The New Look ofYour Facebook Fan Page
Let’s take it from the top.
The Cover Photo
Cover Photo Stats851x315 pixels (will be sized to fit)
DO: create major eye candy that represents your brand – without mentioning the brand or featuring a logo
DON’T: feature coupons, promotions, advertising, price or purchase information, contact info, or landing page-y calls to action (ex. “Like”). These are against Facebook’s new page rules. And don’t use a photo that doesn’t belong to you.
The Profile Picture
Profile Picture StatsWhen seen alongside the cover photo, the
profile picture will appear as 180x180 pixels. Elsewhere (as seen later in the timeline and in your fans’ newsfeeds), the profile picture will be a much smaller 32x32 pixels.
Make the picture literally represent your brand – a logo or your face if you’re famous enough.
Facebook will default your current page profile pic here if you don’t upload anything.
Views and Apps
Views and Apps SpecsThese take the place of the “tabs” on the left
hand side of your old pages.
Up to four view/apps will appear on your page
The photo tab is the default first tab. You can customize the order of the other three. Make them ones people will be interested in.
Fans can see up to 8 more apps from a drop-down menu at the right hand side of the fourth view/app. (But maybe you don’t need that many apps – think about it.)
Pinned Post
Pinned Post SpecsSimilar to a “sticky post” on a blog – but time-
bombed
A great way to highlight a nice visual, time-sensitive message, or highly engaged post
You can only pin one post at a time
You must change the pinned post 1x/week – or Facebook will unpin that post and put it back in the timeline
Starred Post
Starred Post SpecsYou can star as many posts as you’d like
These posts go the width of the page
Great to display posts with horizontal photos or long, meaningful fan comments
An aside: I’d rather call these “wide” or “long” posts.
Milestone Post
Milestone SpecsAdd as many as you’d like
Milestones should include a photo, date, and name/title
Photo takes up the width of the page, so think horizontal
Once you’ve fancified your page,
smile.
Then keep in mind …
…that this page
is really geared toward
first-time visitors.
After fans decide to
like your page,
nearly all their interaction with you
will be through their news feed.
So might this also
be a good time to
give your news feed posts a
whole new look?
