Food Reintroduction

• Great way to gauge how the food makes you feel and if it causes problems for you.

• It’s possible to have a food allergy or intolerance that you don’t know about.

• Introduce one new food every 48 hours and track how you feel in the food journal.

• If a reaction occurs, remove food and wait 72 hours before reintroducing the next food.

Try Some New Veggies

Jicama is a crispy, sweet, edible root that resembles a turnip in physical appearance, although the plants are not related. Jicama has been cultivated in South America for centuries, and the vegetable is quite popular in Mexican cuisine.

Rutabaga

The rutabaga is a root vegetable which is often confused with a turnip, because it resembles an oversized turnip. While related, the two vegetables are actually entirely different. Rutabagas are popular in Northern European countries, because they do well in cold weather, leading to their alternate name, the “Swedish turnip.”

My favorite garlic to use! Warning: do not eat before social events where close conversation will be taking place!

Try Local Beef and Chicken

Look for grass-fed and grass-finished beef as those animals may be less likely to have antibiotic and hormone exposure. Check with your local co-ops first. I recommend the eat wild website: www.eatwild.com. You can look for your state and locale. Look for chickens and eggs that are “free range.” This means that the chickens are running around outside with Dr. Sunshine. Our local “chicken lady” grows heirloom wheat and barley grass for the chickens to eat. And they also eat insects, like mealworms. We get our eggs and also get chickens from her when available. I also recommend www.localharvest.org as another source to find local and organic chickens and eggs.

Does your food make you look pretty? Cosmetic Chemicals in Fast Food?! This is another reason why whole foods are better than processed foods. Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate: found in shampoo and soap. Reasoning for use: “dough conditioner” in burger buns. Calcium Disodium EDTA: found in skin products and hair conditioners to stabilize. Reasoning for use: flavor protectant in fast food sauces, dips and dressings. Ammonium Glycyrrhizin: found in facial mask products. Reasoning for use: flavor enhancer and flavoring agent. Propylene Glycol: found in shampoo, mouthwash & hand sanitizers. Reasoning for use: gives most of today’s food and beverages their distinctive taste. Benzoyl Peroxide: found in acne creams. Reasoning for use: bleaching wheat flower to look white.

Daily Diet for Your New Normal

• Continue to eat whole foods and limit high-calorie, refined foods and oils/trans-fats.

• Need nutrient-rich, high-fiber, whole, unprocessed foods to protect your body.

• Plan one week at a time; continue to use One Degree of Change: The Standard Process 21-Day Purification Program Cookbook for creative menu planning.

• Continue your shakes every morning.

• Have your health care professional weigh you at the 30-day mark.

Don’t underestimate the number of calories/nutrients in food

Prepare for social gatherings

Use new foods so you don’t get bored

Limit highly processed/refined foods in your food planning

Portion Control

It is important for you to know the amounts of food you are eating. You won’t always have a measuring spoon or cup with you. So I put together a visual way to help you measure. Here is what I recommend to my patients:

1 cup = size of a baseball ¾ cup = size of a tennis ball ½ cup = size of a computer mouse ¼ cup = size of an egg 3 oz. = size of a deck of cards 2 Tbsp. = size of a ping pong ball

Our human tendencies will take us right back to the bad foods that made us feel bad in the first place!

Healthy Habits • Incorporate exercise into your daily routine.

• Walking 30-45 minutes, 5-6 days a week is recommended. (Find something you enjoy doing!)

• Sweating is good! It helps get rid of toxins, so try to sweat a few times a week through exercise, saunas, etc.

• Get enough sleep and try to keep your sleep schedule consistent.

• Practice stress-management techniques so you are at your best mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Remember, you can continue this protocol for a lifetime–make this your new normal!
