Pastor’s

Letter

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Sometimes it feels like whoever set up our calendars got things wrong when they made the new year start in January. For a lot of us, September and all the changes that come with it feel much more like a new beginning than January 1st does. Schools and colleges begin again; sports seasons start in earnest; clubs and organizations induct new members and plan schedules. The church is no exception. St. Paul’s has a great many activities that will resume in the coming weeks—and some new opportunities! Rally Day kicks most things off on September 11th: We will worship together at 9:30, followed by a congregation-wide service project packaging 10,000 meals! September 18th bring with it our fall schedule: worship at 9:00 and 10:30, and the first day of Sunday School at 9:00. Other groups are getting going, too: --Adult Choir begins rehearsing on September 8th --Women’s Christian Fellowship resumes on September 15th --Families with Young Children starts with a picnic and moonbounce on September 25th --Pub Theology will pick up on September 26th --Youth Group for grades 7-12 begins with game night on October 2nd There are a lot of opportunities to be involved and to help make this a great year both for your family and St. Paul’s. I encourage you to try to find a group or activity, or even just one event, that you may be interested in joining us for! We also greatly want you to join us at one of our Small Group Gatherings at members’ homes. These are a chance to talk about why you are a part of St. Paul’s family, and what your vision is for our congregation’s future. There is more information about dates and how to RSVP included in the Chimes. It is my prayer that as our new year begins we might go forward together with a renewed sense of God’s purpose in our lives and in our congregation. I hope to see you at Rally Day and into the coming new year! In Christ, Pastor Laura Tancredi

Music Ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has an active music ministry featuring four singing choirs and a handbell choir. We are blessed with wonderful acoustics and backed by a splendid pipe organ. Our worship is liturgical but not overly formal, and we use the Evangelical Lutheran Worship Hymnal of the ELCA as our primary worship resource.

Children’s Choir: Elementary school age children, beginning in first grade [kindergarten is possible if the parent and child think he or she is ready] are invited to sing in this group. The choir meets on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:25, and usually sings on the first Sunday of the month in the early service, and in special services throughout the year. The children’s choir will begin rehearsing this year on Thursday, September 8.

Youth Choir: Older children and youth from middle school and high school make up this group. The youth choir meets two Sundays a month, 7:00-8:00 pm, and sings usually once a month and at special services. Contact Andy for the Youth choir schedule. The first Youth Choir rehearsal will be September 11. Adult Choir: The adult choir rehearses every Thursday from 7:30-9:00 pm, and sings in the late service most Sunday mornings (the early service once a month). They are backed by a professional quartet. They also sing in concerts and festival services throughout the year. Adult choir rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 8.

Handbell Choir: This group is led by Gordon Downing and meets Sundays after the late service to practice. They play periodically in Sunday morning worship services and are open to all who would like to learn the art of handbell ringing.

Matins Choir: The Matins Choir provides liturgical leadership in the early service, and has a warm up rehearsal at 8:40 on Sunday mornings, and sings about twice a month. There are also needs for vocal soloists and instrumentalists throughout the year. Do you play an instrument? Please contact me so we can use your gifts as well. There are no auditions for any choir at St. Paul’s. All you need is a love of singing and leading worship to find your place in one of our choirs. Andy Heller
