bridport & co. (Jersey) ltd is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
A big plus for Jerseybridport, an established and well respected Swiss financial
services group who are advisers to global banks and
fund management companies, will be offering a range of
innovative new services that combine Swiss precision with
Jersey expertise.
With local offices and global experience our clients get the
best of both worlds and our highly qualified staff certainly
speak your language.
So if you would like to hear more about bridport and their
range of products, speak to your adviser for more information.
bridport… it just all adds up.
Focus on returns, not on benchmarksWith Investment markets moving more rapidly than ever before, selecting
the right assets, at the right time and in the most appropriate proportions,
has never been more important.Whilst a large number of companies offer managed funds which are able to invest in a
wide range of assets, many in reality make only limited changes to asset allocation, fearful of
under-performing their respective benchmarks. Given that these benchmarks often contain
signifi cant equity weightings, it is perhaps unsurprising that equities constitute a substantial
percentage of these ‘managed’ funds, even in times of large stock market losses.
bridport’s investment process attempts to provide clients with a positive return, irrespective of
underlying market conditions, rather than tracking a benchmark and accepting that an investor’s
money will succeed or fail with the herd. Speak to your Advisor for more information.
bridport Funds... optimised for peak performance
This is not an invitation or offer of shares in The Optimised Fund PC (the “Fund”) and any such offer will be made only by means of the latest offering memorandum for the Fund,
which is available on request. Investments in the Fund are not guaranteed. The value of such investments and any income from them may go down as well as up and investors
may not get back the full amount invested. Past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.

More to see than just sea
7 LIFEBOAT STATIONLifeboats are vital to an island community; Jersey has three. The main lifeboat, the Sir Alexander Coutanche, is a 14 metre long Tyne Class vessel with a volunteer crew of six. A smaller fast RIB is also moored here and there is another in St Catherine’s on the east coast, to assist in incidents nearer the shore and amongst the rocks.
10 ELIZABETH MARINAWith 570 berths, this marina was opened by Prince Andrew in 1998 and provides modern facilities primarily for local boats, but also for non-residents who keep their boats here and fly in from London and elsewhere to sail in local waters.
WINdS ANd THE BEAuFORT ScALECut into the surface of the quay
is a row of polished granite slabs
that indicate wind strengths and
the various ways in which they
can be described. The Beaufort
Scale, invented by Admiral
Beaufort in 1805, lists wind
strength by numbers.
THE SIgNAL BENcHESAlong the marina edge are 26
granite benches – one for each
letter of the alphabet - showing
the ways in which messages can
be sent at sea, either by Morse
code, lights, flags or semaphore.
gEOgRApHIcAL LOcATIONThe letters and figures on
the marina wall indicate the
approximate position of St
Helier’s harbour in terms of
latitude and longitude, in
degrees, minutes and seconds.
Look up to the signal mast
on Fort Regent where, until
recently, pennants were raised
to indicate one o’clock. Knowing
one’s position in relation to the
Greenwich Meridian was vital in
the days before time zones and
the arrival of GPS!
THE SEA MINEAn old sea-mine on the corner
of the marina is used to collect
donations to the Seamen’s
Mission.
SHIp BENcHESCreated by Russell Coleman and
installed in 1997, the benches are
decorated with details of Jersey
built ships and shipyards and
vessels that sailed in Channel
Island waters.

9 THE RAdISSON BLu WATERFRONT HOTELThe only hotel located directly on St Helier’s reclaimed waterfront, the stylishly modern Radisson Blu offers al-fresco dining at the Waterfront Brasserie and Terrace or cocktails and light snacks while taking in the spectacular marina view in the Martello Bar. The hotel’s state-of-the-art health club offers first-class facilities that include pool, sauna, steam room and five treatment rooms.
13ELIZABETH cASTLEBuilt on a rocky islet in St Aubin’s Bay, Elizabeth Castle was named in honour of Queen Elizabeth I by Sir Walter Raleigh, Governor of Jersey between 1600 and 1603. Explore the grounds which gave refuge to King Charles II during the English Civil War, uncover the
bunkers which were re-fortified during the German Occupation and marvel at the hermitage where St Helier is thought to have lived around
550 A.D. At low tide you can walk out along the causeway or, if you want to experience a different way to travel, catch the amphibious Castle Ferry (DUKW) at low or high tide.
