Ian We look forward to seeing everyone at future Club outings, our meeting, safe and enjoyable driving

What devastation the floods caused throughout the valley - our thoughts are with the families that lost loved ones, and those that suffered extreme loss to their properties. I think nearly every member of the JDCHR has a story to tell, and we feel for our members that ex-perienced hardship through property damage and lengthy electrical blackout.

On a lighter note, there were some amusing anecdotes to make light of a terrible situation, like our members Ken & Caroline Moore, after hankering for a waterfront property, found themselves admir-ing water all around them, supplies being shipped in. I myself was lucky that the block of land I bought to build my garage and bedroom on, had three trees knocked down that needed removing - but also one that didn’t!

At times like these we pull together; I was helped by Peter Dwyer who with his 4 x 4 we pulled and pushed the big gums around. If any member has been badly affected and needs some help, please let me know and we’ll see if someone can help.

While the weather caused the cancellation of many events, including the MG Euro Day, I attended the FOSC meeting at Wakefield Park in which April was entered. (I still feel I’ve been conned some-how?) April rang a few weeks before and asked about the XJ6 and said she’d bought her ticket up for Wakefield - there went my entry! Next she said what about after Wakefield, be-cause “I only have a one way ticket” so how about you come with me to bring the XJ6 back down to Melbourne so I can take it to some local JCCV events. Sounded OK, so why not. Then of course I find out she’s entering the All Jaguar Day at Winton Raceway, and at the JCCV meeting on Tuesday night I hear about Sandown, Philip Island … just as well I was on the train back to New-castle on Wednesday, my heart couldn’t have taken any more shocks like that! I just don’t know where she gets these ideas.

We have some great events coming up, the Economy Run (quite a misnomer with a worked over V12!), Moree weekend away (oh to relax in those hot spring baths, such bliss) and our mid week runs which Bill has organised more interesting venues to visit, with some spirited driving on the way.

Then of course our All British Display Day on Saturday 25th July! This year we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of both XJC and XJS. How many examples of these two magnificent Jaguars can we find to display. Please let us know if you are bringing one so Mark can organise the layout.

I will miss the events in June till just before the Display Day as I’ll be in Europe, but have a couple of Jag events over there I’ll be catching up with, just a bit late to see the XF tightrope drive across the Thames though. Hasn’t Jaguar made a splash (just as well not literally into the Thames) around the world with it’s new models and direction it is taking, great to see for the marque we all love.

On Thursday 16th the Mid Week Run had a big roll up of members with lunch at Fingal Bay SLSC. Members agreed that the venue was great and would be happy to go there again when the weather warms up. An email will be sent to members informing them of Eurofest this weekend. On May 9th will be the Economy Run. Richard Lynch spoke about his experience with chrome plating company in Coffs Harbour and the pleasing results that were achieved and gave an overview of his Mark 2 restoration. He explained some difficulties that he was having with the unacceptable fit of the carpet set, which he imported from the UK. He was told that his Mark 2 must be one of the few that had a narrow foot well width and asked if any members knew or had a vehicle similar specification to help him solve the mys-tery.

Please help us to help you , by paying your membership dues by the end of May , rather than at the end of June. This will ensure that the committee has a realistic time in which to process your payment , up-date records, produce the 2016 sticker for the back of your membership card, and mail it to you along with your copy of the July Hub. This is particularly important for the owners of club plated cars attending any Club event in July, especially the All British Day in July.

Notice for Club Plate Members

General Business Steve Lilly asked about the wording of the Conditional Registration on the 3rd page of the Hub which currently states that club plated car owners must carry a copy of the magazine. If the mem-ber opts to only receive an electronic version then a change needs to be made to the wording. An example would be after the words current magazine “electronic or hard copy” to be added. In this case the member could have the current magazine on his or her smart phone. Leyland Rix stressed that he had already addressed his concerns at previous meetings regarding the strict requirement limiting a club plated car being driven only by a financial member having in his pos-session his/her current membership card. So this reads that only a financial member can drive the car or it is deemed unregistered by our club. Ian said that Peter was already making enquiries with CMC and RTA and members are awaiting his decision on the wording changes. Raffle prizes of bottles of wine were won by Ailsa Wright and Graeme Cox Meeting closed 8.35pm Minutes taken By Robynne Lilly

SOCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORTSOCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORTSOCIAL SECRETARY’S REPORT

