Imagine No Malaria

is our Lenten emphasis to help eradicate malaria in sub-Saharan Africa. We are seeking to receive a total special offering of $10,000 during Lent to save the lives of 1,000 children. Funds will go toward purchasing treated mosquito nets, providing lifesaving medication, and training health care workers.

During Lent we are called to pray, sacrifice and give. This year we have the opportunity to save the lives of 1,000 children. You may make your check payable to First UMC and mark “Imagine No Malaria” on the memo today. An envelope has been placed in the bulletin for your convenience.

New Church Office Hours

Dear friends,

Greetings from your Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC). At our meeting this week, we endorsed a proposal to adjust our office hours. This was recommended to us as a way to better utilize our staff and volunteers while having the office available to members and other visitors at convenient times. I am confident our new hours will accomplish both.

Beginning Tuesday, April 7, 2015, the church office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and will continue the Friday schedule of 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Like last year we may adjust the Friday hours over the summer.

Native American Ministries Sunday,

April 19

A special offering will be received April 19 for Native American Ministries Sunday. This is one of six special Sunday offer-ings of the United Methodist Church. Food Bag Ministry

We will be distributing food to those in need on Tuesday, April 14, from 2-3 p.m. in the annex. You can help by picking up a bag and filling it or by donating money. Please write “Food Bags” on your check, and the money will be used to purchase food. Thank you for helping those less fortunate.

Stephen Ministry

FUMC’s Stephen Ministry is part of an interdenomi-national program of trained church members who offer their time to those who are going through difficulty. Care receivers benefit from a confidential, weekly visit with their Stephen Minister, who is matched by the same gender. Access to this care is provided via pew cards in the sanctuary or on the information table in the fellowship hall, by speaking to one of our pas-tors, or by calling the Referrals Coordinator (Velda Williford at 443-3005) for more information.

FUMC Preschool & Kindergarten Registration

FUMC preschool and kindergarten is currently accepting registration for the 2015-16 school year for: Mother's Morning Out for babies (aged 2 months-1 year), Mother's Morning Out for toddlers/preschoolers (aged 1-4 years), preschool for 2- and 3-year-olds, pre-kindergarten for 4-year-olds, and a state-certified, half-day kinder-garten.

New families registering before June 1 will receive a discount on their registration fee. Additionally, current families will receive a discount for every new family referred.

National Day of Prayer May 7, 2015

There will be three events in obser-vance of the National Day of Prayer. The first is Wednesday, May 6, from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Hundreds of volunteers will read the entire Bible in eight different locations around the city of Rocky Mount. Members from FUMC will read from 2-6 p.m. at the City Lake on that day. Volunteer readers will need to bring their Bibles and will be given specific assignments.

The second event will be at City Hall, May 7, from 12 noon-12:45 p.m. A local band will play, the National Anthem will be sung, and guest speak-ers will lift up our city and nation in prayer. The third event will be at The Dunn Center at Wesleyan College May 7 at 7 p.m.

Everyone is invited to all three events. If you are interested in reading, please sign up in the church lobby.

Beehives for Conetoe

Are you looking for a family ministry project? Would you be interested in helping a local area on-going educational and youth program? We have an oppor-tunity to support Reverend Richard Joyner's Family Life Center in Conetoe,

NC. As part of their garden project, they maintain colonies of bees for pollination purposes, plus sell honey for financial support. The Center is in need of beehives to replace those destroyed by bears last fall. You can buy a beehive kit for $110.00 or a unit of bees for the same price. A church picnic is planned for Saturday, May 16, at Sunset Park. Participating families or individuals will be able to assemble their kits as one of the activities. Berry Hines, the beekeeper, will be there to assist in the building process plus educate us on beekeeping. Order forms will be available in the church lobby and welcome center. Please submit the order form and a check, made payable to FUMC (memo: Conetoe Beehives), no later than April 20. Be sure to indicate whether you are purchasing a beehive kit or a unit of bees. That way we can order all the units at one time and coordinate shipping. If anyone would just like to buy a beehive kit as a donation, we can certainly find some-one willing to assemble it. As an added bonus, each kit or bee unit donor will receive a quart of honey at the end of the season. This is a great opportunity to support a worthwhile ministry and learn about beekeeping.
