Our primary class structures are as follows:

For specific wellbeing issues that are not related to the classroom or learning, please contact Caryn Jones, the Head Teacher Learning and Wellbeing.

Always please feel free to contact the office directly with any enquiry and they will also be able to direct you to the best person to assist you.

COVID restrictions

I’d like to remind you that we still have a number of COVID restrictions.

1. Any visitor to the school is required to sign in with the visitor COVID sign in form, the normal school sign in book and now we also have the Service NSW QR code to assist track and trace efforts. Your compliance with these processes is much appreciated.

2. Gatherings are limited at school, so parents may still come to school for uniforms and to attend appointments, however we still can’t have volunteers working directly with students.

3. Excursions and field trips can continue, however subject to the COVID safety plan at the site.

4. The swimming carnival is subject to the COVID safety plan at the pool, and I’m pleased to share that they can accommodate up to 600 people. Please ensure you respectfully follow all COVID restrictions under their direction.

Warm regards,

Paul Laing

Works at school

I’m thrilled to announce that we have been notified this morning that we have been successful in an application for a new shade structure to be constructed over the basketball courts. This is an important development for the school to help provide a sheltered area for the continuity of sporting activities in all weather. It will also be a wonderful asset for the community to access once completed.

Contacting the school

If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning please contact the following people:

We have modernised our telecommunication systems including the PA system, telephones and removed redundant cabling. There will be a range of emergency bell warnings tested over the first couple of weeks. Please do not be alarmed hearing the different test alarms.

Swimming Carnival

This year Barellan Central School will once again be participating in our annual Swimming Carnival on the 12th of February. The carnival will be commencing at 9:00am for students aged 8 and above. K/1/2 will remain at school until recess. They will then participate in water games.

All students will be required to have:

• appropriate swimwear • rashie must be worn when not swimming

competitively • goggles • hat • towel • sunscreen

Please ensure all clothing is clearly labelled and in a plastic bag.

If your child / family does not hold a season ticket, they will be required to pay $3.00 at the school office on the day.

Qualified swimming instructors and Barellan Central School staff will supervise students.

The P&C will run a BBQ lunch and the pool canteen will have their normal items available.

We are delighted to be able to invite parents and guardians to watch our carnival however, we will need to follow the COVID safety plan at the pool. Please ensure you register on entry and respectfully follow their directions.

School Photos

School photographs are scheduled to be taken by advancedlife on Thursday the 4th of March. Whilst an envelope and flyer will be distributed shortly, if possible it is our preference that ordering be completed online to reduce administration and potential security issues related to the return of cash and envelopes on photo day.

Orders for packages and sibling photographs can be made online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our school’s unique 9 digit advanced order code. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day.

Should you wish to purchase a sibling photograph online, the order must be placed no later than the day before photography day. Sibling photographs will only be taken if an order has been placed.

Should you have any queries concerning school photographs or online ordering, please contact us at www.advancedlife.com.au/contact

Go to www.advancedlife.com.au and enter the code:

What is Hands on Learning?

Hands on Learning is an onsite program that builds engagement, attendance and student achievement by building confidence and capacity. A group of 6 – 8 boys and girls from Year 7 - 10 spend one day each week out of normal classes. The day is carefully structured with expectations, boundaries and consistent parameters, enabling students to achieve in a safe environment.

Students propose, plan and complete real projects throughout the school and the community. Projects are intended to have purpose, add value and be a vehicle to learning about work ethic, achievement and others.

HoL is made up of four fundamental principles that build a platform for young people to grow in confidence, increase engagement and achievement at school.

• A place to belong

A physical sanctuary at school.

• People to belong to

Small teams working together, sharing meals and building strong relationships.

• Real things to do

Engaging in creative and meaningful projects.

• A chance to give back

Making valuable contributions to their community, building self-esteem and connection.

If your child is interested in being considered for the Hands on Learning team, Ms Jones and Mrs Prentice can help them to complete a Student Nomination Form.

If you would like any further information, please do n ot hesitate to contact Ms Jones.

Poddy Lamb Program 2021

If you have a lamb that is in desperate need of care and you are unable to take care of it yourself, please consider donating it to the school’s poddy lamb program. Caring for poddy lambs is an important learning experience for all students in K-10, with students actively engaging in everyday care of the lamb. Every single student has an individual, hands-on experience feeding and engaging the lambs.

The P&C and Ag Farm successfully came together in 2020, raising 3 poddy lambs. The lamb milk was donated by the P&C with the lambs kindly being donated by DD & DM Farming and MA & JA Kenny, all of which will be sold early 2021.

With support from the P&C, the program is looking to take on poddy lambs again this year. If you have a lamb, or are interested in donating for 2021 (or wanting to assist in any way possible), please contact Agriculture teacher Louise Robertson at the school.
