THIS MONTH’S silver starThis month we would like to acknowledge our resident Beverly F.! Beverly was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 22, as an only child. As a teen she enjoyed reading, visiting girlfriends and dancing. In Beverly’s adult years she enjoyed reading, dancing, traveling and watching gospel tapes. She worked as a lab technician assistant at Spiegel and retired as a postal clerk at a post office after 19 years. Beverly says the proudest moment in her life was watching her daughters Marileen, Melinda and Marla graduate from college and seeing them walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.

FUN FACTS: I love bingo. I like to laugh. I like talking to people.

We all know the saying “April showers bring May flowers,” but a little rain won’t stop Prairie Green from indulging in spring activities. Join us in April for our Spring Garden Party on the patio hosted by our wonderful Ms. Kim from JenCare. During the garden party we will be using our green thumbs to plant flowers and liven up our patio furniture by giving it a customized paint job. April will be full of spring surprises so stay tuned for more.

• Unleash your inner artist with coloring pages or take up drawing or sketching.

• Organize something you’ve put off, such as that pile of papers, a drawer or shelf.

• Listen to your favorite music.

• If it’s possible, use your TV’s streaming service to catch up on some classic movies or one of those popular TV shows everyone’s talking about.

• Use your tablet or computer and research some topics you’ve always been interested in, learn some phrases in a foreign language, watch a YouTube tutorial or TED talk, or just laugh at some animal videos!

• Above all, maintain a positive attitude. You have likely coped with difficult situations before, and be reassured that you will cope with this current situation as well.

EVENT RECAP

last monthThere was definitely enough love going around Prairie Green as we celebrated during our “Sing Your Heart Out” Valentine’s Day Party. What better way to show love and unity than by coming together with good people, music and fun, Prairie Green residents gathered in our Multipurpose Room and were greeted by our wonderful karaoke host from JenCare who put on a great show and got the residents up on their feet and singing their hearts out. During the party the marvelous DJ Deb provided the tunes and the dance moves that eventually led to our dance-off and soul train line. Prairie Green would like to thank all those who helped spread the love during our Valentine’s Day Party.

Prairie Greens theme for February was “United Love.” Throughout the month we took time to educate our residents on the history and struggles that took place to form unity and also the importance of unity in our Community. We ended the month with our Black History program where our Prairie Green Choir came together and put on a performance to remember. They performed song selections like “Give Me That Old-Time Religion” and “Lift Every Voice.” We ended the night with an after-hour musical put on by students who attend the Musical Art Institute. They sang songs of unity and hope. The Institutes performance was truly touching and we would love to thank the students for showing Prairie Green how to lift our voice as one.

This months HEART Hero recognition goes to Prairie Green’s newest CNA, BRITTANY C.! Brittany has been a part of the Prairie Green health and wellness team for about a month and a half. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. When here she enjoys being able to put smiles on the residents’ faces. Brittany would like everyone to know that she is a nurse in the making, as she attends Governors State University. As for being this month’s HEART Hero, Brittany says she would describe herself as being patient, courteous and always helping/assisting residents when needed.

Fun Facts about Brittany: Her favorite color is blue, she likes to listen to music, and she loves dogs.
