  • Dear Espians,Greetings to you!

You have been bestowed with the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity. Use this treasure to benefit all that you come across. EGS is an excellent example where everyone strives indefatigably for this.

Our institution has grown, since its inception in 2012, nurturing young minds of the town with the belief that “The heart of education is the education of the heart”.

In the last six years we have established ourselves in Roorkee to be a school which strives to bring out all the hidden talent in our students in a way best suited to them.

I am proud to hand over the reins of the Editorship of this 5th issue to Mr. Digvijay Singh a senior faculty member who has welcomed it with open arms. All the best to the entire team who has put this together. I hope you had great fun doing so.

Enjoy every moment of this magazine because in life there aren't rewinds, only flashbacks. This exhilarating issue has a wide range of poetry, riddles, paintings and inspirational articles, also featuring all events and achievements during the session 2018-19.

We grow, we have been growing …it's been going on for ages. We call it “evolution”. Our kids are witnessing a whole new world with technology playing vital role in their day-to-day life. We have a greater sense of responsibility in guiding our kids in a way that they understand what is good and what is not so good for them. I was born and brought up in a joint family so everyone had their eyes on me the whole day. However the present work culture doesn't allow the joint family to thrive and the nuclear family is gaining popularity. This increases our responsibilities as teachers and parents. It's important to understand each and every individual as we all are different and we cannot have universal judgment for all. The most important thing that I believe we can give to our kids for their overall development is “our time”. “Education has taught a vast population how to read but unable to

    distinguish what is worth reading”

It is our combined responsibility to guide our kids so that they read well, they watch well, they listen to what is good, and it is our responsibility to help them become better human beings. The rich man's diseases like anxiety, depression and laziness has become a common phenomenon among the younger generation. This is the age where physical activities should be the maximum so that the body remains fit and healthy. However this generation is only exercising their fingers on smart phones.Gone are the days when parents used to say

  • “Learning gives Creativity, Creativity leads to Thinking, Thinking provides Knowledge, Knowledge makes us Great”…Quiz competitions are always interesting and informative, which provide excitement among the students and also make them aware of current affairs. 15th November, 2018 heralded the 5th Inter-School Quiz Competition at The Espee Global School. The event witnessed enthusiastic preparation and participation of 12 schools from in and around

Roorkee. They were Montfort School, Shemford Sheffield School, Adarsh Bal Niketan, APS-1 Roorkee, DPS Ranipur, DPS Roorkee, Scholars Academy, BML Munjal Green Meadows School, New St. Thomas Academy, St. Marks Academy, Chandra Shekhar Public School and the gracious host The Espee Global School. The teams comprised of two participants per school. The format entailed 6

rounds for each school, based on Literature, General Awareness, History, Visual and Audio rounds . A wide range of questions were posed by quiz master Mr. Digvijay Singh. The questions put forth to the teams were intriguing, exciting and made the audience applaud excitedly. It definitely kept the participants at the edge of their seat. The scores were tabulated by Sir Anish Singhal and Ma'am Nibha. The neck-to-neck competition saw two winners(The Espee Global School and DPS Ranipur) with equal scores. After a tie-breaker DPS Ranipur came out victoriously and stood first while the host school, The Espee Global School secured the second position. The event came to an end with a vote of thanks by the Principal of the host school, Mr. Shawn Clifford Tims.

    Season 5Educational Tour

“The world is a book, and those who have not travelled have read only one page.” We at Espee Global believe that trips and excursions are a perfect way to expand one's horizon. The year 2018 provided the senior students with an opportunity to explore and admire The City of Joy, Kolkata . The purpose of the tour to the Eastern corner of India was to make the children aware of diverse culture and the beauty of their tradition. It has long been known for its literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. Guided by five teachers, 50 students started their journey by train on 3rd August and reached Kolkata on 4th August, 2018.The major attractions for the students were serene and beautiful Princep Ghat, Kalighat Temple, Nicco Park, Victoria Memorial, St. Pauls Cathedral, The Esplanade, Botanical Gardens and the well-known Shanti Niketan which gave them an insight to Rabindra Nath Tagore's life. The replica of the Noble Prize caught the attention of the students the most. The students went through an experience of witnessing 'in real' what they read or should read about India. It was an overall informative and fun-filled experience for the students and the teachers as well.

  • Green DayGreen day was celebrated on 27th April 2018 in an instructive way where the children learnt about the importance of the color green and the positive effects it has on our lives. We laid emphasis on “Tree Plantation” to save our Earth and we conducted an Animal parade to emphasize on the need to “ Save trees and Save our planet-The Earth”

“ The Joy of Giving makes life worth living.” This is an activity which was

conducted on Children's Day and Christmas. It aims at spreading joy and

happiness among those who need help and support, and for each of us to

experience the joy of giving. This was celebrated with great enthusiasm

by the children at EGS. Each child

    brought toys, books, clothes, blankets,

eatables, etc to share with the children

who await such things. The students'

    council visited an orphanage, leprosy

house, railway station and NGO to share

the same. Our students felt amazed and

    enriched with this activity.

