Welcome to our beautiful ci-ty and to the fifth edition of the second season of “The Sibenik Times”. It seems that the whole of the Sibenik County is holding a clean up action in recent weeks. From collecting old paper to dred-ging the sea bed of dumped car tyres, the last weeks have seen it all. I am personally a very active ecological person; I always recyc-le whenever I can, use ecological friendly products whenever possi-ble and help eco actions. So I greet these recent clean ups with very open arms and hope that they are a sign of things to come. Its beyond me belief how someone can drop litter on the streets let alone in a national park, so after these actions I hope the natu-re will stay clean at least for the foreseeable future. Not only am I impressed that so many local organisations can come together to actually do something positive I also happy that younger people are getting involved. Teaching our children the importance of living in an ecologically friendly environment is the key. Not only do these young minds seem wi-llingly to learn they are also happy to be involved in a more practical manner. Good for them! I would like to take this opportunity to gi-ve my best wishes to the citizens of Primošten in this special week. I know that the Day of Primošten is a much respected day in their calendar and I’m sure they will turn up in large numbers to ce-lebrate. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the big day on the 10th of May but I wish everyone all the best.

Croatia has started with a complete ban on smoking from Wednesday the 6th of May. Smoking at bars will only be allowed on terraces, while resta-urants would have the possibili-ty of allocating a separate room for smokers.

Also, the bill ban smoking on all work places. Smoking has

already been banned in health, social institutional and educati-on facilities. The new bill also introduces a special health war-ning on every pack of cigarettes. Health Minister Darko Milinovic said with the new law the gover-nment want to change people’s smoking habits and protect non-smokers.

Croatia’s first gift to US Pre-sident Barack Obama is to be a suit from top Croatian fashion house Trogir. The ‘ethnic’ style suit, designed by Trogir designer Boris Buric Gena, will be deli-vered in person to the Obama camp by the mayor of Biograd, a small town in Zadar County. Mayor Ivan Knez’s meeting wi-th Obama in Washington on 9 May will be the first time a Cro-atian official has met the new US president. The Obama camp had sent over his full body me-asurements to the Biograd go-vernment after they requested his sizing to have the suit made. Knez received a White House invitation as deputy head of the ‘Mayors for Peace’ associa-

tion that includes the mayors of 2,800 cities around the world, the daily ‘Slobodna Dalmaci-ja’ reported. The suit has been created according to the ethnic tradition and it has two waistco-ats, three sateen belts and four satin scarves. Talking about his suit Gena said: “President Oba-ma has ideal proportion with the high of 184 centimetres, so I made for him ready-made number 52. I considered carefu-lly the colours I have chosen, so I believe the fashion accessories colour of champagne will be just the right suit for him.” And Gena had some tips for the US Presi-dent: “I would suggest he wears a pocket watch and simple black shoes with it.”

The Embassy of the United States in Croatia announced it will issue visas for Croatian resi-dents, tourist and business even up to ten years from 23 April. According to Croatian national television HRT those moves are the result of Croatia’s excellent relationship with the USA. The

ten years visa is a maximum allowed by the US State Depar-tment, and until now has been five years for Croatian citizens. The US Embassy welcomed the move saying it will make trave-lling easier but also improve ot-her forms of exchange between the two countries.

Croatia is set to see a signi-ficant rise in the number of visiting religious tourists, with pilgrims likely to shrug off eco-nomic worries and take a villa holiday to a number of key sites across the country. According to the World Religious Travel Asso-

ciation (WRTA), 2009 is set to be the year of religious tourism, with several countries set to benefit. These include Croatia and as such, tourism industry leaders are gearing up for a bo-om in demand for Croatian villas and other services.

As Croatia is aligning its laws with the European Union its government has recognised skipper permits from another nine countries. Along with the citizens of Hungary and Slova-kia, with whom Croatia already has an agreement on skipper’s permits;. Citizens from another nine countries from now will be able to skipper a boat on the Croatian Adriatic this summer. This mutual agreement allows the citizen of Austria, Italy, Ger-many, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Norway and Canada. Croatian Government has decided to take this step In order to facilitate navigation by foreign boaters on the Croatian

Adriatic. The permits must be issued by partners recognized by the Croatian Government i.e. by the Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. Hence the safe navigation along the Croatian Adriatic isn’t jeo-pardized. From the Ministry ad-ded that the certificates or certi-ficates for the leader of boats or yachts recognized to the extent that identical conditions for the acquisition of the appropriate authority according to Croatian regulations. It is expected that this agreement will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the business operation within the fastest growing Croatian to-urism branch- nautical tourism.

