Ash Wednesday

Pancake Supper Dear Friends,

I pray that all is well with you and your family!

This Sunday is a significant day in the Christian year. It is called “Transfiguration

Sunday.” Each year Transfiguration Sunday celebrates the glory of Christ before

Ash Wednesday and the passion of the season of Lent. When we read the Gospels,

Mark 9:1–8, Matthew 17:1–8, and Luke 9:28–36, we find that the Transfiguration of

Jesus serves as a type of bridge between the public ministry of Jesus and his journey

to the cross.

A prayer that is sometimes prayed in churches on Transfiguration Sunday is this

one:

glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith

the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross,

and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus

Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 217)

I love the part of the prayer where congregants are encouraged to pray together that

we, “may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from

glory to glory.” What a prayerful and powerful invitation!

My Jerusalem – March 3rd What Is My Jerusalem?

Like the story of Jerusalem in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, The

Way 2 Serve seeks to rebuild the broken walls of homes in Opelika and

Auburn and restore the hearts of the people who live in them. It takes all of

us together - you are needed in the community.

Let's Rebuild!

Hundreds of Christians of all ages will gather together on this day to share

God's love with broken people right here in Opelika and Auburn. Individuals

and small groups are needed. This is a great way for Sunday School classes

to serve together BEYOND the walls of AUMC. Contact Keith at
