The Pastor Search Team is now scheduling our second round of Skype interviews with can-didates. Before we get to the latter stages of the search process, we feel it is important to do this second round of interviews with the candidates to discuss in more detail what a pastorate at Roser might look like.

The Search Team is very aware that we are at a time of great change in the life of Roser Church. Changes within the congregation, within our community, and within our society are all impacting - and will continue to impact - the life of our church. We feel that it is very important to take the time to find the best person to pastor

Roser Church in the challenging years ahead. We are currently talking to five candidates. We expect that after this next round of interviews those who are not truly interested in the position will withdraw their applications. We can then focus on the remaining candidates and finally recommend one candidate for the position.

Just as a reminder about the process, once the Search Team is ready to recommend one person, we will report our findings to the Board of Deacons for final screening and recommending of their choice for the position to the Council for approval. I have used the wording for this process found on page 8 of the By-Laws so that we all understand the steps in the final selection.

Times of change and transition are not easy and it is understandable that the church wants to move on from the transition phase as quickly as possible. The Search Team, however, is committed to taking the time needed to make sure that when a pastor is called to Roser Church, that person is the best person for the position. Roser Church and its congregation deserve nothing less.

We continue to ask for your prayers as we search for a new pastor.

Christ is the visible image of the invis-ible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and au-thorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.

Colossians 1:15-16 (NLT)

My parents worked a lot. Before they owned their own business, my dad worked as a machinist and my mom

worked on an assembly line at a electronics manufactur-ing company. So family vacations were usually a day trip to Disney World or a quick weekend trip to go visit family in Atlanta. But however quick the trip or drive, before my dad put the car in gear he would always say a prayer be-fore we left. He prayed for safety for the trip, thanksgiving for the opportunity for our family to go places together, and the ability to be able to spend time as a family. Every trip we took as a family I remember because it meant so much to me. What I also remember about each trip was that my parents showed me the importance of having a relationship with God in Jesus Christ, and taking him with you wherever you go; even on vacation.

Now that summer is here, many of us will take the time to go on a trip: to visit family, to go to our ritual summer hangouts, to visit new places (and even new cultures), or just do a “stay-cation” and just take a break from our busy lives.

This summer, my wife and I are taking our family to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. We’ll be hiking, rock-hopping, riding the train in Conway, and enjoying time together…making memories together. Another thing we’ll be doing is giving thanks to God for the time we can spend together as a family and worshipping together while we take in God’s creation. We also take the time to worship together at a local church when we can, or just worship as a family wherever we are. We also teach our kids to look for God in different places: in the mountains, the streams that flow, the tall trees that grow into the blue sky, and all the animals that God created.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that Jesus Christ is the “visible image of the invisible God. He existed before any-thing was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth” (Colossians 1:15-16 NLT). So wherever we go (the mountains of New Hampshire, the lakes of Michi-gan, floating down the Rhine, the cobblestones streets of Ireland, or even walking on the beach of Anna Maria Island) we can see not only the creation of God, but also

the fingerprints of Jesus Christ imprinted in life and cre-ation all around us. And it’s Christ that not only connects us with God, but also connects us with God’s creation around us and the Church, as the Body of Christ.

So you can go to the ends of the earth, but take Jesus Christ with you. You can do this several ways. Take time to pray. Pray for your trip, pray for your friends and family back home or those with you on the trip, and pray before meals. You can even make it a family affair. Gather everyone together to give thanks for the day, the fun you had, and even for the great meals. Pack your Bible and a journal. Spend time each day in the Word of God with daily devotions (we have two devotionals available in the sanctuary and church office: The Upper Room and Our Daily Bread), and spend time writing in a journal about ways you experienced God in your day, prayers that you are lifting up to God, or thoughts about your time away. Look for examples of God’s goodness and beauty during your travels and point them out to your family. Help your family remember God while away by remaining aware of His creations and blessings and always giving Him the credit. You can visit places of worship (churches, cathedrals, etc.) at your vacation destination, and make it a point to attend a worship ser-vice while you are away. It could make your time away a more blessed time. Be open to sharing your faith in Jesus Christ with others. This could be done by just striking up a conversation with the waitress, hotel clerk, or even the person sitting next to you on the airplane. It could be just showing the love of Jesus Christ to the people you run into. Ask God to help you always stay

aware of opportunities to share. And finally, don’t forget to keep connected to Roser Church. Connect with us on Facebook, and let us know where you are experiencing God while you are away. You can also send prayer requests via our website, and keep con-nected through email with our e-prayer list so you can pray for others. You can also con-tinue to give financially while you are away. Sometimes the last thing we think about is sending our tithe or offering to the church, especially while you’re on vacation or away

for the summer. You can give online with your checking account or with your credit card through our website, or just send your tithe or offering to the church through the mail. God’s work through the ministry of Roser Church continues on even while you are away and even through the summer. So we appreciate your prayers and support even while you are away.