Bill Whitby

April 2015, thank goodness that we didn’t have anything planned for the last week, with the flood rains and closed roads. I hope you all have survived the onslaught of the bad weather. I was without power for a week. Ken Moore our secretary has finally been able to get out after stranded by the flood waters in Hinton for a week. It had now been a week since the rains began and although it only rained for a couple of days there is still many road closures with the water over the roads still impassable, especially around the Maitland district, with the New England Highway still closed at Maitland. The events started early in April with Toronto Boatfest on Sunday 5th. Although it started off as an overcast but as day went on the weather improved and we had a lovely day there inspecting all the boats and of course the other cars that were on display. The following Sunday 12th was the Observation Run, this was organised by Don Anderson, and as Don does, it was a fabulous day. We met at the twin servo’s and drove to the glorious Mt. Penang gardens for morning tea and a look around before setting off on the Observation Run. We finished up at the Ettalong RSL for lunch. The Mid Week Run was to Fingal Beach Surf Club for lunch. We had morning tea at Caswell Reserve Tanilba Bay, a pretty spot overlooking the waters of Port Stephens. i had put in the GPS location, but a few devices did not show the address, so a couple of members had their morning tea at another park in the area. We went on to Fingal Bay Surf Club for a magnificent lunch with ocean views from the dining room. Coming up in May we have on Sunday 3rd Eurofest at Lambton Park, there is a $5.00 entry fee that goes to The Children's Charity. The following Saturday is our Economy Run. The economy run is organised by Don Anderson, and Don always organises the most interesting trips, so come along for a great day. We have twenty four members booked for the Moree weekend, we had a great time in 2012 and this trip will be just as good, we all should return rejuvenated after a couple of days in the mineral springs. The Mid Week Run this month is on Wednesday 27th to the Woy Woy wharf for a seafood luncheon, we will be joining the JDCA for lunch. Lunch is available in the restaurant, contact me for a booking at $35.00 PP by 12 May, or you can enjoy fish & chips on the wharf. June the Mid Week Run is to the Largs pub, we will go to Raymond Terrace for morning tea and on to Largs via Clarence Town for lunch. July will be a very busy month, Forster Keys Fun Day begins on the Saturday with a trip up to Forster and dinner with the other car clubs on the Saturday night at the Cape Hawke Surf Club, breakfast at the Dorsal hotel overlooking the beach on Sunday morning before going to the display. Some members will be coming up on Sunday morning for the display. The itinerary is on the flyer. Phone the Great Lakes holiday park on 6554-6827 to book a cabin for your Saturday night stay. Christmas in July is on Saturday 11th at the Royal Hotel at Singleton, and on July 25th is the JDCHR All British Day on the foreshore. There will be a dinner with JDCA members at Newcastle Club on the night, bookings absolutely necessary, $55.00 for a 2 course dinner, purchase desert if you want.

Mid-Week Run – Fingal Bay – 16th April On Thursday 16th April we set off in the Mk2 to the mid week run to Fingal bay. Thirteen cars set off from Club Macquarie for the morning tea spot by the water at Tanilba Bay. Most of us got there. Allan and Ruth were already there, having driven around the Bay. It was a perfect day for standing around chatting, catching up with members and looking at the lovely view. The next stop was lunch at the Surf Club at Fingal Bay, but a few of us decided to go beer/wine tasting at Murray’s vineyard on the way. That meant we got to Fingal Bay a bit later than others – and wow! – I couldn’t believe how many Jag club people were there – quite a few people skipped the drive and met at the club. It is a lovely spot – right next to the beach. There would’ve been over 30 JDCHR members there. Nicole Haigh .

PS. Just because I’m not mentioning any car issues doesn’t mean we didn’t have any......

We joined the observation run with Don, Eddie, Pauline and Garrie, Helen and Leyland, Paul and Lyn, Paul and Graham, Ray and friend (name??), Bill and Kelly and Brian and Sue Dixon + three grandsons. It was a lovely autumn day and a great day for a drive around some of the scenic roads of the Central Coast. We first stopped at Mt Penang Gardens, which I had been looking forward to, not having been there before – always driving past, saying, “We should drop in there one day” and that day never coming around, until now (Thanks Don!). The Gardens are worth a trip in their own right. The water features are lovely and the concrete walls creating little ecosystems are very interesting. There were a few Wollemi pines sheltering in one ‘gully’, a large collection of bromeliads in an-other and various ferns and stag horns in others (to name just a few). My favourite sections were the water falls and the bottle trees. There was also a nice little cafe there.

Gardens and water with cafe in the background.

Avenue of bottle trees At the top end of the gardens lies the Wombeyan sculptures (moved here to save them from van-dalism and give them more exposure to the public) and a dam where people can use a jet pack – which looked like a lot of fun (but maybe when it’s a bit warmer in the water).

