ROTARY PLEDGE I do solemnly promise to help advance the Object of Rotary, comply with the Constitution and By-Laws of Rotary International and of the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong ever putting into practice Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self”.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST Is it the TRUTH? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY The OBJECT of ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recogni-tion of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying of each Ro-tarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life. FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

DECLARATIONS OF ROTARINS IN BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS

As a Rotarian engaged in business or profession I am expected to:

1. CONSIDER my vocation to be another opportunity to serve.

2. BE FAITHFUL to the letter and the spirit of the ethical codes

of my vocation, to the laws of my country, and to the moral

standards of my community.

3. DO ALL in my power to dignify my vocation and to promote

the highest ethical standards in my chosen profession.

4. BE FAIR to my employer, employees, associates, competitors,

customers, the public and all those with whom I have a business

or professional relationship.

5. RECOGNIZE the honor and respect due to all occupations

which are useful to society.

6. OFFER my vocational talents to provide opportunities for

Thank you, Father,

for the gift of Rotary and each other.

we give thanks for the pleasure of gathering

together for this occasion.

We give thanks for this food prepared

by loving hands.

We give thanks for life, the freedom to enjoy it all,

and all other blessings.

As we partake of this food, we pray for health and

strength to carry on and try to live as You would have

us. This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly

Father.

Amen.

Hello all and my warm wishes for a Happy New

Year!

Welcome to our first meeting of the year. As I am

travelling at the moment, a big thank-you goes out to

PE John for running this meeting, and to Sec. Edwin

for representing our club at tomorrow’s BCP break-

fasts meeting.

It was indeed a busy December for our club. Kudos goes to the

spouses’ committee for a well-organized and fun-filled club Christmas

party, and to PP Diony , PP Andy, PP Rolf, and PP Tony for a fulfilling

traditional RCM gift-giving at the archbishop’s palace. Did you know

we distributed over 200 packets at that event? Thank you too to CP

Mila and PP Tony for inviting our club to participate at the RCGM gift-

giving held at the Greenhills Shopping Center, and for the additional

soccer balls and shirts we gave out at our event. It was truly heartwarm-

ing to contribute during the season of giving.

December also saw the launch of our DRAP project with the Philippine

Red Cross, which aims to provide 34 Public Schools and 27 Manda-

luyong barangays with the ability to prepare for and respond to calami-

ties. Together with the Mandaluyong Red Cross branch, PP Albert and

myself are working out the budgets and logistics as we speak, and I can

write more about this project in forthcoming issues. We are joined in

this project by most Mandaluyong-based RC clubs, and this is envi-

sioned to be a two-year program.

As I reflect back on the past 6 months of this Rotary year, I am amazed

at how much our club has done. To date, we have mentored foreign

students, heard speakers on K-12 reform and maternal and child care,

participated in two medical missions and one dental mission, conducted

and participated in two gift-giving events for the less fortunate, spon-

sored a new club, appeared in a TV program and adopted a “wish ko

lang” child, helped test the concepts of urban gardening, built a kitchen

for MPNAG, hosted foreign delegations, extended a hand of friendship

to our sister clubs, helped organize the District Youth Expo, partici-

pated in three global grants, examined how we can be of help to people

with disabilities (PWDs) and the blind, and generally extended support

to our district events. PP Rolf gifted his son with a Paul Harris fellow-

ship, while PP Nap is in the process of doing something somewhat

similar. Our Facebook page has grown from zero to 134 regular follow-

ers, and our posting reach has gone from zero to a high of 251 people in

December. We did all this amongst the camaraderie and fellowship

that characterizes our club.

As we look forward to the next six months, we still hope to activate our

last-mile funding program for students, implement our speaker series,

close out our MPNAG kitchen program, begin our DRAP project, re-

cruit members to grow our club, and maintain our 100% EREY and

sustaining member status. By doing so, we can truly remain one of the

strongest clubs in the district and I know we can do it!

With these in mind, we do have a lot going on as we strive to “LIGHT

UP ROTARY” in the final stretch of this Rotary year. Do keep in step

by checking http://bit.ly/rcmanda for our facebook page, http://bit.ly/

rcmcalendar for our calendar, or http://bit.ly/rcmmag for our Magdalo

issues.

Cheers and a happy new year to all of us!

Happy new year to all fellow Rotarians.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish every

one of us a fruitful new year ahead and more good

health.

Since our beloved President is on leave today, I have the honor to con-

duct our first meeting of the year.

Looking at all the activities line up in the beginning of this year, I know

immediately that this will be a colourful and exciting year ahead for all

our club officers and Rotarians alike. I do hope that those who were

busy last year can be more active this year in joining our various activi-

ties to experience the joy of being a true Rotarian in rendering services

to his community and helping others selflessly.

In the same token, being your humble treasurer, I would also like to

request that all of us settle our obligation early this year without the

reminders of our secretariat. It is an important step to take in showing

your support to our club. Considering the fact that there are still a sig-

nificant number of our members still haven’t settle their dues since last

year, more concrete steps will be taken in our collection efforts in the

coming weeks to ensure that our club activities will be sufficiently

funded.

Let’s enjoy the prestige of being a Rotarian in our club and show the

other club why we are one of the best club in our district.

TIE A YELLOW RIBBON

I'm comin' home, I've done my time

Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine

If you received my letter tellin' you I'd soon be free

Then you'll know just what to do if you still want me

If you still want me

CHORUS:

Tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree

It's been three long years

Do you still want me?

If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree

I'll stay on the bus

Forget about us

Put the blame on me

If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree

Bus driver, please look for me

'Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see

I'm really still in prison, and my love she holds the key

A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free

I wrote and told her this:

REPEAT CHORUS

Now the whole damn bus is cheering

And I can't believe I see

A hundred yellow ribbons 'round the old oak tree

I'm comin' home