According to the latest real estate report by the Centar ne-kretnina web portal, there was a minor correction of prices in the real estate market in 1Q 2009. In order to stimulate the market, some banks launched promotio-nal home sale offers, but witho-ut a considerable effect. Howe-ver, the initiative also showed that developers could afford to cut their prices by ten per cent, or so, and banks can keep their rates frozen. The expected mo-

mentum failed to arrive, because of an overall uncertain economic outlook and expectation for pri-ces to drop further, analysts say. They expects economic forecast for the remainder of the year to play a key role in the Croatian real estate market. A picture is not rosy, for now.

They are in-variably family run. “The patron is often an eccentric character bent over a sizzling grill with a cigarette clamped between his teeth.” She added that portions at these restaurants were “gene-rous”, meaning it was often po-ssible to share, while many sold locally produced Croatian wine.

The growing popularity of de-stinations outside of the costly Eurozone, including Croatia, could help a number of smaller UK airports weather the current economic turbulence, it has been claimed. While passenger demand on many routes out of the UK has fallen markedly over recent months, as consumers struggle with declining levels of disposable income alongside unfavourable exchange rates, the chief executive of Kent In-ternational has argued that de-stinations such as Croatia could throw both airlines and airports a valuable lifeline this summer. Earlier this month, Forbes maga-zine named Croatia as one of the cleanest countries to visit in the whole world, pointing out that its popular beaches and spotless all year round.

The commission proposed by Olli Rehn would favour the Slovenian side, Hannes Swo-boda said. In this situation, I support Croatia 100 percent! Olli Rehn should summon a meeting of Slovene and Croatian foreign affairs ministers so that a joint solution can be sought. The whole situation will lead to Croatia`s European Union acce-ssion being prolonged, so that accession talks might be finali-sed by the end of 2010 and then the accession procedure lasts a year and a half. I believe it is re-alistic that Croatia will become a member of the European Union on January 3, 2012 – Dr. Hannes Swoboda concluded.


Murter is a wondrous place ruling over its "overseas colo-nies" - islands and islets, and, most of all, the pearl of the en-tire Mediterranean - the Korna-ti Archipelago. When you say Murter, you are also saying the name of many other islands at the same time. Multiply one island into hundreds and you begin to get the picture of the divine generosity of the lands-cape in which nature and God spared no pains.

Since 1740 the island has been called murter. although it still hasn’t been sci-entifically proven, recently it is considered more likely that the name murter is related to the

ancient excavated trough, part of the oil press, which was called mortarium. the word mortar, mortario translates to Croatian as “mužar”, “stupa” – they are names for containers used for hand grinding crops, while “stupa” is also used as a name for a press. the oldest public library in dal-matia was founded in 1866, and it had an important role in the Croatian national revival. Gram-mar school and post office were founded in 1877, while the Co-operative of Oil Producers was founded in 1910. Betina and tisno were founded during the period of turkish incursions into the Šibenik area in the 16th century.

ence. Murter is a settlement on the northeast part of the island of the same name. Its name was at first Veliko Selo (from the 13th century) and Srimač; since 1715 it bears its current name. It spreads towards the Hramina Cove, where a marina has been built, and to the Sla-nica cove, which features the most beautiful beach of the Sibenik Riviera, as well as the camp and hotel "Colentum". Hramina cove is protected from all winds and makes for a safe shelter for yachts.

Murter's economic basis re-sts on agriculture, fishing and tourism. It is situated on the regional traffic route and has a population of 2000. In the tourist season the number of

inhabitants becomes much gre-ater - approximately four times as great. Murter is definitely an exceptional place for a tourist to visit. Nowhere else on the Adriatic coast does a district centre offer so many varied spatial and cultural features in one place.

Murter is the largest set-tlement on the island of the same name, which has the greatest number of islands in its archipelago (over 170), with a large number of sandy beaches along its coastline, as well as numerous interesting destinations in its vicinity (the national parks: Kornati, Pa-klenica, and Krka; the nature parks of Telašćica and Vransko Lake; the cities of Zadar, Sibe-

nik, and Split). It is possible to find accommodation in family houses and apartments. Those who favour quiet and fishing will find peace on Kornati, in the fishermen's houses. Spe-cialized restaurants and inns offer a wealth of gastronomic specialities. The remains of Ro-man buildings, the remains of the antic settlement Colentum, can be found at the foot of the Gradine elevation, in the Hra-mina cove and elsewhere. The local graveyard, where Early Croatian graves were found, is situated on the Gradina cape.

