The Donald C. Martin Observatory
Celestron 14” Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope
Originally owned by Leo Henzl, it was purchased by the Ohio Valley Astronomical Society (OVAS) and the (then) Huntington Galleries in 1972 or 1973.
The telescope was used for quite some time, but it's placement on the roof of the (now) Huntington Museum of Art resulted in occasional problems. It was removed from the roof of the Museum around 1985 and kept in a photo lab.
The telescope eventually fell into dis-repair and the goals of the Huntington Museum of Art (HMA) changed.

The insides were gutted. We found Leo Henzl’s name written on one of the support 2x4’s.

Fall 1998
Now into winter, 1998-1999. The pier is isolated from the rest of the dome, and is sunk to a depth of over 1 meter.
Gravel filled, ready for dome floor.

Ready for the dome.
There are no images of the dome being placed into position…
Early spring, 1999. Nice weather.
