INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

From Our Director of Children’s Ministries, Beth Ann Murray...

Dear Mom,

I love you and you love me.

I say a prayer when I’m on my knees.

I tell God thanks for giving me you.

You’re the best mom, yes it’s true.

You, take care of me and love me so much.

You’re so kind and have a gentle touch.

When I need you you’re always there.

Like Jesus, you tell us you always care.

Thanks for being the best mom ever!

I’ll remember your love always and forever!

When I talk to God and close my eyes,

I ask Him to give you a big surprise.

I’m glad God picked you to be my mother.

You show me what it means to “Love each other”.

On this special day, I give thanks to God above,

For giving me you, and your special Love Forever.

This poem comes from all the hearts of children! They mean every word of it. We

pray you know the love of God, more and more each day, and that you know how

much He values you in every little way. Today we want to let our moms know

how much we love and value them and tell them in our own special way how much

we think about them every single day. May God’s blessings shower each Mother

today for you have been more than a blessing, and we love you very much—you

are a Mother heaven sent.

Happy Mother’s Day!

SENIOR MOMENTS

Perhaps you received this via email from a friend, just as I did. I’m certainly not old enough for any of this to happen to me!

- Chuck Boatman

“$5.37!” That’s what the kid behind the counter at Taco Bell said to me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and something that used to be a Jolly Rancher.

Having already handed the kid a five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab some change when the kid with the Elmo hairdo said the hardest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He said, “It’s OK. I’ll just give you the senior citi-zen discount.”

I turned to see who he was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of me.

“Only $4.68,” he said cheerfully.

I stood there stupefied. Senior citizen?

I took my burrito and walked out to the truck won-dering what was wrong with Elmo. Was he blind? As I sat in the truck my blood began TO BOIL. Old? Me? I’ll show him, I thought. I opened the door and headed back inside.

I strode to the counter, and there he was waiting with a smile. Before I could say a word, he held up something and jingled it in front of me, like I could be that easily distracted! What am I now? A toddler?

“Dude! Can’t get too far without your car keys, eh?” I stared with utter disdain at the keys. I began to rationalize silently: “Leaving keys behind hardly makes a man elderly! It could happen to anyone!”

I turned and headed back to the truck. I slipped the key into the ignition, but it wouldn’t turn. “What now?”

That’s when I noticed the purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror. I had no purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror. Then, a few other objects came into focus: The car seat in the back seat. Happy Meal toys spread all over the floorboard. A

partially eaten donut on the dashboard.

Faster than you can say “Ginkgo Biloba,” I flew out of the alien vehicle. Moments later I was speeding out of the park-ing lot, relieved to finally be leaving this nightmarish stop in my life. That is when I felt I, deep in the pit of my stomach: hunger! My stomach growled and churned, and I reached to grab my burrito, only it was nowhere to be found.

I swung the truck around, gathered my courage, and strode back into the restaurant one final time. There Elmo stood, draped in youth and black nail polish. All I could think was,” What is the world coming to?” All I could say was, “Did I leave my food and drink in here?”

Elmo had no clue. I walked back out to the truck, and suddenly a young lad came up and tugged on my jeans to get my attention. He was holding up a drink and a bag. His mother explained, “I think you left this in my truck by mis-take.”

I took the food and drink from the little boy and sheep-ishly apologized. She offered these kind words: “It’s OK. My grandfather does stuff like this all the time.”

All of this is to explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40 mph zone. Yes, I was racing some punk kid in a Toyota Prius. And “No,” I told the officer, “I’m not too old to be driving this fast.”

As I walked in the front door, my wife met me halfway down the hall. I handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding ticket. I promptly sat in my rocking chair and cov-ered up my legs with a blanket. The good news was that I had successfully found my way home.”

If you join us you will have an amazing time. We already have an absolutely fantastic team and you can be part of it. I guarantee you’ll be inspired, encour-aged, renewed, and rejuvenated. In other words, you’ll love it.

But—and here’s the weird thing—I hope it’s not the best day of your week. Instead, I pray that Children’s Ministries will be the springboard to the best days of your week.

We want our ministry to renew your passion about Jesus all year long. We aim to give you deeper learning that makes you even better at what you do best (namely, sharing Jesus’ love with kids). And we’ll spark real conversations and friendships that can make every day better that the last.

