If you’ve ever been treated at a Health First hospital, you’ve been touched in some way by a nurse. They are on the job 24/7 monitoring vital signs, cleaning wounds, running tests, offering reassuring hugs to patients and their families and much more.

Nurses go through rigorous training and education, and as new technology and medical advancements are introduced, they must update their skills and knowledge. To assist with this effort the Health First Foundation established The Means/Garrison Endowment for Nursing Excellence, a portfolio of funds invested for perpetuity with earned interest used for nursing education. The endowment honors the two leaders who established Health First—Mike Means and Larry Garrison—and their commitment to nurse education and training.

Proceeds from the 2012 Golf Classic will be dedicated to the nursing endowment to help grow it and ensure adequate funds are available each year for nursing education and programs.

This special charitable fund will help Health First and its network of four area hospitals create a comprehensive and innovative nursing environment promoting clinical excellence and patient-centered quality care.

At Health First, one out of every four associates—nearly 1,800 people—works in nursing, whether in the clinical setting of our hospitals, in one of our many outpatient services, one of our physician offices, and more. Depending on the location, the skills, training and specialized certification levels will vary, but there are on-going educational needs at every post.

The comfort and care nurses provide put them front and center in your health care. To ensure our community has a nursing team with the credentials and expertise needed to care for you and your family both today and in the future, your support is vital.
