TRANSCRIPT
Most people have a key chain and on that key chain there is an
abundance of keys, each designed to open a certain lock. It is quite
normal to have a lot of keys on the chain. There is probably one for the
house, one for the office, one for the car, and so on. Each key has been
uniquely cut to fit a certain lock in order to enter or gain access to a
specific location.
I have a number of keys that look alike, are the same size and length,
and appear similar in shape, but they won’t open the same door because
they have each been uniquely crafted from a different master key. Each
key has been uniquely crafted for a special place.
In our context, God is the master key. He opens everything, but He has
uniquely crafted every believer for a specific place in which He wants
you to make a difference in the lives of others as a recipient of the
manifold grace of God.
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not
the same office. Use the different gift that has been given to you
according to the grace that is given to us.

TRUSTEE MINISTRY
During the past quarter the Trustee Ministry had monthly
meetings. This quarter we conducted summer cleaning, e.g.
routine cleaning of the sanctuary, fellowship hall, church
school classroom, bathrooms and other areas of the church.
We also initiated the annual cleaning of the church
cemetery, eg. G rass cutting, weed eating, tree trimming,
removal of dead tree limbs and old flowers. This was
conducted in preparation for our summer revival. During
the past quarter a new water fountain was placed in the
fellowship hall. Two new ice coolers were purchased for
the church kitchen and door locks were also replaced for
kitchen doors. Remodeling of the church front porch was
started. Repairs on the church pink and yellow house
(friendship village) were started.
During the next quarter, the trustee ministry will focus on
primarily on completing the necessary repairs for the Pink
and Yellow houses to make them available for usage. This
ministry has projected the completion of all other pending
project during the next quarter. We will continue to conduct
other related duties, as needed.

As We Enter This Season of Fall (Autumn) The dictionary has many meanings for the word “fall”
and there are so many descriptive terms for this season
of the year, but my favorite is this one: To drop or
come down freely under the influence of gravity: As
I began to think of the many colors that will transform
the landscape of earth during the “Fall” season; the
many changing colors of leaves and ultimately falling
from the trees, and then grass slowly turning brown
getting ready to fall asleep, I am reminded of my
childhood and my mother teaching me and my siblings
to pray. She would have us kneel at our bedside, bow
T N Motto: Is anyone among you in
trouble? Let them pray. Is
anyone happy? Let them sing
songs of praise. James 5:13

our heads, and we would recite a prayer she taught us.
We would “fall” down on our knees and pray before
bedtime. As we have grown to become adults, parents
and grandparents, I marvel at how often and how many
times I have fallen on my knees to pray, to thank God
for his many blessings and to pour out my hurts and
fears to an all knowing and loving God. As I deal with
the many demands on my time and resources, how
humbled I am to be able to “fall” down and pray; to
communicate with my Lord and Savior, and to thank
Him for all that He has done and that He will do. I am
blessed to have a relationship with Him.
Friendship Family – As we enter into the season of
“Fall” may we be reminded to always pray; to have a
conversation with our Savior; to “fall” on our knees
and pray. May God continue to bless you!

Recent Thank You Letter from Covenant House:
My friends, the word “covenant” means a lot of
different things to a lot of different people. To me, it
means that God’s promise to take care of His children
will always be fulfilled.
Our Covenant House staff, volunteers and
friends like you are the people called upon to fulfill
that promise, every hour of every day and in return, we
are blessed with the greatest opportunity of all – the
chance to help the brave, good, and needy kids who
come to us for help.
Thank you for helping us keep our doors open
for over 2,000 homeless kids tonight. These kids are
our kids, yours and fulfill the commitment of
Covenant House to help kids in crisis today – and to
turn no child away who comes to us for help
tomorrow.
You mean so much to these kids. Thank you
for helping every kid in our shelter tonight. Gratefully
mine. Thank you for helping me keep the covenant
we’ve made with homeless youth. Together, in the
true spirit of the covenant that renews its promises
daily, we can.
Kevin Ryan, President
Thanks to some very special people who reached out
to some very special youth within our congregation to
help prepare them for back to school . . . may God
continue to bless you abundantly. It brought so much

SPIRITUAL CORNER
Beyond the rainbow’s farthest end, there lies
A land that’s always filled with love and light.
Where shadows never fall and dim the skies;
For in this lovely land, there is no night.
In this celestial place of joy and peace,
There is no time or space, no doubt of fear;
For those who come to it, all troubles cease.
And though the loss of loved ones or of friends
Brings sorrows and is hard for us to bear.
If we could see beyond the rainbow’s end
We know that we could find them waiting there
In that celestial dwelling place above------------
The land of peace and joy, of light and love.