2 LIBERTY WHARFThis recently opened, mixed retail and leisure complex is a stunning blend of old and new, as modern design and engineering blend in complete harmony with the historic remains of one of Jersey’s old waterfront buildings. You’ll find a unique mix of big name brands and independent Jersey boutiques, along with Italian gelato, coffee and fish ‘n’ chips. Later in the day, head back for cocktails at Mimosa, dinner at the Quayside Bistro or a pint at the Fox & Firkin! www.liberty-wharf.com
3 LIBERATION SQuAREOn 9th May 1945, Jersey was liberated at the end of almost five years of occupation. Built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation, the central feature of the square is the fine sculpture by Philip Jackson, a symbolic piece reflecting the Occupation and some of Jersey’s unique aspects. The figures show a businessman and his wife, a fisherman, a farmer, his wife and young daughter; the only figure of military age is the soldier, a “Tommy”. The Union Jack is a symbol of links with the Crown, responsible for defence and foreign policy. The figures are standing on Jersey granite and the piece is surrounded by water to form an island, while the twelve fountains represent the parishes. In the summer, book coach tours from the Square, buy a Jersey ice-cream or hop on Le Petit Train for a journey to St Aubin.
4 STEAM cLOcKThe Island powered itself into the record books in 1997 with the unveiling of the world’s largest steam clock, ‘The Ariadne’, designed by Gordon Young. Modelled on a traditional 19th century paddle steamer, it symbolises Jersey’s reliance on efficient sea transportation for both trade and tourism, and the dramatic benefits to the economy from the arrival of steam-powered vessels in the 1820s. The benches in this area and around the old harbour basin record local vessels and their builders.
11 FREEdOM TREESculptor Richard Perry was responsible both for the Golden Jubilee Needle and the Freedom Tree. In the form of an oak tree, with 30 oak leaves and 12 acorns, this impressive work of art is a symbol of peace and liberty. Unveiled by the Queen on the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation, the evocative poem found at its base was composed by local poet Linda Rose Parkes and laments the loss of trees.
6 THE gOLdEN JuBILEE NEEdLEThe Golden Jubilee Needle, unveiled by HRH The Prince of Wales in June 2004, was commissioned by the Public Sculpture Trust to honour the Queen’s 50 years as Sovereign. The 20-ton piece is made up of 415 discs from Cumbrian slate quarries, their colours reflecting the moods of the sea. A steel rod through the centre tensions the 14-metre-high construction.
12 LES JARdINS dE LA MER & LA FREgATELes Jardins de la Mer (the sea gardens) and La Frégate Café were the first projects to be completed on the reclaimed waterfront in 1997. The café design, by architect Will Alsop, is often interpreted as an upside-down boat. The centrepiece of the gardens is a circular maze; the seaward half is formed from hedges, while the landward side consists of walls of water from jets of varying heights which rise and fall intermittently. The water jets create ever-changing pathways that lead to Philip Jackson’s centrally placed ‘Swimmers II’ sculpture. Look over the wall to see the amphitheatre-like sea defences; they make a perfect platform from which to view September’s International Air Display!
1 LIBERATION pLAcE & JERSEY TOuRISMThe Square at Liberation Place is the perfect place to begin a visit to St Helier’s Waterfront area. Located just behind the Liberation Station, you will find the Jersey Tourism Visitor Centre here; pop in to stock up on information and souvenirs. The centrally located café, Henley’s, has al-fresco tables in the summer, while Rowan Gillespie’s bronze sculpture ‘Jersey Girl’ keeps a bird’s eye view on the area.
8 cASTLE QuAY
Castle Quay, completed in April 2012, was designed by the world-acclaimed architect Eric Kuhne who is best known for Bluewater in Kent and Cockle Bay Wharf in Sydney. The site’s two buildings, Le Capelain House and Millais House, both consist of residential units with businesses and restaurants on the ground floors. Step inside the Chart Room at Millais House for some reflective peace in a grand environment; from here you can visit the café of local tea and coffee merchant, Cooper & Co. – their deli is packed with Genuine Jersey treats! Enjoy fine dining with marina views or visit the Champagne and tapas bar at Tiffin. Between the two buildings, look out for ‘The Wing’, a towering sculpture by Christopher Le Brun.
5 MARITIME MuSEuMThe award-winning Maritime Museum contains a fascinating exhibition telling the story of Jersey’s relationship with the sea and its maritime past. This is a uniquely interactive museum where you can see, touch, hear and even smell the exhibits;
feel the force of a gale, understand the tides and learn how to design and float a ship. Immerse yourself in songs and stories of the sea, and find out about the Island’s myths and legends.
The FigureheadThe figurehead over the Museum entrance is a replica of one from the Barque “Roseau”, built locally in 1857. It was sculpted by Andy Peters.
The MemorialOutside the Museum is a memorial to the twenty people who did not return from prisons and concentration camps in occupied Europe at the end of the war. The light was originally on the end of the St Catherine’s Breakwater.
