So what is ATS?

ATSstandsforApplicantTrackingSystem,whichisasoftwareapplicationwidelyusedbymediumandlargeemployers,onlinejobsitesandrecruitingcompanies.Thereareover100versions,whichholdyourapplicationrecordsindefinitely.

Who needs it?

ATSsoftwaremakeshiringmanagers&recruiters’liveseasier.ApplicantTrackingSystemswereinitiallydesignedtosaverecruiterstimebyperformingtheinitialevaluationandbynarrowingdownthecandidatepooltothetopcandidates(e.g.top10),whoseresumestheSystemranksasthemostrelevanttotheroleonoffer.

Getit?It’scalled“costcutting”.YoucanofficiallyfreeyourselffromthenaivenotionthatHiringManagersreadandreviewallincomingapplications.Theyspend10secondsmaximumonyourresume.

How does it work?

ApplicantTrackingSystemscontaindifferentdatabasefieldsforinformationonaresume,suchasthecandidate’sname,contactdetails,workexperienceetc.

Ifaresumeisn’tformattedaccordingtotheATS,itwon’tpullthisinformationintotheproperfields.Someofitmightbemissedaltogether,resultinginthedroppingofaresumeintherankingofpotentialcandidates.

Inotherwords,ifyourdocumentsdon’tsuittheSystemyouwillnothavetheslightestchance–nomatterhowgoodyouare.Wewillhelpyoutooptimizeyourapplicationdocuments,soyoupasstheATSsystemsandgetjobinterviews.

Withanaverageofsixjobseekersforeveryjobopening,chancesareemployerswillbeabletofindsomeonewhofitstheirveryspecificbill.That’sfrustratingforthosewhomaynotfitthejobdescriptiontoa‘T’asitappearsonaposting,butwhoknowtheycouldsucceedatthejob.

Anotherfrustrationariseswhentherealitiesofthemarketplacehithomeandjobseekersareforcedtoapplyforjobstheycoulddowiththeireyesclosed.Thisisproblematicbecausesuspicionsthattheywillbeoutthedoorassoonasthemarketimprovesariseinemployers’minds.

Don’tgetmewrong,Iamnotsuggestingthatyoufloodyourpotentialemployerorrecruiterwithattachmentsuponfirstcontact,butyoucanhighlighttheavailabilityofthesedocumentsandhavethemreadyfordeploymentfromyourtoolkitwhenthetimeisright.

Makesuretoreadthejobadandtherequirements2or3timesandcreateaticklisttoensurethatyouhavewhatyouneedinyourtoolkit.