All those times my family spent time on trips together were very special to me, and I have wonderful memories that I cherish. I pray that we all can have memories with our friends and family that we can enjoy and treasure. I strive for that in my time with my family. And I pray that God will bless us all as we go out to experience all that He has created, and all that He has blessed us with.

Roser Guild Officers, Margo Kingsley, Mary Seine and Peggy Nash presented a check for $1,000 to Dawn Stiles of the AMI Community Center. Donations to and sales at the Roser Guild Thrift Shop make it possible for the Guild to support more than twelve local charities, in addition to giving eight college scholarships this year.

Many, many thanks to all who donate nice things and have volunteered

to help at the Thrift Shop. We expect to be able to stay open thru June and July as long as volunteers are available to help. To volunteer this month please sign up at the shop and call JoAnne Moyer 941-301-8340 or 215-908-0407. Above: Edie LeCroy and Joan Gray volun-teering in the shop!

manned by David Cheshire!

Thanks to the ladies in the Guild Migrant Sewing circle who have 154 quilts completed and 25 layettes in the cabinet ready to be taken to the Migrant Tea in November. Lynda Stringer plans to be bringing more layettes when she returns in the fall.

Thanks to Margo Kingsley who shopped for the bags of preschool supplies for the migrant

children. Each bag contains 2 pencils, 1 eraser, highlighter, marker, scissor, ruler, box of crayons, coloring book, writing tablet, wire notebook, and 28 pieces of construction paper.

Thanks to the girls who helped package and box them too. Kate Hoffman, Migrant Coordinator for Manatee, sent a thank you note (see bulletin board) and a person to pick them up. She said they really appreciate the supplies at this time, as they were out of them and

migrant families are arriving now. She also extended an invitation for us to visit the migrant center.

Thank you to Ann Jones and the Guild Scholarship Committee, who really had some very difficult deci-sions to make this year, as there were seven new applicants for two available scholarships. Five of them are a part of the Roser Church fam-ily. Roser Guild gives scholarships of $1,000 per year to the school for full time students who must keep a 2.75 average and apply every year. Congratulations to all the winners, and our regrets to those we could not help this year.

From Sandra Holley, president of Church Women United in Manatee County, came this thank you: Church Women United blessed hundreds of “Little Souls” over the past week!!

We distributed over 200 pairs of shoes to the following school sites: Ballard Elementary, Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary, Manatee Elementary, Palmetto Elementary, Increasing Joy VPK School and Com-munity Outreach Nursery School. Below: Shoes being distributed at Community Outreach Nursery School.

The Roser Memorial Women’s Guild is pleased to award 2014-2015 Scholarships of $1,000 each to Konstantina Lardas and Chelsea Perez.

Each scholarship is renewable providing a minimum 2.75 grade is achieved and they reapply. Konstantina will be attending Florida International Univer-sity and majoring in marine biology. Chelsea will be attending the University of Central Florida and majoring in elementary and early childhood education. Reapplying and continuing their $1,000 scholarships are: Daniel Crumpler, Areil Jennis, Ourania (Rainia) Lardas, Christopher Pate and Erin Tribble.

NOTES from the Music Committee

The Music Committee of Roser would like to welcome MARY HAGEN, our new piano accompanist. She will be accompanying the Chancel Choir two Sundays a month thru July allowing Jim Johnston, our Music Minister, to direct the Anthem from the podium.

Mary lives in Bradenton and is a music teacher at Williams Elementary in Parrish. She has degrees from the University of Cinncinnati and the University of Dayton in Ohio. She has experience as choir accompanist in churches in Ohio. WELCOME! Mary.

In October, when the Handbells start up another season, we are going to be rehearsing on a different day and time. The rehearsal change will be to Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM. We think this change will give those interested in joining the ROSER RINGERS, who have not been able to do an afternoon rehearsal, an opportunity to join us. Roser Ringers are looking for men and women who are good readers of music and have previously played Handbells. The Handbell Choir rings once a month during season in the Sunday Worship service. If you are interested or have any questions about the Handbell Choir, please talk to Jim Johnston, any of the Roser Ringers, or call the church office (778-0414) and leave your name. Someone from the Handbell Choir will get back with you.