At the graveyard one fin-ds the church of Our Lady in Gradina, dating from the 17th century. The parish church of St. Michael (reconstructed in

1770) features a Baroque al-tar, the work of masters Pio and Vicko dall' Acqua, as well as one Creto-Venetian icon. A Gothic-Renaissance procession cross, as well as a few more va-luable pictures, can be found in the parish office. Above the village, on the Vršina hill, is the church of St. Rocco, dating from 1760. During the sum-mer you can attend concerts of classical and popular music in Murter, and the local church singing is quite special. A major cultural event is the regatta of traditional ships, held under the name Latinsko idro (Latin sail) every year at the end of September, on the feast day of St. Michael, the patron saint of the town.

The natural beauty and natural facili-ties with which both God and nature en-dowed this island and the neighbouring islets are familiar to almost everyone. From beautiful sandy beaches on Mur-ter, to steep rock cliffs of the islands of Kornati, from the bare and stony Kornati countryside to the soft valleys in picture-

sque coves, they all come together like a continuous story, an epopee of human endeavour. Because nether Kornati or Murter or just postcards of cleanliness and untouched beauty, their strength and attractiveness comes from the will of the people to form this sometimes unfriendly region to the measures of man.

Prirodna ljepota i prirodne pogodno-sti kojima su Bog i priroda obdarili ovaj otok i njegovo otočje gotovo su svima po-znate. Od prekrasnih pješčanih plaža na Murteru, do strmo odsječenih otoka u Kornatima, od gola kornatskog krša do mekih hladovina u slikovitim uvalama,

slaže se jedna neprekidna priča, jedna epopeja ljudskoj požrtvovnosti. Jer, ni Kornati ni Murter nisu samo razglednice čiste i nedirnute prirode. Njihova snaga i privlačnost izviru iz napora i volje da se surovi i ponekad neprijateljski krajolik uredi po mjeri čovjeka.

Action – rubbish for flowers

Akcija – cvijeće za smeće

Under the organisation of the eco-logical society “Argonauta”, the tourist board of Murter – Kornati as well as the company Murtela a special action was held on the 25th of April. This action was entitled “Rubbish for flowers” and marked the worldwide day of the “Planet Earth.” The action collected old paper in exchange for planting flowers. And had the primary goal of educating citizens on the importance of recycling rubbish. On the day over 6350 kg of old paper was

collected which is truly a great result. Children from the primary scholl of Mur-ter also lent a hand in the action and the best “collectors” were the children in the third grade. On the same day, and again under the organisation of “Argonauta”, another action was held around the islan-ds of Kornati. This action entitled “The Sea is life” cleaned the seas and seabed around the islands. Around fifteen divers from various local clubs got involved in the clean up.

U organizaciji Ekološke udruge Argo-nauta, Turističke zajednice Murter – Kor-nati, te komunalnog poduzeća Murtela u subotu 25. travnja, a povodom Dana planeta Zemlje održana je akcija «Cvije-će za smeće»; akcija prikupljanja starog papira u zamjenu za sadnice cvijeća. Da je primarni cilj, edukacija mještana o važ-nosti reciklaže smeća, ostvaren svjedoči

velik odaziv mještana te ukupno 6 350kg starog papira.

Akciji su se pridružila i djeca o.š. Murterski škoji te su se kao najbolji ‘sa-kupljači’ pokazali učenici trećeg razreda. Isti dan, u organizaciji Ekološke udruge Argonauta, a u sklopu akcije More je život III na području Kornatskog otočja održala se akcija čišćenja podmorja.


The Borough of Primošten is preparing for the biggest day in its calendar. The 10th of May is not only the Day of the City but also the Day of the Borough and perhaps more importantly the festival of the Blessed Lady of Loreta the patron saint of the region.

With organisation well under way “The Sibenik Times” spoke to the Mayor of the Borough, Mr. Stipe Petrina, to see what this day means to him. On the 10th of May will be the day of the City of Primošten. What does this festival mean to you?

