November 2018 Mines Park Hello, Mines Park residents! Only 6 weeks left of the semester - can you believe it?! Below is some information regarding how to properly check-out of Mines Park if you are vacating in December, the remaining programs and events happening this semester, and some important updates and information. The Mines Park staff hopes you have a great Thanksgiving Holiday, and hope you finish this semester strong! You are almost there! December Check-out Information Events & Programs! Updates and Important Information Contact Information Important Dates Checking out in December? For those who are graduating or vacating Mines Park in December, the Intent to Vacate process has concluded. If you are vacating in December, please stop by the Mines Park Housing Office during business hours to receive your Express Checkout Packet at our front desk; business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-7:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. As a reminder, the last day you can vacate your apartment is December 16, 2018. Failure to vacate your apartment by this day, or failure to turn in your Express Checkout Packet and apartment keys will result in you not receiving your prorated rent credit for December and you will be charged an improper checkout fee. This deadline is nonnegotiable, as Facilities Management must enter all spaces after graduation to prepare these spaces for the following semester. The Mines Park Residence Life staff will be walking spaces starting on Monday, December 17 to begin our assessments and to verify spaces have been cleared. In your Express Checkout Packet, you will see a checklist, on the first page, on how to properly checkout of Mines Park, as well as a cleaning list to help you remember all the elements of your room and/or apartment we will be inspecting during our assessment. Please make sure to utilize and fill out this checklist to ensure that you are properly completing the following checkout procedures and cleaning your soon to be vacant room/apartment. If you and your roommate(s) are all vacating, then please make sure the entire apartment is clean and in good condition utilizing the list in the Express Checkout Packet. If you are the only person vacating, please make sure your room is in good condition utilizing the list in the Express Checkout Packet. Please share the responsibilities of cleaning common areas if all roommates are vacating. Also, discuss with your roommate(s) any damages in the common areas and who will be taking responsibility for paying the whole charge or if you will be splitting the charge with your roommate(s). If Xcel Energy is in your name, please make sure to speak with your roommate(s), if they are staying, about having Xcel Energy put in their name. RLC Paul will be sending an email to roommate(s) regarding this, but this would help Residence Life out tremendously if they are already taking care of this once you vacate the apartment. Two REMAINING Seminar Topics a. Mindfulness and Anxiety: November 5th, 2018 i. Learn what mindfulness is and why it matters to our sense of well-being. ii. Learn quick and effective strategies to cope with anxiety so you feel more in control of your mind. b. Stress and Survival: December 3rd, 2018 i. Learn hands-on techniques to manage your stress well. The modules will help students: (1) understand anxiety, (2) introduce a method for slowing down and disentangling the experience of anxiety, and (3) develop alternative responses to anxiety. b. RIO: Recognition/Insight/Openness (skills building to create flexibility in responding to distress). i. The modules will help students: (1) gain a deeper understanding of their concerns, (2) create flexibility in how they view and approach these issues, and (3) take steps toward living with a wide range of emotions. c. Getting Unstuck (skill building to manage depression symptoms) i. The modules will help students: (1) understand depression, (2) explore how thoughts and behaviors impact depression, and (3) address how students can begin to make changes to thoughts and behaviors in order to better manage depression. Emotional Well-being Workshops Stress Relief Seminars Fall 2018 Final Exam Schedule WORK ORDERS: SAAVE Donation Drive Every spring semester, SAAVE hosts their annual event, Boxes of Hope, which provides a collection of sanitary items available to survivors of sexual assault after they have received treatment in the hospital through the SANE program. These items include shampoo, conditioner, razors, makeup removing wipes, pads, body wash, and soap. SAAVE has placed one of their boxes in the Mines Park Housing Office and will be collecting donations throughout the entire month of November. Please consider donating and thank you for your support! Mines Tiny House Welcome our new neighbor, the Mines Tiny House! The Mines Tiny House is currently located that the corner of Digger Drive and Tangent Way. Please be aware that this is a construction area while the organization is working on the Tiny House. However, please feel free to say hello if you see any members of this organization working on the house. Welcome, to Mines Park Mines Tiny House! We are very excited to be neighbors! For more information, please visit the Mines Tiny House website. Starting this month, every Friday, all laundry and articles of clothing that is left in both the Community Center #1 and #2 laundry rooms will be collected for donations. The Mines Park Housing Office will hold onto clothes for 1 WEEK before donating. While washing and drying your clothes, please make sure set a timer! LAUNDRY: The more you know... As mentioned above, Mines Park will be hosting a canned food drive donation throughout the entire month of November. To go along with this food drive, the Mines Park staff wanted to provide information regarding hunger across the world and more specifically in the Denver metro-area. Again, if you have any canned food items you are not using or if you are interested in donating, please feel free to drop off these items in one of the following donation bins (under the bulletin boards in Community Center #1 and #2, and the Mines Park Housing Office front desk). Your donations are much appreciated! WORLDWIDE The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that about 815 million people of the 7.6 billion people in the world, or 10.7%, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2016. Research shows that most all hungry people live in lower middle-income countries. There are 11 million people undernourished in developed countries. Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year. 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world, with 23 million in Africa alone. COLORADO Nearly 1 in 11 Coloradans (9.2%) struggle with hunger; not always having enough money to buy food. Nearly 1 in 7 Colorado kids (14%) may not always know when or where they will get their next meal. In a room of 50 older adults, 3 of them (5.8%) are facing hunger in Colorado, and forced to make choices between purchasing groceries or medication. 1 in 12 Coloradans use food stamps, including hard-working families, children, seniors, veterans and those who are disabled. A Coloradan, on average, only receives about $1.39 per meal in food stamp benefits, making it a challenge to put healthy food on the table for themselves and their family. Want to get involved? Check out these local food banks in the Denver metro-area: Food Bank of the Rockies - serves over half a million people every year; 145,000 meals to people in need every day. Bienvenidos Food Bank - Serves nearly 10,000 people across all of Denver, and provides enough food to make more than 300,000 meals each year. Checking out in December? For those who are graduating or vacating Mines Park in December, the Intent to Vacate

If you are vacating in December, please stop by the Mines Park Housing Office during