It’s easy to tell you all about the remarkable things that’ll happen to you in our Children’s Ministry this year. We’ve got big surprises, fresher ideas and newer ways to invigorate you and your ministry. I can barely contain my excitement and anticipation!

I really want you to know is that Children’s Ministry is about so much more than one day a week of spiritual exhilaration. It’s about YOU and your faithful, in-the-trenches, day-in-and-day-out ministry. It’s about equipping and inspiring you to make Jesus real to kids.

I hope and pray that you’ll join us! I want to get to know you better. I want to hear your thoughts and dreams. I want to stand with you in prayer and worship as we make children’s ministry better than ever.

We promise when you join with us, your learning will go deeper. You will make real connections with our church families. And most important your passion for Jesus will be renewed. God has called you to a relationship with Him and He might be calling you to work with children.

We are losing a few Sunday school teachers this summer and if God has put it on your heart to help in our Ministry, then don’t wait another minute. Call Beth Ann at 760-728-5804.

Children’s Ministries Happenings!

Awana - This wonderful program is coming to a close for the summer. Our last club meeting will be May 9th. The kids have worked very hard memorizing their scripture and we will have a record number of special awards at the end of this year. Our Annual Awana Awards Ceremony will be May 16th, at 6:30 in the Sanctuary. This is a much antici-pated event for out families. About 80% of our kids will earn an award with four kids earning their Timothy Awards (very hard to do).

Los Amigos - We have a busy month Coming up! We will have a field trip to Live Oak Park on May 7th. The kids are having their STAR testing at school, so they will not have any homework. Los Amigos dinner is on May 14th this year. Alex again will be our chef, serving about 80 peo-ple. The tutors love having a chance to spend some time getting to know our families, and it gives the Los Amigos families an opportunity to get to know us, as well. We have no Los Amigos on May 21st due to La Paloma’s Open House. In lieu of teaching the kids, the tutors will be given a luncheon and debriefing of their year. The grand finale is our pool party at the home of Lila Sandshulte on May 28th.

Preschool has opened their Fall Registration to the commu-nity now. Please tell all your neighbors, family and friends about our wonderful school. 760-728-1032.

VBS —Our Theme—POLAR EXPEDITION! Staying Cool with Jesus!!!!!!! June 24th -29th, 8:30am to 12pm. We

need a lot of helpers so sign up at the Children’s Ministry Table! We anticipate tons of kids this year.

Mother’s Day Sunday is also Preschool Sunday. So invite all of your family to hear our precious Cherub Choir honor their Moms.

Don’t forget to visit El Jardin Restaurant to help the preschool with their Fund-Raiser

this month and help our church family (The Porters). Thank you for support in April at The Garden Center. It was fun seeing all of our church family having lunch at the best restaurants in town. (Coupon on page 4)

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her...Proverbs 31:28

Many people have been richly blessed by what they have learned at their mother’s knee. Consider John and Charles Wesley. Their names would probably never have lit the pages of history if it hadn’t been for their godly mother who taught them that the law of love and Christian Witness was to be their daily guide.

Susannah Wesley spent one hour each day praying for her 17 children. In addition, she took each child aside for a full hour every week to discuss spiritual matters with him or her. No wonder John and Charles were used of God to bring blessings around the world.

Here are a few rules she followed in training her children: Subdue self-will in a child and work together with God. Teach him to pray as soon as he can speak. Give him nothing he cries for and only what is good for him if he asks for it politely. To pre-vent lying, punish no fault that is freely confessed, but never allow a rebellious sinful act to go unchecked. Commend and reward good behavior. Strictly observe all promises you have made to your child.

Mission / Ministry Opportunities & Reports

From Barbosa Olivera serving in Southern Africa.

WHEN THE “D” DAY ARRIVES

It seems that it doesn’t matter how well you prepare for ministry outputs, when the time of delivery comes about, it goes faster than a flash. One doesn’t have time to even notice the details, the nuances, what is really happening around the place. One prepares for months … but the moment goes faster than a windfall.

