Day of Prayer
At the suggestion of our Pope and the request of our Bishop, On September 9th, at our parish, we will hold a day of prayer for victims
and survivors of abuse. The outline of the day is as follows:
During the Noon Mass, following the reception of Holy
Communion, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the
Monstrance. At the conclusion of Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will
be carried in a small procession to the main altar, and followed by a
period of quiet adoration.
In the middle of the afternoon (3 pm), there will be communal
meditation on and recitation of the Mysteries of the Rosary.
The day will end with Vespers and Benediction (4:45 pm)..
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a very old tradition in the Catholic
Church. During time of exposition, the faithful are before the True Presence, that is, Jesus Christ;
his body, blood, soul, and divinity are present in the Eucharist. While at all times we praise, worship,
and glorify the Lord, it is during this time that we adore; a word with a deeper and more specific
connotation. In the Order of Exposition of the Holy Eucharist, when a priest or deacon is present,
Benediction occurs at the end of this period. Benediction is the blessing of the people with the
Blessed Sacrament.
The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on events in the life of Jesus, from the
Annunciation to the Resurrection, descent of the Holy Spirit, and the Crowning of Mary in
Heaven. These are divided into the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries.
Vespers is the evening prayer of the liturgy of the hours. The purpose of evening prayer is to
give thanks to God for the day we have just lived, to make a sacrifice of praise, and always includes
the Magnificat.
It is the hope of our staff to see many of the faithful attend this important day for the spiritual health
of our Church.

Quo vadis… My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. It’s easier to clean the pots and pans than to clean one’s heart! It’s also easy to dismiss this gospel because our tradition has never emphasized this kind of ritual impurity. Yet, the gospel hits home closer than we may think. What traditions do we blindly cling to? Perhaps it is enough for us just to go to Mass on Sunday; after all, this is what most of us grew up doing. Or perhaps we cling to rote prayers that we learned as a child rather than stretch our relationship with God to find new prayer expressions. Perhaps we relegate God in our lives to an hour on Sunday. We need to look at the way we live, and this will tell us whether we have hearts truly turned toward God—all the time. Purity of heart is expressed in righteous living—self-giving for the sake of others. This is how we have life.
Last weekend I represented our parish at a celebration of Mass in honor of Fr. Tony Carotenuto’s 50th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. Father Tony assists our parish during the week and sometimes on Sundays. He is the Pastor Emeritus of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, Red Bank. May God continue to bless Father Tony and all of our distinguished retired priests.
Several years ago His Holiness, Pope Francis declared 1 September as a day for us to remember the gifts of creation, especially the earth and all that the earth offers to sustain our everyday living. Building upon the landmark encyclical Laudato si, the Holy Father invites us to pray in a special way for a greater awareness of all creation, human life and the environment in which we live. This call is not one of political or social correctness, but rather one of a moral imperative recognizing that God has set humankind over creation. Therefore, we have a moral obligation to respect all that has been created and work for greater respect of all creation. May
our deliberate respect for God’s many gifts found in the created order inspire others to work for just environmental policies.
This weekend we observe the Civic Holiday recognizing the dignity of Human Labor. Let us remember all those who labor for the common good. Let us also pray for a continued increase in the working conditions for all laborers. The parish office will be closed on Monday and Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 am. Our young people are preparing to begin a new school year. Let us continue to support them and their teachers with our prayer and spirit of volunteerism as needed. Likewise our parish is preparing for another year of religious education for our young people. The religious formation of every child is the primary responsibility of parents with godparents. Parish staff and catechists are in place to support these families in their search for God in the everyday circumstances of life. This might be a good time for me to reiterate the importance of parents accompanying their children to Mass each Sunday and for Holy Days; dressing appropriately, arriving on time, remaining until the final blessing are all ways that we witness the importance of Sunday Eucharist in the life of every Catholic.
Please join me in welcoming Reverend Fr. Kevin J. Kimtis to our parish this weekend. Father Kimtis will celebrate and preach the homily at both the 10 am and 12 Noon Masses. Father Kevin, a priest of the Diocese of Trenton, is currently a doctoral candidate studying Canon Law in Rome. Additionally, he has been invited into the Vatican Diplomatic Corps and is a student at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. He is home visiting his family after a summer internship at the Apostolic Nunciature in Manila. Don’t forget the Martha Mary Clothing sale this coming week! Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Martha Mary Guild Celebrates 45th Anniversary
On 12 September 2018, the Martha Mary Guild will be celebrating its 45th Anniversary.
Our special guest of honor will be Pastor Emeritus – Reverend Fr. William J. Bausch, who served as our Pastor for 23 years. He is an award winning author of numerous books on parish ministry, the sacraments, Church history, storytelling, and homiletics. He is well known both here and abroad.
45 years ago, Fr. Bausch had the foresight of bringing women of the parish together and empowering them to assist and serve in meeting the needs of the people within the parish, but also extending outward to the Colts Neck community and beyond – especially to benefit women and children. Thus: the birth of this vibrant organization known as the Martha Mary Guild!
The program will be a time of awakening some fond memories of past years (with a good dose of humor, of course) but also touch upon the role of women today, and the Martha Mary Guild of the future. As always, Fr. Bausch opens our eyes and hearts to look at each day and say: “Yes!”
Join us at 11:30 a.m. to pray the rosary in the Spiritual Center Chapel, followed by BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch), with refreshments provided by the Guild, in Madonna Hall. Father Bausch will begin around 12:30. All are welcome!
Kindly return membership forms by September 12, 2018 in order to be listed in the Directory.
