Wantagh Camera Club

“Baboon” by Dick Hunt, PFLI 27 point winner.B&W “A”

The cover of each edition of The Flash will showcase a photograph made by a member of the Wantagh Camera Club

On Monday, March 18, the Wantagh Camera Club made a donation of $1,000.00 to the Wantagh Public Library. The presenters were myself and Robert Law. This donation was given at the board meeting of the Wantagh Public Library with the president, Ms. Maggie Marino, and all board members present. Harry Loud was the photographic journalist and recorded the event with photos and in writing. This article will appear in the local newspaper for Wantagh and Seaford. Harry will provide us with a copy of the newspaper so all of us can see it.

Over a year ago the Wantagh Public Library informed Adolfo Briceno that they were in the planning stages of installing a state of the art projection system for the meeting room.

Our club was asked whether we would be willing to donate some funds for this project. The Wantagh Camera Club board decided that this would be a good cause and would benefit both sides. The system is now in place and works well. These funds were earned when our club organized several successful fund raisers a few years ago.

AttendanceIn the March edition of the Flash Heide Karabaich,

the president of our camera club, pointed out — very politely — that attendance at the club’s presentations have been very low. Allow me to — not as politely — tell you that you are totally mistaken if you think scoring high on competitions are why you should belong to a camera club.

Scores should only be used as a gauge to your progress as a photographer. The way you will improve your skills is to learn as much as possible about photography through as many sources as possible. Our club officers have taken pains to secure the top photo presenters that are available, yet many of our members ignore presentation night altogether.

As the editor of the Flash since 2005, I have learned

that (too many) readers of the Flash turn to the “scores” pages first, just like sports jocks turn first to the sports pages of newspapers.

I have been told that some of you didn’t know that video tutorials on some Photoshop functions have also been embedded into some of the issues of the Flash. That’s because the “scores” were of the only interest. Sorry, you’re wrong!

Please help yourself to be a better photographer. Your fellow club members are here to help and the presenters are a big part of our improvement process. Attend as many presentations as possible.

Don’t make excuses why you can’t attend!
