The Winning mindset Are you unhappy when others are succeeding? Does your success seem dependent on someone else’s failure?  “Keeping up with the Joneses” is an expression that is commonly used to describe the attitude of always wanting to keep up with the neighbors in terms of possessions and wanting to hae the things that our neighbors hae! "ny is another word that can be used to describe this frame of mind! #his is a ery appropriate word because it encompasses greed$ %ealousy$ resentment and a strong desire for something somebody else has$ usually at whateer cost! Winning mindset - origins &nfortunately$ it is an attitude that is widespread! #hroughout our childhood and most of our adult life$ competition is the order of the day! 'ight from our school days we are taught that our self worth is measured in relation to other people! At school$ our grading system gies you a number at the end of the term! (f you “pass number one” that mean s you are the best in your clas s! (f you “pass numb er )*” that means there are )+ other kids that are better than you are! ,o if you want to be number one and “win” you must make sure that all the other kids “lose” and pass number two or more! -ait a minute though$ why can’t all the kids in class pass number one? -hy must we compare one child to another? A simple pass or fail remark on the report card might be sufficient without necessarily stating numbers! &nfortunately for children$ parents take these numbers ery seriously! #his carries on through life! -e sometimes ensure that we do not allow others to get too much knowledge or .ualifications so as retain our position in the company! (n fact$ at times we deliberately frustrate any efforts by our peers to progress! "en amongst friends and relaties this occurs! ,ibling rialry does not always end when children grow up! A lot of times it continues! #he success of one child in adulthood is measured against the success of another! (t seems whateer we hae achieed seems insignificant when compared to what so and so has done or ac.uired! Winning mindset – dangers of the loser mentality #here are seeral reasons why eny is such a problem! /irstly$ if you are enious of another person’s success that means you will neer be satisfied with anything you eer achiee! #he fact remains that most times there will always be someone that does better than you in some area! ,econdly$ if you are enious of other people’s success it means you hae no clue what you want for your own life! Just because the Joneses hae it or do this and that does not mean you should hae it or do it! -ill it help you in achieing your own ob%ecties and “minding your own business?” (f you hae a clear ision for your life$ what another person achiees or ac.uires won’t matter0 you will know exactly where you are$ why you are there$ where you need to go and what you need to do to get there! #hirdly$ carried to some extremes$ enious people will een try to cripple the progress of others and stop it if possible! 'ather than channel their energy into their own success they channel it into this ery unproductie mindset0 backstabbing$ sabotaging$ destroying at eery chance they get and spending their prime time on thinking about others instead of thinking of ways to improe their own situation!
