The Eagle Lake Headlight News for Southern Colorado County, Texas Thursday, January 29, 2004, Page 5 Raider Review Mr. and Miss RHS 2004 By Steven Moore Congratulations to Marshall Peterson and Vera Cleveland for being selected Mr. and Miss Rice High School (RHS). Marshall, son of Norman and Lisa Peterson, plans to attend the University of Houston and major in computer engineering. During his high school career, he has participated in football, basketball, National Honor Society (NHS), FFA, 4-H, and yearbook and newspaper staff. He has received numerous awards such as, Academic All-State football, Academic All-District football, NHS board member, National Honor Roll, Who's Who in American High School students, as well as many other awards. When asked how he felt about the recognition Marshall replied, "I am hon- ored to know that my teachers feel that I am qualified to represent the Class of 2004 as Mr. RHS." Vera, daughter of Willie and Ruth Cleveland, plans to attend the University of Tampa where she will major in law. Vera has played basketball for four years and has also participated in volleyball and been an office and library aide. She has been awarded National Honor Roll, Academic All-District basketball, and Who's Who in American High School students. When questioned about being voted Miss RHS she replied, "I was in shock, complete awe." Mr. and Miss RHS are elected each year by the Rice faculty. The students should represent all of the finest qualities that teachers hope to find in students. Qualities to consider are leadership, intelligence, willingness to project a coop- erative attitude, grades, conduct and participation in extracurricular activities. Marshal and Vera are definitely the two seniors that display each of those qualities to the fullest and have earned their titles with four years of hard work, determination, and all the while helping out with a smile on their faces. Congratulations once again to Marshall and Vera! Senior Serve 2004 By Kelly Konesheck Senior Serve, held Saturday, Jan. 17, was a record-setting success. The dinner, put on by the Senior Class of 2004, was catered by Austin's. The talent show was under the direction of Deborah Reed and Missy Jurica. After providing valet parking, the seniors served over 600 guests a prime rib dinner with potatoes, green beans, salad and buttered rolls. Every guest had the opportunity to tip their server with "Raider Bucks", which go towards their total points for Project Graduation. A silent auction was also held before and during the meal. The talent show began with "The Golden Plated Cowbell" and kept every- one laughing by making fun of teachers (Coach Dumont's deafening speech, Mr. Williams loud personality, and Mrs. Reed's shortness and Australian ac- cent), and cross-dressing (football players in hula skirts and dresses and girls in baggy pants and baseball caps). Other acts featured musical talent including Sarah Disparti singing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and Nathaniel Fitzgerald rapping "So Gone." The Masters of Ceremonies were Jonny Diaz and Jennifer Hassin, who kept everyone entertained between the skits. When asked what he remembered most about the night, Diaz replied, "I was supposed to be stalling for the next set up and when I couldn't think of anything to say I just started dancing." Cleve Scott responded with, "Dressing up like a girl and shimmying in front of everyone," and Branden Jenkins reminisced about, "Carrying all those trays of food!" All of the money made from the night benefited Project Graduation, which is a party held at the school graduation night for all the seniors to spend one last night together as the Class of 2004. Some fabulous prizes, including desktop and laptop computers, are given to the seniors with the points they have accumulated over the year. Every senior gets a prize, however, and none of the items are cheap, which is why Senior Serve is so important. To everyone who donated an item for the silent auction, helped with the food, organized sets, made costumes, and everyone who came and supported the seniors, the Class of 2004 gives a huge thank you.
