MS SWIMATHON SATURDAY, FEB 15 See you there!
In November, the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Stuart Robert announced the government’s plans to improve the NDIS. There
were six areas of focus announced, all of which have specific activities to deliv-
er on the promise of the NDIS. These six are:
• Quicker access and quality decision-making
• Increased engagement and collaboration
• Market innovation and improved technology
• A financially sustainable NDIS
• Equitable and consistent decisions
• Improve the long-term outcomes for people with disability, families and carers
Here’s a summary from Every Australian Counts with their take on the changes
Flexibility of Funding
From July 2020, participants will be able to move their funding between core and ca-
pacity building.
Help with Assessments
In 2020, the NDIA will roll out independent assessments for people
applying for access. The assessments will be paid for by the NDIA.
Previously, it has been up to the individual to access and pay for
their own assessments which can be a massive barrier to getting
access to the NDIS.
Draft Plans
From April 2020, you will be able to meet with your Local Area Coordinator, and a
planner to review your draft plan before it is approved. Previously you’ve simply re-
ceived your approved plan after your planning meeting rather than having a chance to
make sure the plan accurately reflects your goals and needs etc.
Reviews
You will now be able to make small changes to your plan without it
triggering a formal review.
There’s a few other things that the team at Every Australian Counts is
still closely monitoring and there’s been some positive progress so
far. These are:
◦Wait times for children have reduced but need to continue to be reduced.
◦The waitlist for assistive technology approvals has been halved but there are still
thousands of approvals waiting. There’s still work to be done here.
◦There are further changes coming for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in-
cluding allowing participants to live with partners, family or housemates

T oowoomba MS Wellness Clinic Update
Here’s an update on the who, what, and when of
the Toowoomba Wellbeing Centre.
NeuroPhysio and Exercise Therapy
The NeuroPhysio Toowoomba Team is Llynlly and
Lyndel. MS Queensland is taking bookings for physio
on Mondays and Tuesdays (8:30am – 4pm). They’re
looking at opening on a Wednesday provided there is the demand. Bookings can be
made for Exercise Therapy which is available Monday – Wednesday (9am – 5pm).
MS Queensland can also accommodate exercise therapy in the home. You can ask
any questions or book an appointment through our NeuroAssist Team on 1800
177 591.
Service Coordination
The Toowoomba Service Coordinators are Andrea
(pictured right) and Sally (pictured left). Andrea and Sally
are available to help you get the services and support you
need, including referrals, and general information and edu-
cation. Andrea and Sally are often out and about seeing cli-
ents, so if you’re looking for more information about Ser-
vice Coordination, get in touch with the Neu-
roAssist Team.
Got any questions for MS Queensland?
Contact the NeuroAssist team (pictured) – they
should be the first point of call for all things MS
Queensland. They can book physio appoint-
ments, help with My Aged Care access as well
as navigating the NDIS, provide information and
advice, and are a friendly ear.

MS Employment Support Service is specifically designed to address the needs of people living with
MS (or similar neurological conditions) who are having difficulty managing symptoms
in the workplace or seeking new employment. Our employment consultants can meet
you in your home or at one of MS Queensland’s Wellbeing Centres or office locations.
We currently serve the South East Queensland area but please contact our Neu-
roAssist InfoLine to find out how you can access this service from regional locations.
Helping you maintain your employment
Our service offers individualised support and assistance that
will help enable you to manage your symptoms and continue
working. Common symptoms that can make the workplace
challenging include:
• Trouble moving around the workplace
• Difficulty accessing the bathroom
• Problems with concentration and memory
• Stiffness and pain
• Fatigue
If you’re currently working but feel as though MS or your neurological condition is im-
pacting on your ability to work, our specialist team of allied health professionals will
assist you to identify the individual barriers you are experiencing at work and develop
strategies to help you to remain being a productive employee.
Did you know…
MS-related fatigue is one of the main reasons people prematurely leave the
workforce. Strategies to relieve the impact of fatigue in the workplace may in-
clude taking regular breaks, modifying work structure or hours, doing regular
exercise, modifying the workplace or using an adaptive piece of equipment.
To make an appointment with one of our employment consultants please
phone the NeuroAssist InfoLine on 1800 941 201 Monday – Friday between
7:30am – 6:30pm, or contact us on [email protected]. You can also request a
call back from our NeuroAssist team.

Covering around eight hectares, this park is a forest regeneration site where a natu-
ral eucalypt forest has been encouraged to develop. This bushland park provides
three small bush walks with great scenery and views east over the Great Dividing
Range, including Table Top Mountain. This park is ideal for walking with
children and those less mobile.
Wallaby Walk
Distance: 250 m one way Walking time: Approximately 10 min
Description: The walk starts at the picnic area, taking you to the Flagstone Lookout
along the way and to the Lockyer Lookout on the northern side of the park. This walk
is suitable for wheelchairs and mobility devices following the flat compacted gravel
circuit that joins it with part of the Squirrel Glider Circuit and the Link Walk.
Sensory Walk
Distance: 270 m one way Walking time: Approximately 5 min
Description: The walk starts at the picnic area and finishes at the intersection
of the Link Walk with the Squirrel Glider Circuit. It takes you through the native
forest where you can hear the bird sounds, feel the texture of the different
leaves and smell the scent of the plants. The Sensory Walk has a handrail
rope to assist vision impaired people to navigate the trail. The location of concrete
pavers indicates the placement of interpretive signage and double as passing bays
for wheelchairs. This walk is suitable for wheelchairs and mobility devices.
Disability parking is available now with toilet facilities coming soon