Without doubt this is the bi-ggest day of the year for me. It is not only the Day of the City of Primošten but also the day of the festival of “Gospe od Lore-ta.” (Blessed lady of Loret) She is the patron saint of the region and on this day we will also ce-lebrate the Day of the Borough of Primošten. This is a huge day for Primošten and for me and my family by far the biggest day of the year. The borough and city have or-ganised many events to mark

Općina Primošten se pripre-ma za najznačajnji dan u svom kalendaru. Deseti svibnja nije samo Dan grada, nego i Dan općine Primošten, a najvažnija blagdan je onaj Gospe od Loreta, zaštitnice grada. O organizaciji i tijeku priprema za taj događaj, te o značenju blagdana za njega osobno „The Šibenik Times“ je razgovarao s načelnikom općine, gospodinom Stipom Petrinom.Desetog svibnja proslaviti će se Dan grada Primoštena. Što Vama znači ta svečanost?

Za mene je bez premca to najvažniji dan u godini. To nije samo Dan grada već je i blag-dan Gospe od Loreta. Gospa od Loreta je zaštitnica cijele regije, tako da tog dana proslavljamo i Dan općine Primošten. Veliki je to dan za Primošten, a za mene i moju obitelj naznačajnii dan u godini.Kako bi se obilježio taj dan općina i grad organizirali su mnoštvo različitih događanja. Koja od njih ćete posjetiti?

this day, which events will you go to?

Absolutely all citizens of Pri-mošten and those who feel citi-zens of Primošten will go to the main procession on the 10th of May. As the Mayor of the Boro-ugh I will go to all of the events in the program and I’m looking forward to them. As Primošten is a tourist de-stination how is the season progressing this year?

The best word to describe it so far would be fantastic! Com-pared with other tourist desti-nations in other parts of the co-untry we have had a great start and the indicators look great for the future. This season we have seen a 25% increase in bookings compared to last year which is truly fantastic. Not only is the season going to plan in fact its better than planned. Are the majority of guests staying for shorter periods than before?

Nowadays it’s rare to find guests that stay for 2 weeks or longer. The majority of guests are staying for longer than 3 or 4 days, I would have to say that

a week is about the average now. How have the celebrations for the Day of Primošten changed over the years?

The celebrations have, for as long as I know, always been held on the 10th of May. The main procession is a long stan-ding tradition and hasn’t chan-ged in character since its very beginnings. Apart from the traditional procession the other events surrounding change ye-ar after year. The day before the festival, on the 9th of May, fires are lit in the city which I believe is unique in Croatia. There is a tradition that everyone, chil-dren and adults alike, smoke a cigarette on the eve of the Day of Primošten. But don’t get me wrong it’s not a normal cigarette but a special one made from healing herbs that grow in the surroundings, and when I say smoke I really mean that it’s the custom to take one short puff. It’s important to keep our local cultures and traditions and to remember our roots. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all citizens of the Borough of Pri-mošten a great day.

Zasad mogu reći samo jed-no: fantastično! U usporedbi s ostalim turističkim odredištima u osta-lim dijelovima na-še zemlje imamo izvrstan početak i sve govori da će i u ubuduće sve biti vrlo dobro. U odno-su na prošlu godinu u ovoj sezoni vidljiv je porast rezervacija od 25% što je zaista izvrsno. Ne samo da će sezona biti kao što smo plani-rali već puno bolje od tog.Hoće li većina gostiju skrati-ti svoj boravak u odnosu na prethodne godine?

U današnje vrijeme rijetko će-mo pronaći goste koji odsjedaju 2 tjedna i dulje. Većina gostiju ostaje nesto duže od tri-četiri da-na, mogu slobodno reći da bi se-

dam dana bio nekakav prosjek.Kako se proslava Dana Primo-sten izmijenila tokom godina?

Proslava se, koliko ja pamtim, oduvijek održavala 10-tog svib-nja. Glavna procesija je dugogo-dišnja tradicija i nepromijenjena je od samog početka. Jedino što se mijenjalo su popratna doga-

đanja. Dan prije proslave, 9-tog svibnja, u gradu

se pale vatre, što je, vjerujem, jedinstve-no u Hrvatskoj. To je tradicija da svi, djeca i odrasli, za-pale cigaretu uoči

Dana općine Primo-šten. Nemojte me kri-

vo shvatiti, ne govorimo o običnim cigaretama, već o po-sebnoj vrsti napravljenoj od lje-kovitih trava koje rastu uokolo, a kad kažem zapaliti cigaretu, pri tom mislim na povlačenje samo jednog kratkog dima. Cultural monuments

