Bites of Bread from Bob A visit to the dermatologist revealed that my upbring-ing on a farm and years of outdoor activities has caused my skin to pay a price. Sun-damaged skin has left me with actinic keratoses. That is a fancy, scien-tific name for pre-cancerous skin lesions. The treat-ment is to apply an ointment that will destroy the lesions. The ointment is designed to not affect nor-mal skin. This may cause some redness and irritation but should leave a positive result in the end.

This process reminds me of the biblical concept of confession. The Greek word for confession literally means “to agree” or “fully acknowledge.” It is an acknowledgement that, like damage from the sun, I have done things that have not been good for me and are not according to God’s plan for me. Biblically, this is called “sin.”

I needed a dermatologist to diagnose my problems; King David needed the prophet Nathan to reveal his shortcomings. I John reminds us that if we think that we have not sinned, we are only lying to ourselves. Confession means to see sin as God sees our sin. It means that we agree with God’s will. It is only with the prescription of confession that the barriers be-tween us and God can be stripped away and our rela-tionship with God can be restored. It is not always comfortable admitting our failures, but the joy of for-giveness is worth it all. In the words of King David, who made his confession in Psalm 51, we read:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.”

“Thou Shalt Not NOT Give” We call this new edict the 11th Commandment and it is the theme of this year’s stewardship campaign.

By now you have received a stewardship letter with enclosed commitment cards asking you to make a personal promise of estimated giving for the coming year. Consider a tithe or a specified, dedicated amount as your gift to God. He knows your heart, all the way to your pocketbook.

The church will thrive and you will be blessed be-yond all expectations.

GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays Saturday, November 15 10:00 am, Ambassadors Room

The GriefShare program is presenting “Surviving the Holidays” for anyone who has lost a loved one. Invite others that you think may benefit from this one-time program.

Splinters from the Board At the November 2, 2014 Board meeting we dis-cussed the following items:

• Approved a new policy for “Reducing the Risk of Abuse of Children, Youth, Vulnerable Persons and Adults” (copies available through the church office).

• Reviewed financial accounting practices (past, present and future).

• Trustees reported that negotiations with the State of Oregon about the Department of Energy Build-ing has two options on the table. Plan A is an ex-tension of the lease through July 2015. Plan B is an extension well into 2016. More will be known within the next 30 - 60 days.

• Approved the 2015 Board Nominee Report (The list of those to be voted upon is included in this Scroll on page 6.)

• Approved the proposed 2015 Budget.

The Board wants to affirm their meetings are open and all are invited. When minutes are approved, they are posted on the bulletin board outside of the church offices.

CWF Christmas Tea and Treasures “Silver Bells” Saturday, December 6 12:00 pm, Fellowship Hall

A very special event is being planned for December 6 at 12:00 pm. Our Christmas Tea theme this year is “Silver Bells.” Plan to attend and enjoy a program about bells, including special music and a delicious lunch.

Do not miss this time of fun and fellowship. Ticket sales begin on Sunday, November 9. Cost: $12 Adult and $6 Child.

Daffodil and Tulip Bulbs, Please The Property Committee is asking for your donations of daffodil and tulip bulbs. We will plant them to enliven our grounds for spring blooming. Bring your bulbs to the church and leave them with Melissa in the church office. We would like to get them planted as soon as possible. Thank you for your gifts.

Updated Lighting in the Church Thanks to Bob Dickerson and the Mari Dickerson Memorial Fund, lighting changes were made in the building.

A light was moved and LED bulbs installed in the CWF closet to improve lighting that had been blocked to some areas. Switches for two lights in the Sanctuary were separated from the main switch to allow them to remain on when all other lights are off. This will allow the banners to remain lighted when desired. An LED light replaced an exterior florescent light on the west side of the church to provide better lighting in the alley and parking areas to the west of the church. Thank you Bob Dickerson.

Morning Men's Coffee For years I have participated in a morning men's cof-fee for fellowship, devotion and discipleship.

I would like to start a weekly one at FCC so we can fellowship and build relationships beyond our Sunday time. To do this, I would like to hear from anyone interested or having suggestions for a format or top-ics.

Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie HARVEST PARTY, A Celebration of Blessings: WHAT A PARTY!!!

The biggest blessing to me is seeing so many people come together and genuinely enjoy each other. Thank you for participating. Thank you for volun-teering. Thank you for bringing desserts. Thank you for bringing soup or chili or stew. Thank you for bringing cider. Thank you for decorations. Thank you for helping to clean up and set up. Thank you to the Saturday crew for coming to help set up, decorate and fellowship together!

Thank you to Buckmaster family for the wonderful Saturday JYF lunch and the Moya family for the cake—it really gave us the “pep” to keep going on Saturday (and Sunday)! Thank you to Lancaster Roth’s, Michelle Gorman’s family and Greg & Robin Schar for the pumpkin donations. Thank you to the talented Leonard Snodgrass for the square dancing. As always, thank you to the Dyer boys for all your hard work!

And a hearty thank you hug to everyone for making this “the best Harvest Party yet!”

Ramblings from Riane Ephesians 2:18-19 was recently brought to my atten-tion and I would like to share it with you. It reads: “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer for-eigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household.”

God’s word has a powerful way of comforting us when we need it most. I was reminded that God is always there to listen and understand whenever we need Him. He wants us to pursue a relationship with Him, talk to Him, pray with Him, and love Him. Knowing Him is like being a part of a loving family with God as the Father and fellow Christians as our brothers and sisters in Christ. God is always there to turn to and He is patiently waiting with open arms.