10 Ways to Rev Up Your Brain
and Reduce the Risk of Cognitive
Decline
By Angela Timashenka Geiger, Chief Strategy Officer,
Alzheimer’s Association
The brain is your body’s control and command center. Its
power is complex, vast, and awe-inspiring — which means
the idea of taking care of it can be intimidating.
Recent surveys suggest that an overwhelming majority of
people realize they can reduce their risk of cognitive
decline. What they don’t know is what to do and where to
start.
The potential to lower your risk of cognitive decline lies in
many of the same healthy habits that are also good for your
health in general. The Alzheimer’s Association released
these 10 Ways to Love Your Brain in honor of Alzheimer’s
and Brain Awareness Month:
1. Break a Sweat
Exercise isn’t just about looking good for swimsuit season.
Several studies have found an association between physical
activity and reduced risk of cognitive decline. Engage in
regular cardiovascular exercise that elevates your heart rate
and increases blood flow to the brain and body.
2. Hit the Books
Some of the strongest evidence for reducing risk of
dementia revolves around years of formal education — and
this doesn’t mean getting an Ivy League degree. It can be
as simple as taking a class at a local college or community
center or online. Formal education in any stage of life will
help reduce your risk of cognitive decline and dementia.
3. Butt Out
The reasons to quit smoking are endless, but you can add
that it may help reduce your risk of cognitive decline.
Quitting smoking can reduce risk to levels comparable to
those for people who have not smoked.
4. Follow Your Heart
You know it’s good for your body, but did you also know it
can be good for your brain? Evidence shows risk factors
for cardiovascular disease and stroke — obesity, high
blood pressure, and diabetes — negatively impact your
brain and cognitive health. Take care of your heart, and
your brain just might follow.
5. Heads Up!
Another evidence-based tip for reducing your risk of
cognitive decline: Avoid head injuries. A brain injury can
raise your risk of cognitive decline and dementia, so wear a
seat belt, use a helmet when playing contact sports or
riding a bike, and take steps to prevent falls.
6. Fuel Up Right
Recent surveys suggest more than two out of three people
said you can reduce your risk of cognitive decline by eating
one or two of the right “superfoods” — a misconception,
since there is no research showing that individual foods
make a difference. What we do know: Eating a healthy and
balanced diet that has more vegetables and fruits can help
reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Although research on
diet and cognitive function is limited, certain diets,
including Mediterranean and Mediterranean-DASH
(Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), may
contribute to risk reduction.
7. Catch Some Zzzs
You know the feeling: When you don’t get enough sleep,
you just feel “off,” and you’re not functioning at full
capacity. There are long-term risks as well: Not getting
enough sleep due to conditions like insomnia or sleep
apnea may result in problems with memory and thinking.
8. Take Care of Your Mental Health
Some studies link a history of depression with increased
risk of cognitive decline, so seek medical treatment if you
have symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other mental
health concerns. Also, try to manage stress.
9. Buddy Up
Those lunch dates with your friends are fun, but they may
have a more positive effect than you thought. Staying
socially engaged may support brain health, so pursue social
activities that are meaningful to you. Find ways to be part
of your local community — if you love animals, consider
volunteering at a local shelter. If you enjoy singing, join a
local choir or help at an after-school program. Or simply
share activities with friends and family.
10. Stump Yourself
Six out of 10 respondents in a recent survey thought that
the right puzzle, game, or app could reduce their risk of
cognitive decline. But helping to keep your brain healthy
goes beyond any single tool. Challenging yourself to think
in new ways may have short and long-term benefits for
your brain. Complete a jigsaw puzzle, do something
artistic, or build a piece of furniture. Play games, such as
bridge, that make you think strategically.

