Welcome toSt. Peter!

Today begins the greatest of all weeks: Holy Week. There is no better place to be than in God’s house to receive Jesus as our King. Later this week, we look in on Jesus and his disciples at their first communion in the Upper Room receiving Jesus’ body and blood.

acts of love by which you saved us through your Son, Jesus.

OUR COMMUNION PRACTICEIn the Sacrament of Holy Communion,

Jesus gives us his true body and blood. We express unity with our Savior and those who share our faith and stand on the teachings of God’s Word.

Therefore, we invite to our altar those who are members of our church or the WELS. Visitors and guests who wish to commune are asked to speak to a pastor before the service begins.

Opening Verses

Pastor: We worship together in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen.

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Page 22: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinPastor:

As Christians, we trust Scripture as complete truth. God’s Word moves believers to take their sins to him by confessing them.

Page 23: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinAll:

In Matthew chapter 3 verse 6, it says: “Confessing their sins, they were baptized by John in the Jordan River.”

Page 24: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinAll:

In Acts chapter 19 verse 18, it says: “Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds.”

Page 25: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinAll:

In James chapter 5 verse 16, it says: “Confess your sins to each other.”

Page 26: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinPastor: As believers in the Triune

God, let us confess our sins to him.

All: For the times we have not welcomed you or your Word—and the times we have resisted it— Lord, have mercy on us.

Page 27: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinAll:

When our mouths have not given true Hosannas, but have been muted and silent—Christ have mercy on us.

Page 28: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of Sin

All: For all the moments we have been selfish and unwilling to spread our goods before you – unlike the people who placed their cloaks before you when you entered Jerusalem—

Lord have mercy on us.

Page 29: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinPastor: God has placed the full

payment of sin on our Savior Jesus.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Be at peace with God.

Page 30: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Confession of SinAll: God’s Word is truth.

I am forgiven by his blood, and his child through baptism.

God knows me by name and loves me.

Hosanna in the highest!

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed

All: I believe that Jesus Christ,

true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord.

Page 36: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed

All:

He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death.

Page 37: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

The Explanation of the 2nd article of the Apostles’ creed

All:

All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules eternally.

This is most certainly true.

No Tramp of Soldiers’ Marching Feet

CWS #716

Verses 1-4

Text: Timothy Dudley-Smith, b. 1926

Setting: NO TRAMP OF SOLDIERS’ MARCHING FEET

Tune: David W. Music, b. 1949

Page 39: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Verse 1:

No tramp of soldiers’ marching feet

With banners and with drums,

No sound of music’s martial beat:

“The King of glory comes!”

To greet what pomp of kingly pride No bells in triumph ring,

No city gates swing open wide: “Behold, behold your King!”

Page 40: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Verse 2:

And yet he comes. The children cheer;

With palms his path is strown.

With ev’ry step the cross draws near:

The King of glory’s throne.

Astride a colt he passes by

As loud hosannas ring,

Or else the very stones would cry, “Behold, behold your King!”

Page 41: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Verse 3:

What fading flow’rs his road adorn;

The palms, how soon laid down!

No bloom or leaf but only thorn

The King of glory’s crown.

The soldiers mock, the rabble cries. The streets with tumult ring,

As Pilate to the mob replies, “Behold, behold your King!”

Page 42: The King Comes to Us St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 23rd

Verse 4:

Now he who bore for mortals’ sake

The cross and all its pains

And chose a servant’s form to take,

The King of glory reigns.

Hosanna to the Savior’s name

Till heaven’s rafters ring,

And all the ransomed host proclaim, “Behold, behold your King!”