After morning tea we set off, touring around the Central Coast backroads from the back of Somersby to Ettalong, via some very nice bush and coastal scenery and some tricky clues – espe-cially when one of the questions was missing.... (sorry Don – couldn’t help myself!) We all ended up (some sooner than others) at the massive Ettalong Diggers Club for a yummy lunch. We sat in the outside terrace under an open section of the roof, which was great until the clouds started rolling in and we asked if they could close the roof – “No, it is broken” – luckily we got no more than 3 or 4 spots of rain before the clouds rolled away again. Don checked all the answers and decided not to penalise smarty-pants for writing answers where there were no ques-tions and hence yours truly won – but only by the smallest margin – (from who?). Our trip home started reasonably, the morning’s misfiring problems mostly resolved, and then went downhill when there was a horrible noise coming from under the car as we were going along at 110kph in the outside lane on the freeway. As we pulled over and slowed down, I opened my window and stuck my head out just in time to see the exhaust separating from the car and coming to a stop nicely on the hard shoulder. We backed up safely to where it was and started to think about the next steps (well, I knitted and Andrew started thinking about the next steps).

Andrew decided to put the exhaust back on (it wouldn’t fit in the car), which was a little bit of a

struggle. Thanks to Eddie, Graham and Paul and the Rix’s for making sure we were OK, but par-

ticularly to Brian Dixon for adding the extra muscle that helped get the exhaust back in place for

the drive home – which just wasn’t happening with my muscles.

We got home OK, with the exhaust mostly in place. Andrew has since welded up the holes caused by it dragging along the road and fitted it back on properly and added a securing system to it stays in place. As I write, we are planning to take the MkII on the mid-week run to Fingal Bay – so I hope I’m not writing another article this month! Thanks to Don for organising another great drive around our lovely part of the world. We always learn so much about our local area and see so many new things on these trip.

launch 24 March 2015: The all-new Jaguar XF has been revealed during a dramatic 'high-wire' water crossing in the heart of London's business district. Introducing the All-New Jaguar XF The All-New Jaguar XF | Exterior Design Expert British stunt man Jim Dowdell, veteran of Hollywood movies including Bond, Bourne and Indiana Jones, drove the all-new Jaguar XF 240 metres across a high-wire to demonstrate the new XF's lightweight aluminium-intensive construction. The new XF is 80kgs lighter than its clos-est competitor. The feat took place high over the Royal Dock in London's Canary Wharf. Footage of the drive can be viewed here: jaguar.com/newxf The all-new XF brings an unrivalled blend of refinement, fuel economy, dynamics and design to the business car segment. It will make its global motor show debut in New York on 1 April. With segment-leading figures for interior space, the all-new XF's dynamic, coupé-like design is formed around Jaguar's aluminium-intensive architecture and combines the outstanding propor-tions, elegant surfaces and pure lines which define all Jaguar cars, with exceptionally low aerody-namic drag. The cabin utilises a seamless blend of contemporary luxury materials and finishes, traditional Jag-uar craftsmanship and state-of-the art technology. With features such as the new InControl Touch Pro premium infotainment system and 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster.

"In creating the all-new XF, as a design team we have been driven by discipline, the dis-cipline of simplicity. Every exterior line on the XF has a clear purpose - nothing is super-fluous. Achieving that simplicity takes time and requires great determination; it's all too easy to add lines to a car, but much harder to add character by leaving lines out. "Inside too, we have been driven by the desire to ensure the XF's cabin is as comforting as it is comfortable. New technology, including our new 10.2-inch touchscreen, is com-bined carefully with materials that cosset and reassure. The all-new XF has a clear sense of calm and strength, both outside and inside - and I'm proud of my team for delivering that." Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar The original XF's sleek exterior and luxurious interior made it a desirable, aspirational vehicle. Combined with benchmark driving dynamics, the XF was like nothing the else in the segment and has gone on to become Jaguar's most-awarded car. The all-new XF retains its predecessor's core attributes but uses Jaguar's advanced alu-minium-intensive architecture to elevate them to a completely new level. Featuring 75 per cent aluminium, the architecture enables weight savings of up to 190kg over the outgoing model and an increase in torsional stiffness of up to 28 per cent. The architecture also delivers dramatic improvements in packaging and the proportions so essential to Jaguar design. Though 7mm shorter and 3mm lower than the car it re-places, the all-new XF's 2,960mm wheelbase is 51mm longer, enabling class-leading rear seat space with more legroom, kneeroom and headroom. The efficiency gains inherent in the lightweight aluminium construction are complemented by the all-new XF's refined, powerful engine range. The 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine produces 132kW/430Nm and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine develops up to 177kW/340Nm, while the renowned 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine will be offered in both 250kW/450Nm and 280kW/450Nm ratings. The 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel benefits from a host of advanced technologies which boost efficiency and refinement still further, and raise output to 221kW and a remarkable