B-L High varsity football player, go through Cardiac
Screening at Providence Hospital. Though Cameron
had shown no signs of any heart issues, something just
told the Petersons that they should have him checked
out. After the screening, it was determined that
Cameron does need to have further testing, but has
been cleared to play football.
After Mr. Peterson’s conversation with the Board and
superintendent, Dr. Gary met with athletic personnel,
district nurse and other administrators to create a plan
of action to look into how the district might offer the
cardiac screening to all of its 400 student athletes. The
total cost would be about $20,000, as each screening
cost $50. Parents would be encouraged to pay for their
own child’s screening if possible, but donations would
be needed to pay for the screenings of those students
whose families could not afford the $50. Once the
details of the project were completed, Dr. Gary shared
the information with the Board of Trustees and
received their unanimous support of moving forward
with the cardiac screening for all student athletes.
Because of Mr. Peterson’s conversation with the
Board, and the findings of the district’s
administration, “Heart of a Panther” campaign has
been created and on October 5 and October 6, student
athletes at B-L Middle and High Schools will have the
opportunity to go through special screening for

Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HCM),
the leading cause of a sudden cardiac arrest in young
athletes. This quick and noninvasive imaging
procedure is the gold standard in detecting this deadly
disease. Providence Hospital will bring their van to
both schools to screen all athletes who choose to
participate. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a
disease in which the heart muscle becomes
abnormally thick, is the most common cause of heart-
related sudden death in people under 30 and in young
athletes, according to the Mayo Clinic, but athletes
may also suffer from coronary artery abnormalities or
Long QT Syndrome which creates fast, chaotic
heartbeats.
And in many cases, athletes show no symptoms prior
to a life-threatening episode, according to the clinic.
Lexington 3 Superintendent, Dr. Randall Gary had
these comments on the “Heart of a Panther
Campaign.” “After the loss of a student athlete in our
neighboring district earlier this year and hearing the
testimony of one our own parents, we knew this was
something we needed to provide for our students.
With the unanimous support of our school board,
district and school staff worked together to launch the
Heart of a Panther Campaign. Batesburg-Leesville has
proven to be a community that pulls together when
there is a need, and what greater need is there than the
well-being of our children.”
Information on the screening and registration forms
will be sent home with all athletes to receive parental
permission for the screening. Parents are encouraged
to pay for their child’s screening, but if they cannot,
the “Heart of a Panther” campaign hopes to be able to
provide the resources to pay for the screenings.
“Heart of a Panther” campaign is accepting donations
from local businesses, individuals, churches, and civic
organizations to help pay for the cardiac screening of
the district’s athletes. Donations may be made by
check made payable to “Lexington County School
District Three,” and sent to 338 West Columbia
Avenue, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29006. If donating
by check, please write “Heart of a Panther Campaign"
on the memo line of your check. You may also donate
by going to the “Heart of a Panther” Paypal account
that is on the district’s website at www.lex3.org .
Donations are tax deductible.

New start up launches
coverage plans that pay
traffic ticket fines
TicketGuard, LLC an Atlanta, Georgia based start-up
has launched its website ticketguardusa.com which
offers Citation Protection Plans™ that provide
licensed drivers coverage against traffic ticket fines.
“TicketGuard Citation Protection Plans were
developed to provide coverage against often
inconvenient and expensive traffic ticket fines. We
provide a solution of payment to any licensed driver
who may receive a traffic or parking ticket, with our
very unique and innovative coverage plans”, explains
Founder and CEO Reuben Levy, Jr. He is the son of
Deacon R.O. Levy, Sr.
The newly introduced plans cover ticket fines related
to speeding, parking, and moving violations.
According to TicketGuard an average of 41 million
speeding tickets are issued each year within the U.S.
“which means everyday more than 112,000 drivers are
handed ticket fines that average $150”, says Levy.
TicketGuard offers nine different plans that are
available to everyone from teen drivers to senior
citizens, the company says that plan coverage is
available to any licensed driver regardless of previous
driving background. The coverage plans range in cost
from $14.95 for seniors and up to $49.95 for a family
of four plan however, the company adds that the
current plan prices are temporary and for launch
promotion. Regular rates range in cost from $22.95
for seniors and up to $75.95 for a family of four.

TicketGuard is the first company to offer such a
unique product to U.S. drivers. Company officials
anticipate a steady stream of drivers enrolling into its
plans. “Over 4,600 drivers are issued a traffic ticket
fine each hour across the U.S. and now we’ve
introduced a product that changes how drivers pay
traffic fines”, proclaims Levy.
Any driver wishing to enroll into the service must visit
the company website. Currently, the company is
offering free enrollment to all U.S. drivers waiving the
regular $19.95 enrollment fee during its launch
campaign period. The company allows individuals to
cancel enrollment and plan participation that comes
with a money back guarantee.
The company is confident that the innovative
coverage plans will be attractive to a large number of
drivers across the nation, trusting that drivers will
rather pay a small monthly premium in order to avoid
paying an expensive traffic ticket fine out of pocket.
