Boots recommended as there are some long squishy bridleways and some rough surfaces. Not suitable for buggies. The Venue: The Horseshoe, www.baronspubs.com/horseshoe, is a popular dog friendly pub / restaurant. Booking is essential for midday meals. It opens at noon and does food all day. It has a car park which fills very quickly. Aim to park in the free on Sunday car park just north of the green (see map) or the nearby side streets. The neighbouring White Lion also does food. OS Grid Reference: TQ 358 585. Directions: From Croydon: Head south on the A235, Brighton Road, and fork left onto the B269, Sanderstead Road. Continue on the B269, Limpsfield Road. At Warlingham Green take the south exit and fork left into Farleigh Road - 100 yards to the Horseshoe. Look for parking in the nearby side streets, or go back around the green to the free on Sunday car park (see map). From the M25 Junction 6: Head north on the A22 to Whyteleafe. Turn right onto B270, Hillbury Road, to Warlingham Green. Then take the south exit as above. Public Transport: The 403 bus runs from West Croydon station. You will need an Oyster card, a Travelcard or a contactless payment card. The buses leave at 08 / 28 / 48 past the hour and take 30 minutes. The return buses run until midnight. Distance: 3.0 miles Time allowed: 4 hours

Start

The answers are all on the right hand side of the pub looking inwards.

1 Gourmands and diners are warned to stay safe, as Gino and Gordon make gestures of faith?

2 Learner drops out from glandular trouble.

3 i.e. withdrawal leads to the French equivalent of Brexit - stay well away.

Stage 1 325 yds

Turn left from the pub 150 yards to the play area where the stage starts. Proceed ahead. Soon turn right through allotments. Stage ends at road.

4 Trump downsizing? It's not his sort of vanity building project at all.

5 The oldest swinger in town? Nearly bald and rather ropy.

6 It takes a special combination to release abuser without hesitation.

Stage 2 600 yds

There are no clues on the initial road section. Turn left along road to reach a mini-roundabout after 400 yards. Clues start at Farleigh Road sign. Turn right and soon cross over to bridleway. Follow this to a main road.

7 Bio fuel and fossil fuel are the future!

8 Alec, Sandra reported on horseback?

9 Health and Safety - it's child's play. We made do with a ladder in our day.

Stage 3 550 yds

Turn left along the road. At the green cross over and follow narrow path towards the pub. The stage ends at the Bull Inn pub car park.

Stage 4 550 yds

Turn left past the Bull Inn pub and follow road to a T junction. Turn left and soon reach a cross roads. Turn right and follow road to school entrance chicane. Turn left along the footpath and follow it to a bridge over the path.

12 Fake news? These early risers can't agree where the setting sun should be.

Spare A Slow down to overtake!

13 A place where bias is evident, e.g. Nigel Brown is bent.

Stage 5 725 yds

Continue along footpath to a four way junction. Turn left and follow path to where it crosses a wide track where a row of houses start. Carry on straight behind the house gardens until a left turn appears at roundabout. Cross road to the Warlingham village sign where the stage ends.

15 Deranged wary vet had a gun walking along here.

17 Knows in retreat, strangely, that you chose discretion.

18 There's Harvey rowing - joining the leaders at the halfway mark

Stage 6 650 yds

There are no clues on the initial road section. Head along Farleigh Road to reach a public bridleway sign on the right after 550 yards. Follow the path down a steep hill and up the other side to reach a four way junction at a kissing gate.

19 Sewer does appear to be backed up in here, but the rest is seen to be strangely clean.

Spare B "Mother please, mind your knees".

20 Press the metal to the pedal? No bay racers here thank you.

21 An honest pair for resting pierced ears.

Stage 7 725 yds

Turn right along track to kissing gate at a church graveyard. Enter and keep on left hand path. There are no gravestone clues. Exit at church main entrance and turn left. Follow this lane past houses on right to a green kissing gate. Go through gate along path to a T junction. Turn left into the play area behind the pub. Turn right. The walk ends at play area main gates.

22 "It's why I should be replaced" the red leader said. Or was he misquoted?

23 A "Down", "Sit", "Beg" combination of commands is appropriate here.
