Sunday, February 12th was a great day for a Sweetheart Social Cruise for a Valentine’s Day celebration to Fentons Creamery in Vacaville. Six cars left Baja Fresh at Sun Valley Mall after 11 am and caravanned up I-680 to I-80 at Cor-delia and on to the Nut Tree Plaza in Vacaville. The six families were Ron and Suzanne Freitas, Jim and Belinda Blair, John and Anne Haugrud, Harry and Karen Davis, Elizabeth and Race Cofer and my daughter Kristen and I. Larry and Belinda braved the trip with the top down. We met at Fenton’s and were joined by the Booth-Carr family for a total of 16 people. We were about half an hour early for our reservation, but were seated in a timely manner. Sandwiches, sun-daes and shakes were ordered and quickly devoured. Afterwards some people went shopping, the outlet stores are across the freeway, and others went home. Larry put the top down on his Roush as he left the parking lot.
This was the first time in many years we have done the Social and it was a lot of fun. My daughter said the Valentine’s Day Ice Cream Social was always her favorite Club event growing up. If you missed it, you missed a great sunny day for a cruise and you missed a good time. Besides, calories don’t count on holidays, right?

Membership is open to any Mustang enthusiast. Dues are $30.00 per year plus a $10.00 first year initiation fee. Business card size advertising is $50.00
(25.00 for members) for 12 monthly issues. ¼ page ads are $100.00 per year. Other advertising and insert rates are available. Members are allowed brief,

DVMA General Information
The DVMA meets on the second Wednesday of
each month at Fuddruckers. The Board of Directors
meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at one
of the Board Members homes on a rotating basis.

When: The second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM...Arrive early to order food. Order and pick up
your food downstairs. Bring your food upstairs to the meeting.

DVMA Dispatch President Message
Car Show plans are in full swing! Contact Jim Blair if you would like to volun-
teer your time and/or talents to make our annual Car Show and Shine a huge
success on May 6, 2017. It comes down to all of our members and their partici-
pation. National Mustang Day is in April, and DVMA members will celebrate
on April 15 at Cobra Experience in Martinez. Everyone will enjoy that venue
and the Museum, and the chance to see Mustangs from other car clubs. See Joe
Guidotti for more details and sign up to attend.
We will soon switch back to daylight savings time, and you know that summer
is not far behind! Polish and shine your Mustang so your pony will look great in the upcoming shows. Be sure to check the Events Book so you can sign up
for club outings. Talk to John Haugrud about joining a drive to Yosemite in July .
Have your tires been sitting in the garage? Have you checked tire pressure and looked at the tires to see if you
can find any problems? Your life rides on those tires.

President Harry Davis called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at Fuddruckers in Concord CA.
WELCOME to all. Harry announced meetings will begin at 7:00 pm.

John enjoyed a great visit to Barrett-Jackson, with Ron Freitas. There were some amazing cars!

Ed reported that DVMA has 72 memberships, with a total of 162 members.

Mustang Owners’ Museum – This Museum will be located in Concord, North Carolina, and is meant to be a museum for all Mustang owners. Harry and Karen attended the meeting that was held in Stockton in January. An article will be in the next newsletter. Sign up as a Charter member for $100, with membership for one year following the Museum opening.
Car for Sale – Harry has info about a 1965 Mustang for sale. John also receives sales info and will share details with any interested person

MY VERY FIRST CAR WAS A……

Well, it was a 1962 Plymouth Valiant. Back in 1967, the year I was a junior in high school, I was a Mopar guy. After
driving around in my parents’ old Dodge Coronet (really a tank on wheels) I decided to plunk down my hard-earned
$400 that I’d saved from my job as a delivery guy for Chicken Delight, anybody remember them? Back then you
searched in the “For Sale” column of the newspaper and I found an ad for a 1962 Plymouth Valiant 2-door. It was
white with a 3-speed manual transmission with a slant six motor. Of course, I didn’t waste any time before starting the
customizing process. First came a 4-barrel carburetor and manifold. Then came a tach, oversized chrome wheels on the
back and regular-sized chrome wheels with small “dog dish” hubcaps on the front. One of the things I liked about this
little beauty was that it had a bench seat in the front, which I considered essential so that my girlfriend, a certain Anne
Hazelwood (later to become Haugrud) could sit right up next to me without having to “sit on the hump” as most bucket
–seat cars would require. Hey, I had my priorities in order. I got it reupholstered and finally painted to a dark forest
green—a very “in” color that year. That car and I finally parted ways when I entered the Marine Corp in 1969. She was
a good one, and I learned a lot about working on engines and cars as I did all the modifications

NOW THIS IS PLANNING AHEAD
Harry recently received an email from a Mustang enthusiast from Germany who follows our website. He is a partic-
ular fan of the classic movie “Bullitt” and mentions that the 50th anniversary of the Bullitt movie will be in Octo-
ber of 2018. The gist of his email was that he is planning a vacation to San Francisco that would coincide with any
special events or activities that may be planned by the city of San Francisco or other local Mustang clubs.
Maybe this would be a cool theme to plan an event around. What do you think? Maybe a cruise along the route of
that famous car chase? Maybe a screening of the Bullitt movie with a party at the Cobra Experience? A costume
party where we all dress in 1960’s attire? I’m sure there are lots of other ideas that you may come up with. Start
thinking about it and see where it goes. Maybe we can have Juergen Fichtelmann from Germany join us!

COBRA EXPERIENCE - This year we would like to open our parking lot to any/all Mustangs, and/or clubs that would like
to participate in having a TON of Mus-tangs in one place. Since the 17th hap-pens to fall on a Monday, and Sunday is
Easter, mark down April 15
Note that the museum will be open on 4/15 instead of 4/16 in April! Yes,the museum is going to be open on a Saturday!!

Jim thanked Dean Cofer for his assistance in transferring info to the new website (same web address). The website was down for a couple days while that happened and is operating in full mode now.
CAR SHOW – Jim Blair
The Cobra Experience will be the location of DVMA’s annual Show and Shine on May 6, 2017. The cost to DVMA is tiered based on the number of cars that are in the Show. There will not be any shirts or hats as giveaways. Each entry will receive one ticket to the Museum (value $10.). There will be food catering on-site. Bill Brandt Ford is assisting DVMA. Delta Bay Mustang is doing the trophies. Entries will register on-line with Motosho; manual registration can be used. There is room for 260 cars, 10 of those spots will be for Bill Brandt Ford and other vendors. Attendees will be able to buy an entry ticket to the Museum in order to go inside the building. The website has a button that allows anyone to make donations to the two charities supported by DVMA, Bay Area Crisis Nursery and the Food Bank.

The latest issue of the Mustang Times has been updated and is very interesting. There will be another change in the magazine next month. Note that MCA membership is now on tiered levels so members can choose how to get news from MCA. Club officers must be MCA members. MCA has added a National Show for July in Atlanta, with both driving and a car show.
