SIGN UPS NEEDED NOW for ROSE BOWL RALLY. More spac‐es are available. The rally runs from Dec 28 – Jan 1 and
offers many more events at much less cost than other com‐pe?ng organiza?ons offer. It looks like parking will be less crowded than
previously (s?ll dry camping). The camping site is very close to the parade route and is cen‐tered close to great shopping, groceries and restaurants. Parade sea?ng is included and is located in a prime spot and with great seats to see the floats, and you can have an oppor‐tunity to work on building a float. It is a great way to see the parade. Go to h/p://region12.wbcci.net/about/annual‐rose‐parade‐rally/ to get more informa?on and for a coupon to submit.

Below is a list of things that the Smithsons and other members of the NorCal Unit have done to fix
up their rigs. Hedda Smithson discussed the list during a seminar at the recent Region 12 Rally in
Lodi. Several items in par?cular caught our a/en?on.
Julia has ordered the liquid soap foam pump with a suc?on cup to hold it in place while the trailer
bumps its way down the road.
Fred’s a/en?on was drawn to the replacement Maxim skylights which three or four NorCal mem‐
bers have used with excellent results when theirs cracked due to sun exposure or blew off with the
wind. The Maxims use different plas?c and have given more years of use, come with triple glazing,
and use a specially designed fame to replace the problema?c plas?c frame that comes with the
trailer.
Maybe you will find something useful in Hedda’s list. The 2007 Safari, Special Edi?on, FB we own
was ordered in 2007 with solar panels and our choice of upholstery fabric. We instantly began
changing it. We are happy to share our ideas. All items are available through ordinary vendors ex‐
cept where noted and were installed by Tom except where noted.

Here is a light pineapple souffle‐type casserole that was popular at the Jojoba Hills rally in November. It can be prepared a day early then baked before being served. An adven‐turous cook could try it with a different fruit than the canned pineapple.

2 20oz cans crushed pineapple
8 Slices of bread (cut crusts off). Cut into cubes
1 Cube of bu/er
4 eggs
4 Tbs flour
1 Cup of sugar
12 x 8 baking dish
Brown bu/er slightly, add bread and set aside. Beat eggs un?l fluffy add flour, sugar, pinch of salt and mix. Add undrained pineapple and bread cubes, mix and blend.
Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour. Makes 12+ servings. Can be prepared a day ahead then cooked before serving.

T hough the current holiday of Thanksgiving was based on the 1621 feast, it did not immediately become an annual celebra?on or holiday. Sporadic days of Thanksgiving followed, usually declared locally to give thanks for a
specific event such as the end of a drought, victory in a specific ba/le, or aUer a harvest. it wasn't un?l October 1777 that all 13 colonies celebrated a day of Thanksgiving. The very first na?onal day of Thanksgiving was held in 1789, when President George Washington proclaimed Thursday, November 26 to be "a day of public thanksgiving and prayer," to especially give thanks for the opportunity to form a new na?on and the establishment of a new cons?tu?on. Yet even aUer a na?onal day of Thanksgiving was declared in 1789, Thanksgiving was not an annual celebra?on.
M other of Thanksgiving We owe the modern concept of Thanksgiving to a woman named Sarah Josepha Hale. Hale, editor of Godey's Lady's Book and author of the famous "Mary Had a Li/le Lamb" nursery rhyme, spent 40 years advoca?ng for a na?onal, annual Thanksgiving holiday. In the years leading up to the Civil War, she saw the holiday as a way to infuse hope and belief in the na?on and the cons?tu?on. So, when the United States was torn in half during the Civil War and Lincoln was searching for a way to bring the na?on together, he discussed the ma/er with Hale.
L incoln Sets Date
On October 3, 1863, Lincoln issued a Thanksgiving Proclama?on that declared the last Thursday in November (based on Washington's date) to be a day of "thanksgiving and praise." For the first ?me, Thanksgiving became a na?onal, annu‐al holiday with a specific date.
