I pray the worst of the Coronavirus impact on our society will have ended when you receive this newsletter. In the meantime, please remember that God is in charge, and we must trust in him and follow the guidance we are given to protect ourselves and our families and reduce the spread of this virus. The necessary business of the council will continue, our financial obligations will be met, and your Council leadership will do all we can to keep you informed about all council and public health issues and precautions. Together we will get through this with God’s guidance and protection. Please pray for each other to stay well, pray for those presently suffering with this illness, pray for protection from further infections, and offer prayers for the repose of departed souls. Faithful Navigator FN William Villegas As most of you may have heard, I am deploying to Afghanistan for a 180-day deployment. I am working hard to prepare my family and Assembly 1791 for my quick departure. Frequently asked questions about the new Fourth Degree uniform are: Will the new uniform allow the use of ceremonial swords? Yes. Ceremonial swords will continue to be part of the Fourth Degree. When swords are used, gloves should also be worn. How will rank be distinguished? Colored patches will be worn on the beret behind the Fourth Degree emblem. Supreme Master is dark blue, Vice Supreme Master is light blue, District Master is gold, Faithful Navigators will be white, District Marshals will be green and Color Corps Commanders will be purple. Those not holding office (who formerly wore red capes) will wear berets with no patch. Where can I buy the new uniform? The uniform can be purchased at knightsgear.com or by calling 1-855- GEAR-KOC (855-432-7562). Is the Order making money on the new uniform? No, the uniform is being sold at (or sometimes below) cost. Can the old regalia still be worn? No. As of July 1, 2019, only the new uniform should be worn. Was the new uniform field tested prior to its release? Yes. The new uniform was field tested by Fourth Degree members attending the Warriors to Lourdes pilgrimage. Finally, we continue to pray for the Sir Knights, Brothers and their family that are struggling with illness. We hope and pray they get on the mend. To the fallen, we pray for the repose of their souls. Financial Secretary FS Don Volz On March 17, the council mailed Knight Alert letters to 46 members with unpaid 2020 dues. If you received one of these letters, you are at risk of suspension and expulsion from the Knights of Columbus. If you are experiencing a hardship that prevents you from sending in your payment, please contact me to discuss your situation and and try to arrive at some sort of accommodation. I can be reached at: Email: [email protected], Res: 830-625-4549, Mobile: 830-822-2553. (1)

April 2020

Grand Knight’s Message GK Tony Friesenhahn As I prepare my report for this April newsletter we as a Council are suspended from all large group activities including business meetings, fish fries, bingo, fraternal meetings, large ceremonials, and any other large group activity.

Columbus Club Association SK David Schalageter, President CCA has been busy taking care of many different items at your hall. I would like to thank all the volunteers that came out the last two Saturdays to help us (shout out to the Scouts, Sts. P&P School parents and Knights who turned out to help us!) and I also want to personally thank our Interior Director Greg Tabor and Exterior Director Joe Martinez for leading us with the following: Scotch guard chair upholstery, replacing toilets & paper towel holders, power washing the exterior of the building, mowing and weeding the flower beds, repainting the flag pole, replacing the lanyard and fittings, cleaning out barn, and hauling off metal to recycle center. Stay tuned for future Saturday work parties because the work is not finished yet!

We are seeking suggestions for interior & exterior building improvements to add to our Master Plan, please send input to our operations manager's email [email protected] .

The most recent request from NBU to expand their easement on our property is being reviewed by the CCA Board. Our treasurer Terry Marini has done a wonderful job keeping us organized!!

Scholarship Committee Council 4183 customarily honors its scholarship recipients at the April fraternal meeting, which is currently scheduled for April 28, 2020. The Coronavirus Pandemic may preempt that celebration this year. If so, the council will honor its scholarship recipients later in the year, so stay tuned.

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee.

Intercede for us with your son Jesus, the Divine Physician, or those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died.

Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure.

Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who took upon himself our sufferings and carried out our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.

Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and

blessed Virgin. Amen.