In a preceding letter, I explained the amount of oppor-tunities we have at hand in this gorgeous continent of Africa. Right now we have two teams operational in Southern Africa. Lord-willing, next year we should have great news for you in this regard. If things go well and as planned, we will continue to have greater news in the years to come as the Lord of the Harvest provides the laborers that many are praying for.

Opportunities are just one part of His plan. We also have like-minded people who are willing to step up to the plate and do their part so many nations will be shaken by the gospel. As we visit and encourage leaders around certain countries of the continent, we continue to hear the things that the Lord of the Harvest is doing in their midst, and the kind results that willingness is bringing to the kingdom.

As we work with our teams and serve networks like the Movement for Africa National Initiatives, we respond to the opportunities with our people and like-minded organizations. In doing that, we help leaders of each country with leaders of other countries, in and outside the continent. In order to speed up this process, we are recruiting people who are willing to go to trenches to help us in the battle; people who are willing to go to the vineyard of the Master and help us ripen the fruit until it’s ready to be harvested.

This whole process demands a lot of time to connect with people in all sorts of ways; people who are willing to watch out for other laborers and put us in touch with them; resources that will help us use all the possible means to reach out to those who are seriously considering His Harvest in Africa; finally, it demands a lot of prayer for wisdom, tenacity and endurance in this race for the transformation of our continent.

As you pray, He answers; as we seek, He will make himself available to be found; as we knock, He will open doors that only He can open, and people (yes! People!) will come to the knowledge of Him, transforming neighborhoods and towns into kingdom-abiding places! That’s why your participation and journeying with us is so important! Together we can go further!

We will see His glory in this continent as the waters cover the sea – you will see it too! The “D” day will arrive … and it will last an eternity!

With thankful hearts, Barbosa & Family

April, 2013 Dear Mission Partner, I knew the cement floor was cold. I could feel it under my feet. As was the custom in India, I had taken my shoes off before entering the home I was in. It was hot outside and the cool floor felt good to me. But, when I saw a middle aged woman lying on the cold, hard cement floor, with nothing but a thin cloth under her, I could just imagine how terribly uncomfort-able that must have been. Inside the small room where she lay, I could see my brother Paul, Pastor Kishore and Pastor B. Paul on their knees. In the dark, with hands stretched toward heaven, they were asking God for healing and a bless-ing on this Hindu home. Next door lived Priscilla, the only Christian in her area. Priscilla wanted us to pray for her neighbor, so we did.

Priscilla lives on one of the Anda-man and Nicobar Islands, east of India in the Bay of Bengal. Over 90 percent of the people living in the Andaman Islands are Hindu. They are very resistant to hearing the gospel by traditional means. However, these people are open to hearing what God has to say to them through a Talking Bible. This openness to the Word has pro-vided Talking Bibles with a unique and urgent opportunity to present the message of salvation to people who are unreached, who have never heard about Jesus.

Priscilla is a believer – the only Christian in a community of just over 10,000 people consisting of mainly Telegu speaking Hindu fishermen and their families. Priscilla has never learned to read. She became a believer over ten years ago when Pastor B. Paul witnessed to her. No one else in her community has accepted Christ . . . yet. They are a resistant group as they are nearly all Hindu and steeped in tradition and superstition. Priscilla never had a Bible that she could use to learn from. She had a Bible, a nice printed one, but she couldn’t read. She showed it to me. She told me how much she cher-ished it and that she carried it to church every Sunday when she trav-eled to worship with a group of believ-ers on another part of the island. We gave Priscilla a Talking Bible in her own language. You should have seen the joy in her eyes and the smile on her face when she realized what it was. For the first time in her life she has a Bible she can use and understand. She was so happy! Not only can she understand, but now she can share the Good News about Jesus, right from the Bible, with her father and her sick neighbor who have yet to believe. An amazing transformation took place inside of Priscilla when she heard God speaking directly to her, in her lan-guage. She understood that Jesus is real and that He died for all of her sins, but she had never heard the whole story because she had never actually read her Bible.

She had to wait 10 long years to get a Bible that speaks to her.

The Bible tells us that when the seed of God’s Word is sown, it will sprout. Paul and I met twenty pastors from the various islands on our recent trip. Each one was given a Telegu Talking Bible. These pastors minister in communi-ties like Priscilla’s. Our purpose is to place as many Talking Bibles as possible with seekers and believers like Priscilla who want to listen to God’s Word and share it with others in their family and circle of friends. This is done in cooperation with and through the assistance of local pastors like Pastor Kishore and the 20 pastors Paul and I met.

