Health Warriors Has Begun! It is NOT too late. You can still join us. Did you eat too many goodies over the holidays? Are you looking to start an exercise program? If so, then the Health Warriors program is for you. The program will include circuit training to opti-mize strength, endurance, and health.

Healthy for Life Mondays at 12:00 pm in the Library

You can still join us! We are diving into “The Daniel Plan” by Rick Warren. This book is not about a fad diet, guilt-driven gym sessions, or shame-driven fasts. Nor is it a “do it all now” approach.

The Daniel Plan shows how focusing on the powerful combination of the key essentials can change your life forever…..one choice at a time.

Sweetheart Dinner and Dance Saturday, February 14

6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall

Bring your sweetheart to the Sweetheart Dinner and support the Mission to Mex-ico all at the same time. Tickets are being pre-sold for $15 at the Information Center or can be purchased at the door for $20. Childcare is provided. The youth and Mission to Mexico travelers will be serving.

Do you and your sweetie have a special song? We are taking song requests for the dance. You may make your requests at the time of purchasing your ticket.

All are welcome: singles, couples and groups. Come support those going on Mission to Mexico by enjoying a delightful evening of tasty food and dancing!

Bites of Bread from Bob In my files I found a New Year's Resolution article that is good to look at on a regular basis. The author is unknown.

1) Start each day with God. This is not easy. It means heeding the alarm instead of sleeping on. It means getting out of that warm bed, reading His Word for cleansing and instruction and praying to God as you commit your day to Him. Resolve: To keep your daily rendez-vous with the Lord.

2) Organize each day the night before. Do not be disorganized. Set out, in order of their priority, the things that need to be done. This will enable you to do the necessary rather than the urgent. Resolve: To be organized.

3) Exercise every day. The older each of us gets the harder it is to keep the fat off and the body in shape. Let us be good stewards of the bodies God has given us and keep them toned. Our minds as well as our bodies will function better when we are physically fit. (Check out our "Healthy for Life" classes on Mon-days at 12:00 pm and "Health Warriors" Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm as well as the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at 9:00 am.) Resolve: To get in shape and stay in shape.

4) Praise God even when you do not feel like it. We were created to praise God. Every moment of every day be thankful for God's love. Relax in His prom-ises and in everything give thanks. Resolve: To praise God at all times.

A Warm Welcome to New Members On January 4 at the 11:00 am service Greg & Shaney Starr came forward to become members of Salem First Christian Church. Greg & Shaney have been attending with us for several months. Greg's daughters, Lauren and Ellie, have often attended with them. Lauren attends Chemeketa Community Col-lege and Ellie is a freshman at South Salem High School. They are anxious to get involved in the life and ministry of the congregation. Also on January 4 at the 11:00 am service, Tanya Shubin came forward to rededicate her life to Christ and to have prayers for her surgery on January 6. Please keep her in your prayers for healing.

Thank You To Our New Church Family: Thank you so much for being so welcoming, helpful and generous to us - especially at Christmas time! We feel truly blessed to have been led to such a won-derful new church home.

Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie In December, we worked on gratitude and giving to others. One way we challenged the kids was to bring in snacks for our Helping Hands cupboard, a special place in our church where we keep snacks for home-less when they come to our doors. Once or twice a year, we issue this challenge to our kids as a way for them to help our community members who are less fortunate. We discussed how not everyone in our community gets to share meals with their families or have healthy snacks. As the cold winter months pro-gress, we are discovering that our Helping Hands cupboard is emptying more often. Sometimes people from the street come to the church to get a snack or a cup of coffee and stand inside for a few minutes to get warm. When we look upon these visitors as if we are looking at the face of Jesus and give them hospi-tality instead of judgment, then we are carrying out the greatest commandment to love our neighbor. Let’s make this a year of love. Please talk to your children about this mission project and help them pick out snack crackers, portion-sized packets of chicken, tuna, fruit cups or snacks, bottled water, or protein bars to donate to our Helping Hands cup-board. I love when I can hand a snack out to a hungry person knowing it came from the loving hands of our children.

January is a great month to get back into routine.

Coming up: January 18, 5:30 pm: Strengthening Families, a class that helps us improve our communication within our families and with others. It includes a free video, childcare, discussion, potluck dinner and fun fellow-ship. Anything can happen when kids switch roles with parents as we act out life situations. Please bring a dinner dish to share.

January 25, 12:15 pm: Junior Youth Fellowship for 3rd-5th graders. We will focus on sharing with others as we make Stone Soup and crafts to share. Please bring a food item for our soup. Parent help needed.

Ramblings from Riane Just before New Year’s, I read a devotion that was about the verse in Matthew 8:10 – “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!” Many of us formulate New Year’s resolutions around this time of year. Have you thought about amazing Jesus with your faith as your New Year’s resolution? Including Him in your daily decisions, asking Him to guide you through struggles (no matter how big or small), trusting Him with your whole heart, reaching out to Him with questions, or asking that He speak through you are ways we might impress Jesus with our faith. Each of us was given unique gifts by our Creator that we can use to deepen our faith. We all want to live our lives for Christ, so let’s excite Him with our New Year’s resolutions!

The Youth at Salem FCC wanted to thank you for another year of wonderful support from their loving church family!

I ask that you keep them in your prayers as they return to school.