Sibenik began using its he-raldic seal with the image of Sibenik’s Patron St Mihovil, to-gether with other Dalmatian ci-ties. The image of St Mihovil can be found on the Sibenik munici-pality seal, as it was customary that the image or motive on the coat of arms is used on the se-al as well. Although the town's coat of arms from the time of its the earliest use has not been preserved, there is a document with the town district seal on it that can serve as evidence of the appearance of the district's coat of arms. The seal is found on a letter (dated 18th October 1255) from the Sibenik district and di-ocese to the Prenestine bishop

The portrayal of St Mihovil on the coat of arms, as the invincible and the strongest of all angles, symbolizes the fighting spirit and strength of medi-eval Sibenik. It served as a warning to the town’s ene-mies that the citizens will follow the example of their patron in the protection of their rights. When carving the coat of arms in stone, Si-benik citizens used to place it on visible and prominent spots trying to demonstrate their com-munal autonomy, which needed

to be reaffirmed and defen-ded in the turbulent Middle Ages. One of the first seals preserved in Croatian langu-age dates from 1878 when the town district came into the hands of the people. The seal is bordered with the si-gn: "Obćinsko opraviteljstvo Šibensko" which today rou-ghly translates as: "Sibenik - township". Town's coat of arms with St Mihovil’s ima-ge had been used since 1926 when the Ministry of Police

banned the use of all district and regional coats of arms and

seals. From the end of 1939, when the ban was lifted, it has reaffirmed its usage.


Sibenik's fortifications

The fortresses of Sibenik are weaved into the history of the city, the four main forts dominate the city skyline and are an interesting sight for tourists and locals alike. The starting point of the old city walls was the Fortress of St. Michael. In 1864 a part of the wall that surrounded the city from the

north and the south was removed. Today, only the northern side of the wall by Gorica remains, a part of the wall through the park towards the shore, a small section of the wall near Poljana, as well as remains of a bulwark from the 17th century behind Hotel Krka. The best preserved section is the

double city wall which slopes from the Fortress of St. Michael towards the shore (Kvartir) and ends with great Gothic gate. The western wall in Dolac with a city gate, which slopes from the fortress to the sea, was built in the 15th century so that Dolac could be protected from Turkish attacks.

THE FORTRESS OF

ST. MICHAELThe Fortress of St. Michael is located

at a height of 70m above the sea behind the old city agglomeration. It was built, in the period from the

15th to 17th century, out of dressed white stone. Through archeological research, remains of a culture from

the prehistoric Iron Era have been found, which proves that the fortress was built by Croats in the place that was once know as the station of the old Illyrians. There are two entrances

to the fortress; one is located at the wall towards the old cemetery and

the other on the north side.

THE FORTRESS OF ST. JOHN

The Fortress of St. John is located on a hill 115m high on the northern side of the historic city core. It was raised

in 1646 according to the project of the Venetian military engineer Antonio Leni. A year later, in 1647,

heavy battles were being held with the army of the Turkish pasha Tekeli

who wanted to take over the fortress in order to rule the city.

THE ŠUBIĆEVAC FORTRESSThe Šubićevac Fortress is located southeast of the fortress of St. John on somewhat of a lower height. Since it was built the same year as the Fortress of St. John it has significantly contributed to blocking the Turkish attack on Šibenik.

THE FORTRESS OF ST. NICHOLASThe Fortress of St. Nicholas is located at the entrance to the St. Anthony Channel and it was built in the middle of the 16th century for defense from Turkish attacks from the sea. It was built according to the designs of the Venetian military builder Michiele Sammichella. The Fortress of St. Nicholas (having a triangle shape) is one of the strongest forts on our coast.

According to legend when God created the earth and seas he dro-pped a white stone into the sea and when he’d realised what he had done, and impressed with the beauty, he decided not to touch anything. That is how the islands of Kornati were formed, a labyrin-th of 152 islands, reefs and islets. This unique place is also renowned by countries with equally beautiful nature although not touched by the sea such as Austria, whose Alps and snowy peaks are stunningly magni-ficent. The closeness of the Adriatic Sea and the traditional and historic connections between Croatia and Austria have given birth to a gre-

at idea, a regatta which in early spring brings people directly from the ski slopes to the seas of Kor-natia and attracts more than 600 sailors. The sailing regatta “Kornati Cup” started in 1984, in fact it star-ted quite by chance when a group of nautical lovers sailed with their three yachts from Murter towards Pišker. By 1985, the Austria – Cro-atia regatta became popular and a total of 27 boats collected for the race. From 2001 the “Kornati Cup” has been organised in its current form, a unique bringing together of sport and fun, professional yach-ters and those for who the results are not so important.

