TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — I will make a new covenant; I will write my law upon their hearts (Jeremiah 31:31-34) or Ezekiel 37:12-14. Psalm — Create a clean heart in me, O God (Psalm 51) or Psalm 130. Second Reading — Christ learned obedience and became the source of eternal salvation (Hebrews 5:7-9) or Romans 8:8-11. Gospel — If a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it produces much fruit (John 12:20-33) or John 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]. THE NEW COVENANT Today’s first reading is an enormously important passage, not only in the history of the Jewish people, but also for us as disciples of Jesus, who see in it a foreshadow-ing of the Christian dispensation. The prophet announces that God has chosen to forgive the people, and that as a sign of divine forgiveness a new covenant will be established. Contrasting the new covenant with the one made with Moses on Mount Sinai, Jeremiah says that the new covenant will be written on the people’s hearts rather than on tablets of stone. No longer will the community’s tradition be the sole bearer of the covenant; henceforth, God will speak directly and personally to each individual, forgiving sin and calling for a return to God in faithfulness. No longer will mere outward compliance with the dictates of the Law suffice; henceforth, God asks for an obedience that springs from the depths of one’s heart. Precisely that kind of obedience is highlighted in today’s second reading, where the author of the Letter to the Hebrews describes Jesus as the mediator of the new covenant whose obedience has made him the source of salvation for all who, in turn, obey him.

FEED YOUR HUNGRY NEIGHBORS Lockport churches donate to the Lockport Food Pantry known as FISH, the symbol of Christianity. They serve 750 to 800 People
monthly which is more than 250 local families. Our Lord would want us to share what we have been given with those who have less. Presently needed are canned beans, meats and fish, peanut butter, jellies, canned vegetables (especially corn & green beans, spaghetti & sauce, cereals, pancake mix and syrup. Soaps, bath tissue, paper products and shampoo are also needed. Thank you for your generosity. You will be blessed. Feeding the Hungry is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Funeral Mass Arrangements Upon the death of a loved one, a family member should contact the parish office as soon as possible (815-723-3291). You will be contacted by our bereavement coordinator, Anna Siwiec-Sitkowska, who will assist the family in planning the funeral liturgy for the deceased.
If it is too difficult for you to walk to the front of the church to receive Communion, please know that at each Mass an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion comes to the back of the church to distribute Communion. If you would like to have the Extraordinary Minister give you communion in the back of church, please let an usher know before Mass begins. At Communion time, when you see the Extraordinary Minister come to the back, please raise your hand so that they can see you and give you Holy Communion.

Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa Kim są Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa? W dzisiejszych czasach istnieje wiele przeszkód na drodze wiary, ale Mężczyzna Świętego Józefa to człowiek, który szuka Pana w swoim życiu: (Jer 29,13) “Będziecie Mnie szukać i znajdziecie Mnie, kiedy będziecie Mnie szukać z całego serca”. Nasz Pan Jezus Chrystus przyszedł, aby pokazać nam Miłość i my odkrywamy naszą rolę jako mężczyźni, którzy dostrzegają potrzeby inne niż poszukiwanie mocy i przywilejów (Łk 22,25). Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa to mężczyźni którzy "wspierają się nawzajem i wzajemnie się budują" (1Tes 5,11) i trwają w Bogu(Jan 15). W rezultacie Mężczyzna Świętego Józefa jest spełniony przez odnajdywanie radości życia bożego w celach, jakie odkrywa dla swojego życia (Kol. 1,9-12). Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa to katolicka sieć mężczyzn. Spotkanie Grupy w naszej parafii odbędzie się w pierwszy czwartek miesiaca, o 7:30 pm. Serdecznie zapraszamy.
FEAST OF FAITH - The First Reading
Each Sunday, we listen to three scripture readings. The first reading usually comes from the Old Testament. “The New Testament lies hidden in the Old; the Old Testament comes fully to light in the New,” we read in the Introduction to the Lectionary. “Christ himself is the center and fullness of the whole of Scripture” (5). On Sundays, these readings usually have a close connection to the Gospel. In this season of Lent, for example, the Exodus account of the thirst of the Israelites in the desert is paired with the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus at the well. Ezekiel’s vision of the Lord raising people from their graves is paired with the narrative of Christ raising Lazarus from the dead. The readings are taken from many sources—historical books like Judges, Kings, and the Acts of the Apostles, prophets like Isaiah and Ezekiel, wisdom literature like Proverbs or Ecclesiastes. But no matter its genre, the first reading always ends with the same acclamation: “The word of the Lord.” The scriptures are written by human authors who wrote in widely different cultural and historical contexts, but these human authors are also divine instruments through whom God speaks to us. And so we say, “Thanks be to God.”
Almsgiving Toiletry/Food Drive St. John Vianney will be having a Toiletry/Food Drive during the Lenten season to help the needy in these tough times. The following items are needed: deodorant, body wash, razors, shaving cream, body spray, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, chapstick, loofah sponges, Q-tips, ultra-thin pads, baby wash, baby lotion, baby powder, XL-XXL Men’s T-Shirts, diapers (sizes 4, 5, 6), baby wipes, earbuds, travel size umbrellas, 33-gallon black garbage bags, Ziploc bags (quart and gallon size), laundry detergent (small bottles), fingernail clippers, small bottles of medicine (Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Imodium, Benadryl, etc.) Gift cards are always welcome or if you can support the CMAA, your gift is especially important this year, during the pandemic as we help the ones in need. St. John Vianney Reservation Policy
Most mass reservations have been at capacity lately resulting in not allowing everyone who wants a reservation to get one. Unfortunately, not everyone has been showing up for their reservation which prevents
others from attending mass.
Therefore, effective immediately, reservations need to be made or canceled by Noon on Friday for the upcoming weekend.
Individuals who fail to cancel by Noon on Friday or who do not show up for their reservation, will not be allowed to make reservations for the next 4 subsequent weeks if there were people on the waitlist for that
mass. It is not our intent to punish anyone but rather ensure that the maximum number of people can attend mass especially during the Lenten and Easter seasons.

We have openings for the Eternal Flame intentions. The offering is $10 and it will

Intercessions Concerning the Coronavirus ♦ Lord Jesus, you healed those who were sick and cared for any who were suffering. Be with us now as we pray for all those who may be affected by the Coronavirus. ♦ That our leaders may have the humility and wisdom to enact timely policies that embody compassion for all who will suffer from the coronavirus, especially those who can least afford to deal with its effects, we pray. ♦ That we will not allow fear to rule our actions and reactions to the spread of this virus, we pray. ♦ That health-care workers and others who, because of their work, come in contact with people who are infected with this illness may be protected from its effects, we pray. ♦ That those throughout the world who have been infected may be blessed with a speedy and complete recovery, we pray. ♦ That those who have died from the Coronavirus may be raised to new life in heaven, and that their loved ones may know comfort in their grief, we pray.
