4-H Re-enrollment Time!
September/October 2019
Ozaukee County WI. 4-H
2 University of Wisconsin Madison—Division of Extension
We teach, we learn, we lead, we serve...
These changes effect ADULT VOLUNTEER enroll-
ments.
A few changes will be implemented into 4H Online,
impacting how you re-enroll for 2019-2020. The tips on
the front page still apply, but please note the following:
Volunteer Type for Adult Volunteers (required)
New in the 2019-2020 enrollment year, the State 4-H
office will be providing Volunteer Role Descriptions
to all adult volunteers. This is necessary to comply
with UW-Madison policies concerning volunteers
and state liability insurance coverage. All adults
will need to select a club and volunteer type in 4H
Online. Volunteers should choose all options that
may reflect their involvement with 4-H for 2019-
2020 year. This info will be completed on the
“Additional Information” tab in your 4H Online
profile. If an adult DOES NOT select a volunteer
type, their profile will be returned to them and not
approved in the system until completed.
The choices for club volunteer type are:
Activity/Event Volunteer
Adult Advisor/Chaperone
Club Enrollment Coordinator (formerly Club En-
rollment and Club Manager)
Reenrollment Changes: NEW this Year!
As we kick off another 4-H year, we welcome new adult
volunteers and thank you for your willingness to serve in
this capacity. 4-H takes steps to ensure a safe and healthy
environment for youth and encourages safeguards for
adult leaders.
Each new volunteer is required to attend one session of
new volunteer orientation. Volunteers who have not en-
rolled in the last five years must also be retrained.
New Volunteer Orientation process includes the following:
Complete the online enrollment form which includes
a Volunteer Behavior Agreement (4H Online)
Participate in a New Volunteer Orientation session
Authorize a background check (4H Online)
Complete online Mandated Reporter Training
New Volunteer Orientation
Club Leader (includes Organizational/General and Co-
Organizational/Co-General)
Committee Volunteer
Project Leader (includes Key Leader and Resource
Leader)
Project Leaders will still need to select a project(s) and
volunteer type on “Participation” screen under
“Projects” tab. (ie: Archery Project Leader). This part is
the same as previous years.
Volunteers will receive a volunteer agreement letter
from the state 4-H office after enrollment is complete
containing volunteer role confirmation. This is linked
to state liability insurance. If something would happen
while performing a volunteer role you did not register
to take on, you may not be covered.
Older youth (age 18 and up) that are transitioning
from being youth members to adult leaders– you can
roll your youth profile info to the adult role. However,
please note that when filling in years in 4-H on the
“Personal Information” tab, it will be the years in 4-H
as any ADULT leader at that time. DO NOT include
your youth years.
The timeline for new adult approvals can be a few weeks.
Therefore, if you are interested in becoming an adult vol-
unteer with Ozaukee County 4-H, please keep the extend-
ed timeline in mind and sign-up early before the event(s)
you wish to volunteer for.
**Adults wishing to volunteer with The Haunt—Early
registration and volunteer orientation is a MUST.**

County Administration Center for:
Wednesday Sept. 25th at 10:00-11:30am in Room 118

7 4-H Motto
To Make the Best Better
National 4-H Week National 4-H Week takes place the first full week in Octo-
ber! Ozaukee County 4-H promotes National 4-H Week
for the entire month through several of the Ozaukee
County libraries. These libraries have graciously given
Ozaukee County 4-H access to their display cases to ex-
hibit projects that 4-H youth have created and exhibited
at County Fair. These projects are an example of the wide
variety of opportunities that the 4-H program holds for
young people.
Projects selected for this promotion received a black ro-
sette during judging. These items were selected to show-
case Ozaukee County 4-H specifically for these displays!
If you received one of the black rosettes, please bring that
project to the Extension office by Friday, September 13th.
The exhibits will then be sent to various libraries for dis-
play. The Extension office will let you know where your
exhibit is on display so you may go and see it.
Then beginning in November, your project will come
back to the Extension office and will be available to you
to pick-up and take back home.
Thank you in advance for sharing your project as part of
this important promotion of Ozaukee County 4-H!

