Checking out in December? For those who are graduating or vacating Mines Park in December, the Intent to Vacate
process has concluded.
If you are vacating in December, please stop by the Mines Park Housing Office during
business hours to receive your Express Checkout Packet at our front desk; business hours are
Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-7:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 AM-2:00 PM.
As a reminder, the last day you can vacate your apartment is December 16, 2018. Failure to
vacate your apartment by this day, or failure to turn in your Express Checkout Packet and
apartment keys will result in you not receiving your prorated rent credit for December and
you will be charged an improper checkout fee. This deadline is nonnegotiable, as Facilities
Management must enter all spaces after graduation to prepare these spaces for the
following semester.
The Mines Park Residence Life staff will be walking spaces starting on Monday, December 17
to begin our assessments and to verify spaces have been cleared. In your Express Checkout
Packet, you will see a checklist, on the first page, on how to properly checkout of Mines
Park, as well as a cleaning list to help you remember all the elements of your room and/or
apartment we will be inspecting during our assessment. Please make sure to utilize and fill
out this checklist to ensure that you are properly completing the following checkout
procedures and cleaning your soon to be vacant room/apartment.
If you and your roommate(s) are all vacating, then please make sure the entire apartment is
clean and in good condition utilizing the list in the Express Checkout Packet. If you are the
only person vacating, please make sure your room is in good condition utilizing the list in the
Express Checkout Packet. Please share the responsibilities of cleaning common areas if all
roommates are vacating. Also, discuss with your roommate(s) any damages in the common
areas and who will be taking responsibility for paying the whole charge or if you will be
splitting the charge with your roommate(s).
If Xcel Energy is in your name, please make sure to speak with your roommate(s), if they are
staying, about having Xcel Energy put in their name. RLC Paul will be sending an email to
roommate(s) regarding this, but this would help Residence Life out tremendously if they are
already taking care of this once you vacate the apartment.
For any questions, please contact the Mines Park Residence Life Coordinator, Paul Carey, at

LAUNDRY:
The more you know...As mentioned above, Mines Park will be hosting a canned food drive donation throughout the
entire month of November.
To go along with this food drive, the Mines Park staff wanted to provide information
regarding hunger across the world and more specifically in the Denver metro-area.
Again, if you have any canned food items you are not using or if you are interested in
donating, please feel free to drop off these items in one of the following donation bins (under
the bulletin boards in Community Center #1 and #2, and the Mines Park Housing Office
front desk). Your donations are much appreciated!
WORLDWIDE
The United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) estimates that about 815
million people of the 7.6 billion people in the
world, or 10.7%, were suffering from chronic
undernourishment in 2016.
Research shows that most all hungry people live
in lower middle-income countries. There are 11
million people undernourished in developed
countries.
Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths
in children under five - 3.1 million children each
year. 66 million primary school-age children
attend classes hungry across the developing
world, with 23 million in Africa alone.
COLORADO
Nearly 1 in 11 Coloradans (9.2%) struggle with
hunger; not always having enough money to
buy food.
Nearly 1 in 7 Colorado kids (14%) may not
always know when or where they will get their
next meal.
In a room of 50 older adults, 3 of them (5.8%)
are facing hunger in Colorado, and forced to
make choices between purchasing groceries or
medication.
1 in 12 Coloradans use food stamps, including
hard-working families, children, seniors,
veterans and those who are disabled. A
Coloradan, on average, only receives about
$1.39 per meal in food stamp benefits, making
it a challenge to put healthy food on the table
for themselves and their family.
Want to get involved? Check out these local food banks in the Denver metro-area:
Food Bank of the Rockies - serves over half a million people every year; 145,000 meals to
people in need every day.
Bienvenidos Food Bank - Serves nearly 10,000 people across all of Denver, and provides
enough food to make more than 300,000 meals each year.