One cannot have more fun than

playing with water on a hot day in a

    pool.

Our school pool is a great place to

lounge in and escape the heat. Each

    jet spray intermittently releases

streams of cool water offering endless

fun for the kids as they try to catch or

    dodge the spray.

    Water play activities in young

    children strengthen motor skills and

build balance. The ability to propel

    and navigate coordination is also

    sharpened.

  • Staying healthy, both physically and mentally, despite the hectic schedule is tough. But the Espians call it a choice. If we make the right choice at the right time, there should not be a momemt of discomfort. That's exactly what the parents felt when they were given an opportunity to spend some quality time with their children at the Primary Pantomime which was held on 31st October to 2nd November 2018. The theme was based on Fairy Tales. Short stories were selected to cover a range of genres and themes that might appeal to students as well as parents because we all know drama is a strong medium of communication. It helps to develop dramatic skills and promote acting ability. It helps the students to learn English more effectively and with more exposure to Language Art.

FIELD TRIPS 'Beyond Walls and Outside the Boxes; let's experience the power of Field Trip.' We, at Espee Global, believe that there are many ways to educate a child. A school field trip is one such effective educational activity for students that helps facilitate fast and efficient learning. So instead of just reading and writing in the classroom, we take the effort to offer creative learning to students through educational field trips every month.

The students went to the Patanjali Research Centre, Patanjali Hospital, Easy Day, Milk Factory, a Sugar Factory and many more places where they could connect the classroom concepts to real life situations. Wherever we went the students had a memorable experience as they made lifelong memories among peers, which is no doubt a fun learning experience in itself.

    RAKHI MAKING Tulsi Dass Jayanti

Introducing the children to their rich cultural heritage of India and

keeping with the tradition of celebrating all festivals with fervor and gaiety,

Baisakhi festival too was celebrated with great enthusiasm in our school on

    13th April.

The children were explained the importance of this festival that

Baisakhi is not only a harvest festival but also a very auspicious day as

Guru Gobind Singh established the 'Khalsa Panth'' on this day. All the

students celebrated and enjoyed this festival by dancing to Punjabi folk

songs and also tapped their feet together to Bhangra beats. The motive

behind this celebration was to apprise the children of their culture and

heritage. The celebration of this festival marked the beginning of

    festivities in our school.

Mother's Day is a celebration honouring all the mothers, their

sacrifices, motherhood, maternal bonds, and their influence in society.

It was celebrated on 11 May 2018. The pre -primary classes

enjoyed the day with great pomp and show. The day started with a

Ramp Walk of mothers along with their children, followed by a game

'Musical Chairs'. Both the activities were enjoyed by our guest

mothers. A class activity was conducted where mothers were asked to

make a beautiful house with their child using colourful clay. The day

ended with a race where all the mothers participated with their

children. The winners of the musical chairs and the race were

    awarded prizes.

After all, the character of a person is best visualized at

the sports field. The Inter-House Basketball

Elocution is an art of delivering a speech, an

art that can help one to stand out in the

crowd. It is the study of formal speaking

    with correct pronunciation, grammar, style

and tone. A vocally eloquent person has a

shot edge over others in a group.

So, to achieve this objective, English as well

Competition was conducted on 28th July,

2018 from PP1 to Grade 8. Different topics were given to different Houses. The speeches

were rich in content and gave much food for thought. Focus was given on their gestures,

vocabulary, voice modulation and posture to increase the effectiveness of the speech to

describe the topics given to them. This Elocution brings out the areas wherein our

students needs to put in added efforts to move from good to better.

I am studying in this school for the last four years and I have experienced

many changes in myself due to many workshops which are organized by my

school. The teachers are very helpful and are ready to be available for us

whenever we need them. Under their guidance we have definitely become

    good human beings.

Mrs Evelyn Lydia Tims began her eventful

career 28 years ago. She seemed to take

delight in teaching the 5 year olds and has

been doing that ever since. Not to mention,

her expertise in that transitional class had

every school she worked in since then,

refused to get her to move from there and this

made all the difference in the hundreds of

children who has passed through her hands.

This passion which she possesses today comes

from teachers who taught her during her school days at Bishop Westcott Girls' School, Ranchi. She then graduated her Teachers'

Training from St. Mary's Allahabad and began her career in St. Mary's Convent School, Jharsuguda, Orissa. After she got

married, she moved to Asansol, a railway town in West Bengal where she taught in The Assembly of God Church School and later

in St. Patrick's Higher Secondary School, run by The Congregation of Irish Christian Brothers, Dublin, Ireland before moving to

Devlali, Maharashtra and joining Barnes School and Junior College, an institution attached to the oldest Education Society in

India – The Bombay Education Society, Byculla, Mumbai. As chance would have it, she got the opportunity to experience a short

stay of a year in the hills at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Solan, Himachal Pradesh before moving to work with the reputed Rai Bahadur

Mathura Dass family in Roorkee with the then newly instituted Espee Global School, five years ago. This has been a fabulous

experience amalgamting her friendly and approachable nature with the mission of this great institution of transforming every

child into a natural problem solver thus facilitating the exchange of information.

