To all those who attended the Mid-Year Progress Cel-ebration at the Yacht Club on Saturday, June 25, 2011, I extend my deepest thanks. Please come back to the Yacht Club again and enjoy the new deck, the good food, and the incredible view across the water. Hopefully, the materials and reports that were prepared for you have shown our accomplishments of just a few months and have given you an idea of our goals and missions for the future. Let me also welcome you to our working meetings on the second Thursday evening of each month at the 19th Hole and to our stated meetings on the third Thursday evening, also at 7:00 p.m. at the 19th Hole. We welcome the participation of all the Lake Forest resi-dents. One of the most outstanding accomplishments of the past few months involves our Board’s working relationships with our staff, with our management company, and among the Board members themselves. The metamorphosis began with the arrival of Vision Golf and Associa-tion Management at Lake Forest. Not only did these dedicated experts lend their personal and professional skills around the clock to begin to address our problems, but they introduced other resources, enabling us to rise to higher and more efficient levels that would endure beyond the immediate board terms. One of these resources is Dr. David Dyson, a well-known and highly respected expert in board governance and organization. With his assistance, we have become an organized, united Board, where all members and their opinions are respected. Additional-ly, Dr. Dyson has worked with the Association staff. With his guidance, the staff members have become better acquainted with the Board mem-bers, and we with them. Communication and understanding among all of us has been facilitated. Staff and Board members are united in their efforts to improve our amenities and all of Lake Forest. The continuing observation, analysis, and hands-on involvement in the management of our huge association with its many facets and amenities, as well as the perception and ability to see problems and offer solutions, is typical of Vision Management. Through their efforts joined with ours, Lake Forest is being revitalized. Our community is well-served, and our future looks very positive. We look forward to a long-term relationship between Vision Golf and Association Manage-ment and the Lake Forest Property Owners Association.

General Manager's Report~ By Rob Wright, CCM, CAM ~

What a great month June was. So many great things happened.

* Over 700 members acquired pool access cards. * We set up reciprocal arrangements with other courses in the area so our members can play other clubs at a discounted rate. * We rebuilt the Yacht Club deck so that you can enjoy a beautiful sunset with dinner or drinks from the deck. * We touched up around the play ground area at the Yacht Club so that kids have an active place to play while the adults enjoy the deck. * We renovated nine bunkers and six tee boxes on the golf course. * We reworked the area north of the Swim and Racquet playground so that it’s better and a safer place for kids. * Our ladies 3.0 BATA tennis team won their league. * Then to top it off, our June 25th mid year progress day was outstanding. Besides the dignitaries and special guests, we had a great turn-out by own- ers who are starting to believe again in Lake Forest. June was a great month, now let’s make July even better.

Don't be confused....but it happens to the best of us~ By Marie Bidney, Yacht Club/Marina Chair ~

One of the most confusing parts of living in Lake Forest is the homeowners gold membership card. It's used to show you are a member of Lake Forest Yacht and Country Club and as a member you can use the pools, the tennis courts, the golf facili-ties, take full advantage of the Yacht Club's food and beverage service, launch your boat at no charge, and you have in house charging privileges here in Lake Forest if you are in good standing. However, it your card does not make you, as a homeowner in Lake Forest, have access to any of the 33 yacht clubs in the Gulf Yachting As-sociation that are located along the Gulf Coast including those local clubs such as Fairhope Yacht Club, Bucaneer Yacht Club, and Mobile Yacht Club. The reason that I bring this up is that I have been notified by these other Clubs that homeowners are using their facilities and trying to use

the Lake Forest Gold Membership card to charge their food and beverage. I want you to know that you will be turned away. In order to have this priviledge of using these other yacht clubs, you must join a yacht club that belongs to the Gulf Yachting Association, such as the Lake Forest Yacht Club, Inc., which is the boating organiza-tion that uses the Yacht Club building. You as property owners can come down and use Lake Forest Yacht Club as often as you like but you must belong to LFYCI or any of the other 32 privately owned yacht clubs in order to have the priviledge of enjoying their facilities. Please be aware of this in your travels.