staza na Kornate privlači više od 600 jedriličara. Jedriličar-ska regata Kornati kup nastala je na dan Male Gospe 1984. za-pravo slučajno, kada je skupi-na zaljubljenika u jedrenje sa tri broda isplovila sa Murtera prema Piškeri. Već naredne 1985. godine, ta prva regata u austrijsko-hrvatskoj koproduk-ciji okuplja 27 bodova i postaje tradicionalna u uskršnjem ter-minu. Od 2001. Kornati kup dobiva sadašnji organizacijski oblik, jedinstveni spoj sporta i zabave, profesionalnih jedrili-čara i onih kojima rezultat nije primaran.

The Sibenik – Knin County is full of interesting sights and sounds. Its history and tradition are rich, complicated and fascinating. Its nature and wildlife, inclu-ding two national parks, are unique and breathtaking.

Its cuisine and wine are world class.

The connection to the sea is unbreakable. And finally its people are friendly, gene-rous and warm. Every week we’ll bring you a few short fact files of different areas of life in the county so that you can better comprehend the culture that surrounds you.

Sibenik Rivera has a very indented coastline with numerous bays, ports, more than 240 islands, reefs and points including the national park of Kornati. The direct airline length of the coastline is 56.2 kilometers but in reality it is 806 kilometers long due to the amount of in-lets, rivers, bays and coves. The largest island in the Sibenik County is Kornat which has a surface area of 32,525,315

meters squared. The inhabited islands include Kopara, Gola Glava, Krapanj, Zlarin, Prvić, Tribunj, Kaprije, Žirje and Murter. On the island of Visovcu on the river Krka live Franciscan monks.

The island with the highest peak is Kornat with 237 meters, while the lowest inhabited islands are Krapanj, seven me-ters above sea level and Tribunj only two meters above sea level.

The island of Prvić is unique in the Si-benik County because it is the only island that has two settlements on it, they are Luka and Šepurina. The village of Prvić Luka was first inhabited in 1461, while Šepurina first took shape in the 16th cen-

tury. One of the greatest Croatian scienti-sts, writers, philosophers, inventors and historians Faust Vrančić is buried in the county church in Luka. In fact the society of public health is currently building a monument park for Faust Vrančić.

An islet in the midst of Viso-vačko lake, formed by the Krka river, homes a Franciscan mona-stery, a valuable monument of culture and history. It was first mentioned in 1400 as Lapis Al-ba (White Rock). It was finished in 1445, the church next to it in 1576. Numerous valuable histo-rical objects, paintings and do-cuments are kept here. Sultan Mehmed's "ferman" (a special order) to return the monastery to the Franciscans is a most va-luable rarity safeguarded there. Some of other valuable items are the cadastral map of Visovac, a collection of Ezop's fables- an incunabula printed in 1487, as well as the saber of folk hero Vuk Mandušić, killed in the fi-ghts against the Turks.

One of the most significant archeologi-cal sites in Croarian is located 17 kilome-ters from Šibenik, in the village of Danilo Gornje. A complex of Roman villas is lo-cated in the position of Šematorij, found on the site of Gradina were remains of

buildings and fortification system dating from the prehistoric era to the middle ages. The site on Bitinje answered many questions regarding Neolithics in Dalma-tia. The entire Neolithics cultural circle was named the Danilo Culture.

The first Šibenik hats were red, without any decorations. That first form of today’s hat was worn by the Illyrians, and it can be seen on the head sculptures around the St. James cathedral. Within time the hat changed its color, becoming orange and it also began to be decorated with spiral “boulas”.

The island of Murter is connected by a 38 me-ters long drawbridge with the mainland. On the island there is the old part of the village Tisno. The bridge opens each morning at 9 o'clock for 15 minutes (so that the mechanics don't get damaged by rust and oxidation), also then if no ships want to cross the bottleneck.

This is very simple Dalmatian reci-pe. Easy to make, delicious to taste.Take a large pot and put olive oil and heat it, but not too much. Add garlic and fry just 30 seconds and than add all shrimps. Using wooden ladle mix the shrimps to cover them with oil. Add wine and cook for 5 minutes until alcohol evaporates. Add to-mato, salt, raisins, pepper, bread crumbs. Mix gently with the ladle, or shake the whole pot to mix all ingredients. Cover and cook for 10-20 minutes (depends how large shrimps are). At the and add parsley leaves and serve.