Evelyn has inspired all the students under her care to learn. She does not stick to the textbook or traditional methods of teaching.

She finds creative ways to make the material accessible to her students, staying up-to-date with the best practices which help to

enhance instruction. She also provides parents with resources to continue the learning process at home and often makes time

outside of class to make a visit to them to get to know them better.

She has earned her respect and admiration by serving as a role model for her students by always having the best interests of her

students in mind. She has always treated her students fairly, setting high expectations and being consistent with discipline. She

has always gone beyond interacting with her students on an instructional level and works to make sure their physical and

emotional needs are met, as well.

Today, we are proud of her to be awarded The Rotary Nation Builder Award.

May she continue to guide and mould all these young minds.

  • “Grandparents are parents with silver in their hair and gold in their heart.”

To honor and regard all the Grandparents, The Espee Global School celebrated “The

Grandparents Day” on 17th November 2018. The program started with performances by the

Primary students which reminded them about their good old days. A ramp walk by the

Pre-Primary kids was the show- stealer. Some games were also conducted for the grandparents

which reminded them of their childhood. The show ended with smiling faces and happy hearts.

On 22 November, the students of Grades 3, 4 and 5 of The

Espee Global School had an amazing experience as they were

a part of the Overnight Camp organized by the school. By

exploring various activities during the camping, the children

had a greater chance to find something that they would excel

at or made them happy. The Espee Global School aims at

    increasing the

    confidence of

    children so that

    they are able to

    e x p o s e

    themselves to

    face challenges

    a n d h e n c e

    making them

    self-dependent

individuals. A series of events were organized for the kids that included fun games,

bedtime stories, various skill enhancing activities and a Zumba workout in the morning. The special attraction was the 'Campfire

Celebration' where the children displayed their unique talents. The thread of special bond was woven between the teachers and

the students. They had a gala time and indeed carried cherishable experiences back home.

Education is a never- ending process. It

doesn't stop after earning a degree or

    starting a career. Through continuous

    education, career-oriented individuals can

constantly improve their skills and become

more proficient in their jobs. Keeping the

same viewpoint in mind, the management

of our school decided to organise this

workshop for the staff members on

Saturday, 23 June 2018. The resource

person for this workshop was Mr. M. Seshasai, Head- Strategic Accounts Development Dimensions International, Mumbai. Mr

No matter what profession one works in, it's important to be an expert in one's trade. In order to achieve success, one must possess a wide variety of social skills including workplace professionalism, honesty, integrity, good manners, and a good attitude. To make students understand this, we, at The Espee Global School, have a concept of calling Resource Persons in school. A resource person is an expert in a certain field of study. He/ she is a skilled person who has knowledge and skill for the work. These resource persons are invited in school by the teachers every month to enhance the knowledge of the students in a particular subject. Looking into the positive aspects of this activity, our school follows this concept from PP1 to grade 8.

    OLYMPIADOLYMPIADOLYMPIAD

“Practice makes a man perfect.” Keeping this in mind, Internal Olympiads are conducted every month to make the students prepared for the SOF Olympiad. It helps the students to test their understanding, level of knowledge and power of reasoning. Olympiads are not just the exams, they do a lot more to pull out the best in a child. The aim of conducting this Internal Olympiad exam is to provide a unique competitive platform to the young learners and create a talent pool for the future. To keep them motivated, certificates are given to the A1 and A2 scorers.

  • We feel proud and happy to be a part of the programme where we are doing collaborave work with some of the internaonal schools. This programme is called Connecng Classrooms. Connecng classrooms is a programme that helps build and supports links between schools across the globe with the aim of encouraging and enhancing Educaon for Global Cizenship. As the world becomes increasingly connected, so should our schools. It is a maer of bringing global collaboraon experiences to the classroom and geng comfortable with handing over the reins of learning to students. Exposing the students to global collaboraon builds cultural understanding, communicaon skills, and knowledge and awareness of the wider world. Engaging in internaonal learning encourages children to explore, develop and express their own values and opinions whilst listening to and respecng other people's point of views. The first school that we are working with is in Indonesia, SDN Mojorejo 01/State Elementary School. We did a collaborave work with them tled “Are You a Foodie” where the students interacted with each other through Skype and asked about their school. To know them beer, our students started with the food and made some very interesng Indonesian food. Our partner school at China is “Entel Westbrook Foreign Language School” located in Hangzhou. We are undergoing the project “Fesval of Light”. Our last collaborave work is with Sidharth English Boarding School which is in Nepal. With them, we are doing a project on the tradional games of a few countries of the subconnent.
