jesus

every knee should bend,

of those in heaven

and on earth

and under the earth,

and every tongue confess that

Jesus Christ is Lord

to the glory of God the Father!

Philippians 2:6-8

OUR WEEKLY OFFERINGS _____________________

ASSISI PROJECT LENT RAFFLE PIETÁ HAND PAINTED ICON

Tickets Available Through Easter Sunday!

Now through Easter Sunday, the Assisi Project is spon-soring a Lent Raffle for the beautiful hand painted icon of the “Pietá” which beautifully depicts Our Sorrowful Mother embracing the Crucified Christ. Throughout the Christian world, icons are venerated as windows into heaven and are known to be powerful instruments of divine grace and miracles. This particular icon was hand-crafted in Greece using traditional tempera paint and gold leaf, and is covered with a protective varnish. It was blessed on the relics of Saint Spyridon the Wonderwork-er, a third century saint whose incorrupt relics are be-lieved to be the source of many miracles.

All proceeds from the Assisi Project’s Lent Raffle will be donated to Our Lady’s Grand Annual Collection. Our goal is to raise $1,000. So far, we have raised just over $500. A donation of $1.00 per ticket is requested. Tickets can be purchased after various daily and weekend Mass-es in Our Lady’s Church; at our parish offices; and by contacting Cliff Garvey at [email protected] or 978-281-4820. The icon is on display in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and can also be seen on our website: ccgronline.com/lent. The winner of the Assisi Project’s Lent Raffle will be drawn on Easter Sunday, April 16th. Thank you for your generous support!
