Merry Christmas! That has a
wonderful ring to it! But, in reality, our
minds are not set in the Christmas
mode yet. We love Christmas, the
warm feelings, the well-spoken Christ-
mas Carols, the fellowship, Christmas
Cards, Christmas parties, and the giv-
ing to others — all celebrating Jesus’
birth. All of these are part of our
Christmas traditions and celebrations.
The primary focus is on Jesus, and
his birth. We spend time at Christmas rehearsing our beliefs for our chil-
dren to learn and to accept for themselves. We tell the birth story over-
and-over again. Children learn the story and then tell it to others.
That is the system God/Jesus had in mind to help people
remember Jesus and to identify Jesus with
salvation, love, care, joy, and comfort.
The Christmas Story reminds us that Jesus came to earth for us!
We want to acknowledge it, and become involved in telling the story our-
selves. It is disheartening to understand the number of people who have
not heard of Jesus. They have a shallow understanding of the purpose of
living, and the intense commitment God has made to humanity. As
Christians we are called to share the Good News with them!
Christmas in July:
So, how do we get people excited about Christmas in July? De-
partment stores, restaurants, and some other businesses have found a
great way. They call it “Christmas in July” and for them it is the purchas-
ing of merchandise they are selling that is important. For us as Chris-
tians, there is a wonderful window here. We are accepting gifts for this
Christmas in July on July 30. The money and gifts received will all be
stored until December, and then our “team” comes to life and purchases,
wraps, and sets up delivery routes so the presents for each individual in
every family are organized.
Christmas in July is a great concept. Instead of having one more

DIGITAL NEWSLETTER
The United States Postal Service has made changes to the cost and amount of bulk mailings, thus we have stopped bulk mailing ‘The Messenger’. We will be emailing a digital copy to every email address we have on record. If you are unable to receive it via email or pick it up, please call the office, 637-4413, and we will mail one to you. Thank you!
group of people at your door in December seeking money and gifts for
the less fortunate, we try to collect gifts and money now, and make
Christmas happen for others in December. Please join us in collecting
funds that will be used for our Christmas Families 2017.
Summer is a time when we see work done around the church.
New windows have been installed in the Women’s and Men’s bath-
rooms on the main floor of the church. Renovation will take place in
both bathrooms in late summer or early fall. The Church parking lot
has been fixed at the entrance, it has been sealed throughout, and
lined for handicap parking.
I am sure you read about the Scholarships that have been
awarded through our church to worthy students from our congregation.
It is a blessing to have resources that will help college students grow
and mature into responsible adults, who will live their faith and follow
God’s call for their lives.
As we travel through summer, I hope you will carry with you one
of the coupons for UNO’s. Between now and September 10, each
time you eat at UNO’s if you give them the coupon, they will keep track
and then give us a gift that equals 20% of each and every purchase
made at UNO’s in Fayetteville. This is a great way to raise money for
our mission ministries. Please take advantage of this easy way to pro-
vide a powerful mission ministry in Fayetteville and throughout the
world.
Fall is rapidly approaching, and it will be a time of gathering
people together and sharing the Good News in all that we do. In late
September, the pumpkins that were planted in spring will be brought to
the church for sale. Hopefully we will be able to expand our missions
through this sale and other opportunities. The annual Pumpkin Sale is
always a good time at the Church.
Enjoy these summer days, and I look forward to seeing you in
worship each Sunday!
Blessings,
Bob

4th Annual
Yard Sale a
Great Success! Things were bustling on Saturday,
June 3rd, on the grounds of FUMC with many sellers and enthusiastic
customers looking for good deals. 45 spaces (and 10 tables) were rent-
ed, Chef Mel’s hot dog stand was a popular spot (selling 85 hot dogs, 32
coneys, 48 hamburgers and many drinks!), Outreach took care of a
busy table and the UMW’s bake sale and crafts tables did very well. We
took in $685.00, which was split between the UMW and Finance. Thank
you everyone for your enthusiastic participation. Start setting aside your
stuff for next year’s Yard Sale!
Metal for Mission
As of June 2017, Harry Gill has collected
more than $600 from your scrap metal donations.
The funds raised are used for Mission. If you have any metal items that
you are considering donating or taking to the recycling center, please let
Harry know. For more information, contact Harry Gill at 315-278-1380, or
EAT, DRINK & RAISE MONEY!
UNO “Dough Raiser” UNO’s Restaurant at Fayetteville Towne Center has graciously extended its fund raising offer to Fayetteville Unit-ed Methodist Church throughout the summer, from July 1 to Sept. 10.
Coupons, which you will need to pre-sent to your server, are located in the Narthex. UNO will donate up to 20% of your check to FUMC. Nice!
TO ALL CHURCH MEMBERS: As we all enjoy the warm and sunny days of summer, fun at the beach and on picnics with friends and fami-ly, and the beauty of God’s creation like the Adirondacks, oceans, blossoming trees and colorful flowers — also re-member the beauty of our Church and the friendship we enjoy praising God. Let us not forget that the Church’s operating expenses still have to be paid in the sum-mer. It is our hope you will continue to bring your pledges to Church. We look for-ward to singing and praying with you!
Thank you! PLEDGE STATEMENTS Detailed statements of giving for the period January through June of 2017 are available for anyone who made a pledge to FUMC for 2017. These state-ments can be picked up on Sunday morning in ther Narthex through the end of July. Those remaining in August will be mailed.