During June and July the CHANCEL CHOIR will be rehearsing twice a month instead of weekly. We meet on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. If anyone is interested in singing in the Chancel Choir and has time to give during June and July, you are welcome to join us. Please call Jim Johnston (778-0414) and tell him you wish to sing with the Chancel Choir for the summer. He will meet with you and tell you about the Chancel Choir and its music, and, the rehearsal Thursdays for June and July. July twenty-seventh will be the final Sunday for the Chancel Choir to sing until September.

JUNE: Loving HandsLoving Hands Ministries Inc. is a non- profit (501-3C) 18 – 24 month Christ centered Residential Rehabilitation program for young men addicted to drugs, alcohol and other life controlling problems. Loving Hands Minis-tries was founded in 1982 by Dr. Wendell C. Wilson and his wife Nancy. The original cam-pus is in Bradenton. A second facility, (the Lighthouse) opened in Dade City in 1992. The ministry does not receive any federal or state funding, nor does it charge the residents for its services. The ministry provides a highly structured program of spiritual discipline, guidance and education. Many lives and destinies have been changed by the power of Jesus through the ministry. Loving Hands has a 70% success rate among those who complete the program requirements.

Mary Selby, Missions Chair

JULY: Florida Sheriffs Youth RanchImagine it is late at night and there is hammering at the door. You open your eyes and there are blue lights flashing just outside your window. You peek out the bedroom door and see your mom sitting on the couch crying while your dad is being put in handcuffs and taken away by a man in a green uniform. Often the children we serve don’t trust the person in the green uniform. At the Youth Ranches, Deputies leave their uniforms at home and come to have fun with our boys and girls! We are fortunate to have hundreds of Deputies volunteer at our programs and in summer camp each year. They teach kids how to swim, ride bikes, canoe, play dodge ball and so much more! Deputies teach children how to be safe and what their jobs are all about. Boys and girls know they can go to them when they need help, like when drug dealers try to move into their neighborhood or when violence strikes in their home.

The Youth Ranch is set on 65 naturally beautiful acres. The facilities include: a community center, two cottages, administration building, maintenance/vocational building, and livestock pavilion for 29 boys. The long range goal to serve 60 children in a total of six cottages. The Mission is to prevent delinquency and develop strong, lawful, resilient, and productive citizens who will make a positive contribution to our communities and be able to face the future with a sense of direction, ability and hope. Devoted staff are well-equipped to nurture needy, neglected youth, and provide a warm sense of security, guidance and tenderness. The staff also assist in resolving the personal difficulties which precipitated placement and help prepare for successful discharge and post-placement family relationships.

Harmony in the Streets is a mobile pro-gram that brings this unique service directly into local communities. The goals are to raise self-esteem and teach ways to utilize free time in a positive manner.

STEPHEN MINISTRYRoser Memorial Community Church is an active Stephen Ministry Congregation. Stephen Ministers and Leaders hold monthly Supervision Meetings within the approved policy of confidentiality. Stephen Ministers are lay persons trained and commissioned to extend the care of Christ and

the Church to those short- and long-term residents who might benefit from the visits of a skilled listener and supportive Christian friend; for ex-ample, someone who has feelings of loneliness or is experiencing a time of crisis may benefit from visits by a Stephen Minister. Trained Stephen Ministers are ready to be assigned to Care Receivers. Please contact Kay Beverly, 941-896-3001, or email [email protected] if you or someone you know would benefit from this care.

A New Member was received into Membership on Sunday May 4th. Please add her to your directory and welcome her to the Roser family:JANICE KIDGERFL 941-816-3620 • MA 978-774-7448

IN THE SUMMER...7 Erie Lane, Danvers, MA 01923

THE HISTORICAL BOOK: OUR CHURCH And How It Grew And Grew And Grew was published for the Centennial Celebration in 2013 and it details the history of the church. It begins...

Back in the year 1911, the lovely island marked on the map as Anna Maria Key, situated between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay, off the mainland of western Florida, lay sleeping in the sun like some centuries-old prehistoric giant. Up and down its seven-mile length there were only a few scattered sun-bleached houses, homes of pioneers who had home-steaded the white-sanded stretch two decades earlier.

By the following spring however, the sleeping giant began to awaken and raise its head. Vacationers had suddenly “discovered” the island. There was activity on all the north end. An elongated pier was flung out into the bay, streets were cut from bay to gulf and sidewalks laid. The jungle was cleared, homes erected, gardens and lawns planted.

Right in the center of this activity a lovely little church lifted its steeple to the blue sky...

The cost is $5.00 and it is available in the Church office during office hours!
