“A catechist is a person of faith, hope and love attached to arms and legs with aches, and pains, family duties and not enough time. A catechist is an ordinary person who is extraordinary be-cause he or she teaches as Jesus did. A catechist is faithful to the past, open to the future, but especially dedicated to deepening the faith of the present generation.” A catechist at St. John the Evangelist is one who follows the guidelines as set forth by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia adding their creativity, knowledge and personality to each lesson.

Our dedicated catechists number about 30 and they are willing to make the effort to plan and then present the tenets of our Catholic faith to the students. There is always room for more catechists or volunteers, so if you feel that your talents can be shared with the students while spreading the Good News of the Gospel, then the PREP family welcomes you!

Is the RCIA for you?

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) may be what you are looking for if you are:

• Not baptized and would like to learn more about the Catholic Church.• Baptized in another Christian faith and would like to learn more about the Catholic Church.• A baptized Catholic who has not yet received the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation and are now contemplating doing so.

The RCIA offers inquirers an opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith in an informal, discussion based format. The RCIA is a time of inquiry so that those who come can determine whether or not they would like to make the Catholic Church their spiritual home and the Catholic faith their own. You do not have to be certain of what you want to do to take part.

We will begin sessions in September. If you are interested, or if you have questions, you may contact Deacon Jon at the office at 215-295-4102 or at [email protected].