Advanced passive damper technology delivers exceptional ride comfort as standard, but for even better control the Adaptive Dynamics system determines the optimum damper settings for the driving conditions. Jaguar Configurable Dynamics, first developed for F-TYPE, provides the ultimate in con-trol and enables the driver to individually tailor settings of the dampers, steering, engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. All-Surface Progress Control, developed for low-speed driving in adverse conditions, automatically manages the brakes and the throttle to deliver the best possible traction, enabling the car to pull away smoothly and without drama: the driver only has to steer. Infotainment is the most advanced Jaguar has ever offered. The all-new InControl Touch Pro system features a 10.2-inch touchscreen and Dual View technology which simultane-ously allows the driver to see information such as navigation, while the front seat passen-ger watches TV or a DVD. To handle the enormous amounts of data, InControl Touch Pro features a solid-state drive and a quad-core processor. Complementing InControl Touch Pro is a reconfigurable 12.3-inch TFT instrument clus-ter. Jaguar Land Rover pioneered this technology with the XJ and Range Rover and is now bringing it to the business car segment. To make every journey safer and even more relaxing, the all-new XF offers a wide range of advanced driver assistance systems, and is also the first Jaguar to offer full-LED head-lights. The all-new aluminium-intensive Jaguar XF will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover's Castle Bromwich Plant alongside the all-aluminium F-TYPE and XJ.

Incorporating all of the learning from F-TYPE and XE, the meticulously-tuned Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) maintains the XF's benchmark steering feel and re-sponse - and contributes to the all-new XF's outstanding fuel economy.

CMC Prof

The Council was formed in 1963 by five Sydney-based car clubs as a body to represent the inter-

ests of the historic and classic vehicle movement. The Council was originally named The Council

of Veteran, Vintage and Thoroughbred Motor Clubs (CVV&TMC). Being a somewhat unwieldy

name, many enthusiasts referred to it as "Fred"; less of a mouthful. In November 2000 the Council

became an incorporated body and was re-named The Council of Motor Clubs, Inc. or CMC. The

CMC is, in turn, affiliated with the Australian Historic Motoring Federation (AHMF), a national or-

ganisation uniting similarly orientated councils from around Australia. The role of the CMC is a

representative one – it represents affiliated clubs and their members with authorities such as the

Roads & Maritime Services Authority of NSW with reference to Conditional Historic Registration;

the Federal Government on matters such as leaded fuel and its continued availability, and such

like.At no time is the Council a "controlling" body; it may issue guidelines or advice on an issue

when requested, but it will never tell an affiliated club what to do.In 2013, the CMC welcomed its

162nd specialty motoring club as an affiliate – those 162 clubs contain over 22,000 members with

diverse interests including trucks, buses, trams, ex-military vehicles, fire engines, motor cycles/

scooters and cars, road going and racing, from the veteran, vintage, pre-war, post-war and mod-

ern eras. The CMC stages a number of events each year for the participation of members of affili-

ated clubs and to enthusiastically showcase our movement to the general public. The National

Motoring Heritage Day happens each year; in mid-May with as many historic vehicle owners as

possible being encouraged to take their vehicle out on the roads for a day's enjoyable motoring

and visiting a number of sites along the way.The Council's premier event of each year is the Shan-

non’s Sydney Classic, held on the 3rd weekend of August each year. Over 1900 classic club vehi-

cles are on display on the Sunday, with each club involved in parade laps around the track, and

Concours judging of some of the best historic and club vehicles in NSW. It is a great family day

with music, double-decker bus rides around the track and lots of things for the little ones. The Clas-

sic, as it is called has been held at the Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek Interna-

tional Raceway) for over 20 years. Provided by Andrew Pointing

We set out on what looked to be clearing weather, it had been raining the previous days, but today the clouds were clearing. A couple of us left Club Macquarie and drove to Toronto where we were joined by more Jaguars for the day. We arrived o find we were allotted display parking near the front of the cafés, which made the day much more comfortable for us. The weather had not com-pletely cleared so we decided to make a hot coffee the best start for the day. We wandered down after morning tea to have a look at the boars on display, there was varied range of boats to see. Some vintage boats, the owners pride & joy, a couple of old boats with put-put motors were taking the visitors for a short spin around the lake, and of course some of the latest cruisers moored at the wharf with the owners welcoming aboard anyone that wanted to inspect them. There was a boat building race on, with the participants racing to build a floating boat, just using timber and plywood and basic tools, they were very resourceful getting these things together, I watched as one was being put together with some threatening gaps, but with some careful trimming they soon had it fitting together, although I didn’t wait around to see if it actually did float. The day was well organised, with the boats and cars on display, boat rides available, food stalls and the SES fund raising raffle, with a tinny and fishing gear on a trailer as the prize. But as a Jag owner I was more impressed with the cars on display. Some of our members went to the RSL for lunch, and we left for home after lunch.
