for the Preservation & Encouragement of
Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc.
proudly presents our
Saturday, September 19th, 7PM
Codorus Church of the Brethren,
Dallastown, PA
From President David Kelly:
2015 marks another year of progress for the White Rose Chorus. I have seen improvement in every aspect of
what it means to be a men’s singing organization – leadership, financial outlook, weekly attendance, visibility,
and of course that barbershop sound. I feel the current group of guys is singing better than we have in the 7
years I have been with the organization. The guys are holding their heads up high and deservedly so. We are the
current single “A” plateau champions in the Western Division. It is a nice stepping stone heading to our next
competitive goal of being advancing to the “AA” plateau.
As I have said on many occasions, nothing in this hobby can be done single-handedly. All of the progress we
have made can be attributed to the hard work that each and every one of the guys had contributed. There have
been multiple contributions from the spouses as well beyond their patience with having a husband in the hobby.
Here’s to an even better 2016.
I am very thankful to all of the quartets who were able to perform on tonight’s show. I know that you will be in
for a great night of barbershop harmony.
From Director Eric G. Phillips:
Good evening and welcome to our 2015 Fall Show -- “Parade of Quartets.”
I live in Macungie, Pennsylvania with my wife, Nancy, and our 80-pound Golden Retriever, TJ. I work as a
security guard for Graham Security in Emmaus. My younger step-son and his wife are expecting our first
grandchild in January and in August 2016, and my older step-son announced that he is getting married. We are
very excited.
I have been in the barbershop society for over 30 years in several roles. In my 30 years of barbershop singing, I
have sung lead in too many quartets to mention. Also, I have sung lead in several barbershop choruses,
including Pottstown, Lansdale, Reading, and Pen-Argyl.
It has been a very exciting year directing the White Rose Chorus. They are full of enthusiasm and are always
anxious to learn and have fun. I consider it a privilege to direct them. We competed at the Division level for the
second time in many years and we won the Western Division Small Chorus Championship. We expect to go
back next year with a whole new outlook and come out with a better ranking. The White Rose Chorus is still in
the process of rejuvenation after nine years of sitting in the background. The White Rose Chorus is fortunate to
have a wonderful President, David Kelly, who has been instrumental in getting the chorus in the right direction
during the rejuvenation. Thank you, David for bringing me on board to direct this exciting chorus.
Also, I would like to thank Jeff Porter from Bryn Mawr chapter for his talents being an MC on this show. We
have been very honored by having several coaches during our quest for better singing this year. I want to thank
chorus coaches Brett Thomas, Neil Dingle, Stephanie Dingle, and Brian Schriner for all of their help this past
year. Also, I am looking forward to 2016.
I want to personally thank each and every one of you for attending tonight and hope you enjoy the show.
We would like to thank the Bon-Ton for their support through the Community Days
Fundraiser. They have been one of the largest sources of funds for our chapter since 2008. We
are again participating in the Community Days fundraiser for 2015. Coupon books are on sale
in the lobby for $5. The White Rose Chorus keeps 100% of the proceeds from the sale. The
coupon book entitles you to $10 off any purchase of $10 or more (some exclusions) plus many
discount coupons for special sale items only available during the four day event. Please
support the chapter by purchasing a coupon book in the lobby or purchase a coupon book
through our web site.
The 70th
Annual Parade of Quartets is a salute to the history of the Chapter.
Below is a scanned image of the actual show program from 1948.
Harry M. Steinhauser was the President of the Chapter at the inception of the chapter as
it chartered in 1946. He is listed as the Director of the Singing York Chorus. The plaque
below can be found in the stairwell at Memorial Hospital:
The 1948 Parade of Quartets featured two Mid-Atlantic District Quartet Champions;
Four Chords (1947) and the Potomac Clippers (1948). It also featured the 1946
International Quartet Champion Garden State Quartet.
The show also featured a young Carl Snyder who would go on to direct the York Chapter
for 38 years.

Quartets performing on tonight’s show include: First Capital Four: formed in late 2013 the First Capital Four has roughly 100 years of combined
barbershop experience. Roger Phillips joined the group in 2013 and the remaining members have been singing together since 2008.
Bruce Van Order (Tenor), Ed “Pappy” Simmons (Lead) and David Kelly (Bari), Roger Phillips (Bass)
Timeframe: This foursome from Reading specialize in Doo-Wop and Gospel and have been singing
together since 2001. Along the way, the quartet lost our original Lead to a new family and a new home. We also lost our original Tenor to God’s will. Re-organized in 2007, the current quartet consists of:
John Taylor (Tenor), Louie Albert (Lead), Arlan Davis (Bari), Harold Graeff (Bass).
Snakpak: Hailing from the Hanover area is a recently formed group of seasoned and somewhat new
barbershoppers. They are all members of the Standardbred Chorus in Hanover, PA.
Ralph McGregor (Tenor), Ed Maxwell (Lead), Wendell Hoover (Bari), Al Glenn (Bass)
Sound Generation: The Chesmont Jubilaires from Pottstown, PA have been glad to claim this quartet as their own. This quartet is composed of four guys who love to sing together to experience the joy of singing Barbershop style and hopefully of sharing that joy with others. They have over 75 years of combined barbershop experience. The tenor and bass are a grandson-grandfather duo. The lead and baritone represent the in-between generation thus lending a double meaning to the name “Sound Generation.”
Brett Thomas (Tenor), Tom Walker (Lead), Ken Weber Jr. (Bari), Paul Dimascio (Bass)
Gents Night Out: Carlo, Don, Barney and Al have been entertaining audiences very regularly since
2006. Always a crowd favorite, this quartet really knows how to put on a performance and have performed hundreds times all over the mid-state.
Carlo Masciulli (Tenor) , Don Myers (Lead), Barney Margolis (Bari), Al Ranieri (Bass). (filling in for Al Ranieri tonight is Joe O’Donnell)
Achording to Dad: (see write-up on following page)
ACHORDING TO DAD “Achording To Dad” is a barbershop quartet comprised of a father and his three sons from Watsontown, PA. Ken, Brian, Adam & Jeff Paulhamus have been singing together since 1998. They may look young (well…most of them),
but together they have logged an impressive 80 years in the Barbershop Harmony Society, and counting!
Ken (the Dad) sings lead and is the Administrative Pastor at Christ Wesleyan Church
in Milton. He is married to his wife Loretta (the Mom) and lives in Watsontown. He sang lead
with the acclaimed quartet, New Vintage for 16 years and has been singing with the West Branch Barbershop Chorus since 1987.
Brian sings tenor, is a graduate of Messiah
College, and is a Technical Support Consultant at CSIU in Montandon, PA. Brian is married to his wife, Trisha and they live in Lewisburg. He began
singing Barbershop with his dad in the West Branch Chorus at the age of seven in 1994.
Adam sings baritone, is a graduate of Lycoming College, and is working as an Elementary School Reading Teacher in the East Lycoming School District. He is married to his wife, Stephanie and lives in Watsontown. He began singing with the West Branch Chorus in 1998 at
the age of nine.
Jeff sings bass, is a graduate of Penn State University, and is working as a Project Engineer with Clark Technology Systems in Milton, PA. He is married to his wife, Jessica and they live in Watsontown. He began singing in the West Branch Chorus in 1998 at the age of eight.
The quartet placed in the top ten two years running in the Mid-Atlantic District competition.
They received international recognition when they had the privilege of singing the National Anthem at the US Championship game of the 2013 Little League World Series. “Achording To
Dad” has a lot of fun singing together with a unique humor that only a father and his three sons can share.
