Burritos & Sausage On A Stick Sales
Brother Knights, your help is needed for Sunday May 15th for rolling burritos, selling, grilling sausage on a
stick. This is the first attempt to have a recurring fund raiser and the plan is to try this for a few months and if it
works, do it the 2nd Sunday of every month.
Cooks are starting at 5 AM. Burrito Rollers need to be in Family Center at 6 AM. It will take about 10
Knights, minimum, at that point. We will plan to start selling from 7 until we run out. We will need more
Knights from this point on. There will be 100 bags, each with 6 burritos, to sell at $5 a bag. Then there will be
200 sausages on a stick to be grilled and sold for $2 each. When its all gone, its done for the day.
The schedule is from 7 until 12:30, weather permitting, between the Church and McManus Hall. If all the
food is sold earlier it will be over at the time. But we will still be responsible for Coffee and Orange Juice until
after 11 Mass. Please come and see when and how you can help! The more Knights that come, the lighter the
load for everybody.
Thanks, Bill McMullen, Grand Knight

Prayer To End Abortion
While we may be blessed with enough food to eat there are those around us who struggle to put food on
the table. The North Dallas Shared Ministries is a local organization that provides assistance to those less
fortunate. Their Food Pantry provides food and hygiene items to over 30,000 people each year. As a way to
help out the Food Pantry, please bring non-perishable food items to the next council general meeting on
Tuesday, May 3rd. Among the items they accept are bread, tortillas, canned fruits and vegetables, breakfast
items, soups, pastas, rice, sugar, flour, baby food and diapers, laundry detergent, toothbrush and toothpaste,
shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant, sanitary napkins, and razors.

The Knights of Columbus is
an organization of Catholic men
who serve others and have fun!
We should be proud to
proclaim our faith and our
order; just as we might our
alma mater or sports team,
after all we are on the “A” team. With a K of C License
plate we proudly proclaim that
we are a Knight, a Catholic and
that America is “One Nation
under God”! Brothers we can
do all of this for a net of $8.00.
Yes a license plate will cost you
$30.00 however $22.00 of that
goes to our Infirmed Priest
Fund. Therefore we urge every
Knight and especially those of
you in Leadership positions to
purchase a license plate and tell
the world who you are.
These plates may be
purchased for automobiles or
trucks. They are also available
with the handicapped logo if
necessary. If you desire
personalized plates, they are
available for an additional $40
annually.
There is not any reason for
not having Knights of Columbus

Page 7 The Knightly News
1) Question: Is the Knights of Columbus a charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3)?
Answer: No. The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal benefit society under IRC Sec. 501(c)(8).
2) Question: Is the Knights of Columbus tax exempt?
Answer: The Knights of Columbus, as a fraternal benefit society under IRC Sec. 501(c)(8), is exempt
from most forms of income tax but not all types of income tax depending upon the type of
income. Most receipts of councils and assemblies would be exempt from income tax.
Investment income or unrelated business income would be subject to tax. See IRS instructions
for Form 990 or Form 990-EZ.
3) Question: Is the Knights of Columbus exempt from sales tax?
Answer: No. State legislatures grant state sales tax exemptions or state or local property tax
exemptions generally only to charitable organizations under IRC Section 501(c)(3). The
Knights of Columbus is not under IRC Sec. 501(c)(3), it is under IRC Section 501(c)(8).
4) Question: Are donations to the Knights of Columbus deductible?
Answer: Donations to the Knights of Columbus for fraternal or social purposes are never deductible. In
some limited instances donations for charitable purposes (not fraternal or social) might be
treated as charitable and possibly deductible under strict IRS guidelines and only by an
individual donor taxpayer, never by a non-person taxpayer or entity taxpayer, such as a
business or corporation. Use of this so called pass-through charitable donation exception
under IRC Sec. 170(c)(4) will result in additional compliance and filing requirements for the
council or assembly. See IRS instructions for Form 990, Form 990-EZ. And Schedule A (Form
990, 990-EZ, 990-PF).