Summer Mission Opportunities From the OUTREACH COMMITTEE:
Blankets: First, A BIG THANK YOU to ALL who supported our requests for Blankets through CWS (Church World Service) during May: Funds you con-tributed will purchese 167 Blan-kets for Disaster relief in critical parts of the world! That's great! Look in the Narthex for the small blanket displaying patches received from CMS showing the latest blanket gifts over some of the years. Sandwiches: We continue to gather the last Saturday morning per month at 10:00 am to make sandwiches and add cookies to deliver to the Samaritan Center for homeless people. Your gifts of peanut butter, jam (needed most) and cookies provide good energy in various ways! Please let Beth Savery (315-682-1509; [email protected]) know if you can make 3 or 4 dozen cookies to add to our delivery each month. Hunger is still around in the summer for people served at the Samaritan Center. Refugee Resettlement: InterFaith Works is receiving limited numbers of special families to this area. (The largest family has 7 children.) Could you provide a few small personal items, such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, soap, toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant, faminine hgygiene pads or diapers (all sizes)? We will soon have a box in the Narthex for your gifts. Prescription Bottles: Do you have used pill bottles from drugs that you would like to recycle? We are partnering with UMW to gather these dur-ing the summer for use overseas. We have learned that clinics in other countries often do not have bottles for individual, monthly doses. Please save such bottles (with caps). However, please REMOVE LABELS (soaking in hot water helps). A box is now available in the Narthex to leave your clean bottles. RETURNABLE Bottles and Cans: We need water and soda bottles (marked for NY) and soda cans (also marked NY). NO Tea or unmarked items, please. These can also be place in a box in the Narthex, or taken to FM Returnables at 202 West Seneca St, in Manlius. (Note: Remember to tell staff at FM Returnables to credit your deposit to Fayetteville United Methodist Church. That service will send a check to our church quarter-ly.) Proceeds will assist our Mission projects. Such gifts, with God's help, are spreading hope and life to many places,

Flood Response Special Offering
United Methodist Connection responds to the recent
devastating flooding in Upper New York. Bishop Mark J.
Webb calls out for prayers and special offerings.
Bishop Webb reports, “Over the last several weeks, severe weather has
caused significant flash flooding in several communities throughout Up-
per New York. Communities within the Mohawk District have been the
most severely impacted. Residents of 300 homes have had to evacuate.
Seventeen homes were completely destroyed and another 217 homes
have had their heating systems compromised. Our Conference Disaster
Response Coordinator has reported that our Emergency Response
Team has already offered 185 hours of work on the ground, with more to
come this weekend; and long-term recovery efforts are being evaluated.
I invite you to join me in praying for those affected by these most
recent floods, as well as share in an opportunity for the United Methodist
Church in Upper New York to once again be a shining light, offering
God’s love and compassion. I am asking you to consider taking a special
offering at your local church over the next few weekends or make an in-
dividual donation. Checks may be sent to the Conference Office, 7481
Henry Clay Blvd. Liverpool, NY 13088, with “2017 storms # 474” written
in the memo line (Ed. Note: or given here at FUMC with Floods CNY in
the memo line).
One of the amazing things about being United Methodist is our
connectional system. Though our connection, we can support people
around the country and throughout the world in their times of need. This
time, it is individuals and families in our own Con-
ference who need our help. Thank you for being a
part of that connection.”
Fayetteville United Methodist Church has al-
ready responded with an offering made during
the Sunday, July 23rd worship service of close
to $500! Thank you for your compassion and
generosity.
Prayed Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shael Ministry will not be meeting during July
and August. However, we do realize that joys, illnesses and
sorrows don’t take a vacation. If you find there is a need for
a prayer shawl during the summer, please do not hestate to
call Cora Reals at 315-656-2252.