Anthing Goes!
It was another fantastic year of Anything Goes, for the
40th anniversary of the games!! Kids from 8 different
clubs had fun using baby spoons, moving water, dressing
up and transporting cotton balls, using tennis rackets to
move rolling objects, and trying to retrieve sinking objects
from a pool!! Lots of laughs and cheers by all! Final rib-
bons went to Deckers Corners for 1st place, Lindenwood 2
New! Poultry-less Option New for 2019-2020, the Poultry project is expanding to in-
clude Poultry-less youth! What does this mean? Youth that
are interested in learning about, showing, raising poultry
but do not have the space or city ordinance prohibits keep-
ing poultry, will be able to team with current 4-H Poultry
families that have animals and space and “adopt” a critter
for the year.
Youth that want to join will need to sign up for the Poultry
project in their 4H Online profile when reenrolling.

Mr. and Miss 4-H each day for helping to emcee and run

Parking Cars
Roger would like thank all the volunteers who helped
with parking this year at the fair. We had many great “A-
teams” come out, including our mother- daughter, father-
son, and brother-sister teams. Truly you represent our
family values as a 4-H families working together and hav-
ing fun.
Also, a very special thanks to the 4-H youth volunteer,
who during his free time, came out the very next day, and
asked if he could park more cars. His service time was
greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for making a fair so great this year. See
you next year!

Clover Café

changes flow smoothly! Changing volunteers every 3
hours is a lot of work!!
We were open from 11:30am to 7:30pm on Monday and
Tuesday, 11am to 9pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and 11am to 7pm on Sunday with clean up to
follow. That is a lot of hours, plus all the ordering of food,
setting up of Café Saturday before fair, final taking down
Monday after Fair and accounting work.
The Café is a wonderful 4-H fundraiser! Everyone comes
in happy to do their jobs. Lots of smiles and many happy
customers. This only happens with a strong management
committee. The committee is a five year commitment.
Some of the existing committee members have been on
the committee for four years and next year will be their
last. We are looking for new volunteers!
We want to retain a minimum of 15 people on the Café
Committee. What does the position entail?
1. Each person would attend one meeting in March to
review our menu.
2. Another meeting in June to finalize and set up sched-
ule.
3. Help set up café on Saturday before fair so you know
the complete working of Café.
4. Take 2 half day shifts or 1 whole day shift at fair.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in
volunteering for please contact Dorothy Parchim at 262-
370-4745 or [email protected].
Thank you to Michelle Hernandez for opening every
morning and working every day!
Thanks for a great Clover Café Year! We look forward to
a great 2020.

Pool Party Recap
The Ozaukee County 4-H and County Board Exchange took place on Wednesday, August 21th. 4-H youth gathered with
the Ozaukee County Board Supervisors prior to the start of the County Board meeting to share leadership, citizenship,
travel and educational opportunities experienced and life skills gained in the 4-H program. In return the County Board
Supervisors listened intently and asked questions, creating an experience that reinforces positive youth-adult
relationships, a key component within the 4-H program.
The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance followed by Maria L. singing the National Anthem. 4-H youth were
seated with the County Board Supervisors during the Board Meeting to learn how the County Board operates. During the
meeting several questions were posed by the 4-H youth regarding the first presentation given on project lifesaver. The
day was rewarding for the 4-H youth and the
County Board Supervisors as they interacted and
engaged prior to and during the board
meeting. The success of the Exchange is a direct
reflection of those involved and their contribution
to the day. We thank the youth for
participating and sharing their experiences and the
adult volunteers that made the event run smoothly.

Oz Cnty. 4-H Foundation I would like to give many thanks for all the staff for this
year’s summer camp. I am continually amazed at the
quality of youth leaders that keep coming up through the
ranks. I would like to say what great mentors and role
models our counselors are to the younger youth. I would
also like to recognize our adult staff. Without you, we
would not be able to have such a successful camp. You
happily take your time and vacation to give these kids a
fun filled camp experience. You are a gift to the program.
The skills taught and smiles displayed at our break-out
areas including: shooting sports, camping skills, nature,
waterfront, crafts and outpost adventure are priceless. I
would also like to give a big thanks to the unsung staff:
our nurse, our dining hall coordinator, our photographer
and our coordinating assistants. Finally, thank you to our
Assistant Director and Jr. Director. We received a great
email from our 4-H Liaison, Jessica, who attended camp,
stating we had the best camp volunteers that she has ever
worked with in all her experience in 4-H. What a
compliment! I would like to say thank you to Jessica, as
she was a pleasure to work with and gave great guidance
when needed. Ozaukee County 4-H is blessed to have all
these volunteers. We look forward to next years camp.
We welcome any new faces to volunteer for camp and of
course want ALL 4-H youth to experience camp.
