Electrification.-Speed Limit on East London Railway.

In reply to yours of the 6th instant, re the a.hove subject, I see no reason why the Rpee<l re.;triction of 15 miles per hour through the Tho.me:i Tunnel should not be withdrawn when the c:lecLrification works ha,·e been carried out, a.nd a. speed limit of 30 miles per hour substituted for all pa.ssengl•r trains, over the ;~~~~d libee,6:~~1~ the exception of St. Marys, Whit.echapel Junction, where a. liooit of :20 miles per hoJr

The eristing. speed restricLion of 15 miles per hour must be retained for all goorls tra.ins on account of the gra.d1ents at ea.ch end of the Tu.nuel, and the dan"'er of couplin"s bein .. broken consMUf'Dt upon the driver snatching a. train with loose couplings. = = °' ·

~be road is ia.id with 9~! lbs. B.R. rails irnd broken stone balla.st throughout of the sa.m~descriptioi as thiit in use on the S.E. sect1on of the main line.