Architectural Report ~ By Stacey Johnston ~

KAT HOUSE

Lawn Maintenance

We’ve all noticed the occasional property that has let its land-scaping get to the point where tall weeds and overgrown bushes seem to be the only features on the lot, and it is safe to assume that we can all agree that it makes the property and the neighborhood unattractive. But tall grass and weeds aren’t just unsightly they are a serious hazard and offer a place for snakes, rodents and other pests to live. To reduce this risk, lawns should be kept mowed and all yard waste such as dry grass, cut tree limbs and brush should be disposed of properly. A well-maintained yard is also an effective crime prevention tool. Lawns that are not cared for give criminals the impression the property is unattended and might be an easy target. Lake Forest residents are responsible for maintaining the grass and landscape on their property. This includes the front, back and sides of a yard. Grass and weeds need to be trimmed and to prevent them from growing too high. Driveways, walkways, and street curbs need to be edged and swept regularly. Bushes need to be trimmed and pruned. Please be a good neighbor and keep your yard attrac-tive. Reporting of Resident Concerns

Please don’t hesitate to call the Architectural Department to report a problem that you may see in your neighborhood. I will as-sist you to the best of my ability in getting your concern addressed. You can call me at 621-4721 or email me at [email protected].

Lake Forest Women's Club~ By Connie Mahoney, President ~

The Lake Forest Com-munity Women's Club held their final meeting of the year on May 19, 2011 at the Yacht Club with in-stallation of new officers followed by a luncheon. President Connie Mahoney thanked this year's Board and Committee Members for their service and pre-sented each with a gift of appreciation. Club accomplishments of note for our community this year were: Donation's of $300 to Prodisee Pantry, $200 to Women Helping Women, and $100 to the Daphne Fire Department. At Christmastime, club members put together gift packages and donated them to Mercy Medical and Women Helping Women. Parliamentarian Dino Salmi conducted the installation of new officers and presented each woman with a beautiful large sunflower. Sunflowers are considered symbols of loyalty and power. We will use this flower to symbolize the Lake Forest Community Women's Club as we look forward to a new year, starting September 19. Hope to see you all there. The Women's Club is a fun way to meet new friends and visit with the old. Ladies, do not forget our ongoing fund raiser, "The Aprons." We now have them stock. Use them in the kitchen or when you are gar-dening. Call Connie Mahoney at 604-7896 to order.

Club officers are L-R: Wanda Patterson-Corresponding Secretary, Anne Talton- Secretary, Mary Taulbee-Treasurer,Carol Willis-2nd Vice President, Cookie White- 1st. Vice President. and Connie Mahoney President

Patriotic Flag Disposal Hughes Cremation and Fu-neral Service is asking Eastern Shore residents who want to dispose of tattered American Flags to donate them to honor U.S. Military Veter-ans. Members of the community are invited to bring their old flags to the funeral home at 7951 American Way, in Daphne, between the hours of 9 and 5 p.m. Or they can be picked up by calling 621-5890. "According to the U.S. Code, Title 4, Section 8, the Flag, when it is in such condition that

it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by

burning. Destroying the flag by burning assures that it will not be left in a garbage can," Hughes said. For each veteran cremated, a flag of our country will accompany the veteran. Hughes said, "We feel that by doing this, both the deceased veteran and he retired flag are treated

in the most patriotic way. It's our hope that every veteran gets to be cremated with an American Flag."

IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE ~ By Kay Wineman ~

I am so excited to see the wonderful work being done in Lake Forest. Between the City of Daphne and Vision Management, Lake Forest is being giv-en a “face lift.” The new roads, with landscaped medians, are prettier than I ever dreamed they would be. All our amenities have been upgraded and are more user friendly. Swimming pools are free, so that is REALLY user friendly! The Improvement Committee is now look-ing, for other ways, to help make our community better than ever. We started the Neighborhood Watch program several years ago. Carolyn Reid

has, for years, gathered information concerning police activity in Lake Forest. It is printed monthly in the Lake Forester. At one time, we had block captains assigned to all areas of Lake Forest to report suspicious activity. We no longer have enough volunteers to do that but we are asking everyone to do ONE thing. If you see something that you think is suspicious, call 626-9100. That is the Daphne Police Depart-ment and they will come and investigate. Several break-ins have been stopped when residents have called Daphne Police when they saw some-thing unusual. After the street repair and repaving is complete, at the North Entrance, we will build the new marquee sign. The Im-provement Committee already has the bricks and that sign will mirror the other directional signs throughout Lake Forest. It will look so much nicer!! Covenant Compliance enforcement has also been a passion of the Im-provement Committee. LFPOA has hired a person to help locate proper-ties and their owners who violate our covenants. We need to speak to our city officials and city council members that represent Lake Forest. Five of the seven city council districts include areas of Lake Forest. Many viola-tions are also City of Daphne code violations. Let’s have a zero tolerance for cars parked in the medians, boats and trailers on driveways, and other violations that detract from the beauty of our neighborhood. Our next meeting will be July 12th. That is not our usual meeting date but members if the Improvement Committee need to attend a City Council meeting scheduled on our normal meeting date of July 5th. We meet at 6:30 PM, in the 19th Hole.

Always Remember to Say SomethingGood About Lake Forest Today!

Nestled along the upper part of Mobile Bay on the Eastern Shore is a cozy yacht club and marina called the Lake Forest Yacht Club. The Yacht Club is a private club belonging to the community of Lake Forest but not too many know it is open to the public for ban-quets, business meet-ings, lunches, and we can cater to any event that the guest wishes. Our reliable staff can accommodate parties from 12 to 225 in our spacious dining room and with access to our newly built deck. We ensure that our guests have a very enjoyable event and done with the utmost care and reliability One of the great advantages of Lake Forest Yacht Club is that it is one of the few res-taurants in Daphne that has Bayfront dining. Mother Nature provides us with beautiful sunsets that can be seen from the deck, with the City of Mobile in the distance. Waterlife adds to the enjoyment of our harbor with the occasional alligator passing by. For that “early call” meeting, our catering staff can prepare the most delicious breakfasts

on the Eastern Shore...beginning with a good steaming cup of coffee and an array of break-fast items. Our lunch menus offer a variety of entrées from Seafood Paella to Turkey Pot Pie and they come with a choice of fruit or house

salad, vegetable, and rolls. Buffets are also avail-able, such as The Slice featuring slices of Roast Beef, Turkey, or Ham; the Italian Buffet that includes a hearty Anti-pasto Salad, Lasagna, and

Chicken Parmesan; and the Eagle Buffet that in-cludes sliced Hot Turkey, Roasted Chicken Breasts with a Garlic Orange sauce, O’Brien potatoes, and Broccoli au Gratin. Desserts are offered such as the Triple Chocolate Cake, Florida Key Lime Pie and the specialty Pecan Ball, which is creamy vanilla ice cream rolled in pecans and dropped into a hot, choco-late fudge sauce. It was a hot Saturday June 25th, but the excitement at the Yacht Club was overwhelming. City and state dignataries were there, Lake Forest Board members were present, and a host of LFPOA members and special guests were there to enjoy hearing the accom-plishments made over the last six months with Vision Golf Management at our side. Roman Street Duo played that afternoon on the deck and the party kept going into the evening with Brit-tany Grimes. Many thanks to those on the staff, the amenities, and others that helped with the organization of this event and we must thank Home Depot for their contribu-tion of plants for the deck. See more pics and infor-mation on the website at: www.lakeforestpoa.com.