Thank you for your faith prayers and financial support for the minis-try of Talking Bibles. In Christ Jesus,

Mark S. Hoekstra President Talking Bibles International

Women may also experience

these non-traditional symptoms:

*Unusual fatigue

*Sleep disturbances

*Anxiety

A heart attack may cause some or

women…

*Pain, pressure, fullness, dis-

comfort or squeezing in the cen-

“I believe my story has helped raise

awareness that a heart-attack can

happen to anyone. I can’t count the

number of people who have said, ‘if

this could happen to you, it could hap-

pen to me, too.’ By sharing my experi-

ence, I hope to drive home the impor-

tance of preventive heart health,

knowing heart attack signs, and get-

ting help, quickly, when any of these

symptoms arise.” - unknown

What does CROP stand for?

When CROP began in 1947, CROP

was an acronym for the Christian

Rural Overseas Program. Its

primary mission was to help Mid-

west farm families share their

grain with hungry neighbors in post

-World War II Europe and

Asia. Today, CROP means

Churches Responding to Over-

come Poverty, with Hunger walks

providing opportunity for interfaith

hunger education and fundraising.

Why do we walk? Hungry people

in developing countries typically

walk up to six miles a day to get

food, water and fuel, and to take

their goods to market.

By participating in our three-mile

walk, we symbolically join in soli-

darity with their struggle for exis-

tence. We walk because we want to

join others in ending their hunger.

Throughout the month of May,

our SonRise Christian Fellowship

Church walkers will be looking for

people to sponsor them in this

year’s walk. As the Lord leads,

there are a couple of ways that you

may sponsor the

walkers. First, you

may sponsor one or

more walkers with a

cash or check dona-

tion. You would do this by signing

a walker’s sponsor form (Donation

Envelope) and then giving that

walker your cash donation or check

made payable to “CWS/CROP.” If

you prefer, you may support all our

walkers by giving your donation

through a designated account of

the church. In this case you would

make your check payable to Son-

Rise Christian Fellowship with a

memo of “CROP Walk 2013.”

75% of the money our community

raises goes toward world hunger

relief. The remaining 25% is given

to support the work of the Fall-

brook Food Pantry.

We began signing up walkers on

April 28th. and will continue to do

so until May 26th. Those interested

in being a walker are invited to

stop by the CROP Walk table on

Sunday mornings to obtain a Dona-

tion Envelope. This envelope is

used to record and store all sponsor

donations. All

walkers are be-

ing asked to re-

turn their Dona-

tion Envelopes

(with sponsor

donations enclosed) to our CROP

Walk coordinator, Paul Patterson,

by May 26th. If you have any

questions about this year’s CROP

Walk, please contact Paul at fall-

him at 760.659.8005.

Some warm & witty thoughts of Mothers-n-May from writers, both— of old & now...Enjoy!

Hee that is in a towne in May loseth his spring. (Olde English Poem)~George Herbert

April is a promise that May is bound to keep. ~Hal Borland

No language can express the power, and beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a mother's love. It shrinks not

where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints, and over wastes of worldly fortunes sends the

radiance of its quenchless fidelity like a star. ~Edwin Hubbell Chapin

Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love.

~Mildred B. Vermont

Some mothers are kissing mothers and some are scold-ing mothers, but it is love just the same, and most

mothers kiss and scold together. ~Pearl S. Buck

If you have a mom, there is nowhere you are likely to

go where a prayer has not already been. ~Robert Brault

Sweater, n.: garment worn by child when its mother is

feeling chilly. ~Ambrose Bierce

Women's Liberation is just a lot of foolishness. It's the men who are discriminated against. They can't bear

children. And no one's likely to do anything about that. ~Golda Meir

The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

~Honoré de Balzac

All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his.

~Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest, 1895

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible. ~Marion C. Garretty,

A Little Spoonful of Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the

mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

A suburban mother's role is to deliver children obstetri-cally once, and by car forever after. ~Peter De Vries

The phrase "working mother" is redundant.

~Jane Sellman