The Golf Shop By Paul Johnson, PGA, Head Golf Professional

Summer is here and the heat does not seem to be stopping! If you have been outside lately, you know how dense the humidity is each and every day. Right now, the golf course is thriving because Bermuda grass grows in hot, humid days and nights. I love my climate controlled environment, but Bermuda grass loves it. The course is going through several improvements, like, the Lake 9 course is closed in until Fall because of the greens' improvements we are doing. Several other course projects are being finalized to improve the course for you and your guests. So bring out a friend and play golf! The Golf Shop would like to remind everyone that the golf cart paths are not walking or riding paths. The golf course is only for paying golf participants. Our staff is taking a more aggressive ap-proach to people who are walking, running, walking their dogs, or riding their bicycle or four-wheeler on the course. I ask for your cooperation in staying off of the course. Just as you expect good ser-vice when you go out to eat at a restaurant, or players on the course have paid money and expect a good course and service while playing golf. The interruption of non-golfers on the course will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. If you live on the golf course, please call the Daphne Police Department to report trespassers exact loca-tion. In the last three months, the golf shop has summoned the police department 19 times and I have been bitten by a dog, which required medical attention. I ask for your cooperation and under-standing. Thank you!

Grand Point

Your Tennis Tip ~ By Mike Abrecht

To increase power on your forehand, make sure

your shoulders are rotating through the

shot. You can accom-plish this by start-ing to rotate the shoulder at just the

right time. When your racquet is back

and the moment it starts to move forward, start rotat-

ing your left shoulder (if your right handed) forward and through the shot. What happens lots of time is that our shoulders rotate but they are not in sync with the arm, so doing this allows everything to start rotating at the right time.

On Tennis ~ By Mike Albrecht Lake Forest ladies 3.0 BATA Champions

The Lake Forest ladies 3.0 night time BATA team became the Mobile and Eastern shore area champions. The team, lead by captain Stacy Johnston, pulled out a 3-2 victory over Oakwood Swim and Racquet club. The match was played Monday June 6th. Each BATA match requires that four courts of doubles be played. You get a point for each doubles match you win and then another point

for winning the most overall games. Lake Forest was ahead 2-1 while the last match was playing their 3rd set. We needed to win the 3rd set in order to pull off a team win, and we did !!!! It came to be nail biting, nervous, dra-matic ending to a well anticipated two month season. The ladies worked hard all season long and will bring home the 3.0 BATA banner to hang at the Racquet Club.

PRO SOUND

Jr. Golf ~ By Paul Johnson Hot! Hot! Hot! Our juniors are “tearing up the links” with great im-provement and better scores. As our program is slowing down for our summer semester, we are preparing for a huge kick-off beginning in September. Don’t take my word for it. Here are a few testimonials… "It’s hard to know where to start with the ASWING Junior Golf program. First off you have Coach Paul who is great with the kids and always strive to make the program better. He not only focuses on mak-ing great golfer but also instills a sense of responsibility and learn-ing in his program. And to make it even better the Golf program is great about hosting tournaments and clinics for the kids on a regular basis. So you actually get to put what you have learned on the course." - The Perry Family "The golf program at Lake Forest has truly been a blessing to our family. Our children Peyton and Ivy have enjoyed working with Coach Paul. We moved here in April 2010 from Prattville, Alabama. Our son Peyton, took golf in Prattville at what we thought was an excellent program. As good as it was though, Paul's program is so much better in so many ways. Coach Paul has an individualized plan for each child. No two children are the same in growth and ability and he makes sure they are taught on their level. Your child may be in a class with sev-eral others but they are all learning at different speeds. Coach Paul is very good with the children and they have a blast. To have a good golf game, it is not just about swinging the club, it also involves strength, balance, and motivation. This program combines all of the aspects to make the end result well-rounded. We appreciate everything Paul does and consider ourselves fortunate to be a part of this outstanding pro-gram." -- Jeff and Karyn Lindsey To learn more about the ASWING Junior Golf Program at Lake Forest and to get your son or daughter involved, contact Coach Paul at 626-9324 or visit www.JuniorGolfGuy.com today!
