My grace is sufficient for
you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9
We were very fortunate to find help through a school readiness
class in the Thrive program. Through the kind, warm and
loving ways of the program our daughter was able to learn how
to be more focused in the classroom and concentrate
on her schoolwork.
At some point, students’ may hit a roadblock of some sort –
it might be academic, social, or spiritual.
We want to be there to help.
“I started attending NCA when I was in
kindergarten. In 2nd grade, I was
diagnosed with dyslexia and started
coming to the tutoring program for help
to learn how to work around my learning
difficulty. Dyslexia, for me, is that I get
letters confused and when I am reading
my mind would skip or change words.
Tutoring has helped through school.
Fall of my 5th grade year, I was really not
feeling myself. I had headaches all the
time. When I was at school it seemed
that I was always in the nurse’s office.
The doctors tried to figure out what was
wrong with me. Finally, the 4th doctor
sent me Children’s Hospital ER for a CT
scan. I had a brain tumor!
Two days later I was sent into a 5 hour
surgery to remove the tumor. The
surgery was a success. The tumor was
benign and no part of it was left behind!
I felt so blessed when Mrs. Leach, my
principal, Mrs. Watson, my 5th grade
teacher, and Mrs. Jacobsen, the school
nurse came to see ME! They brought me
a “prayer quilt” and cards that the whole
school had made for me to show their
support and love.
Once I returned to school, I was behind
in my studies by about two months.
Because of the loving support of
Northshore teachers, administration and
special services, I was able to catch up
and finish 5th grade on time with my
friends!!!!
I am so thankful for Northshore Christian
Academy. —Anna
Our students, your children… Don’t fit into a one-size-fits-all box. In order for
them to THRIVE it is vital to know them as individuals and understand how to
reach each of them in their strengths and weaknesses. We offer them:
“When I first came to Northshore,
I began to fall back in my classes
because my teachers couldn't read
my handwriting. Northshore set up
meetings for me once a week with a
tutor so could learn how to have
handwriting that teachers could
read. The tools I gained in tutoring
helped to make me more successful
in my classes.
Then, when I was in 7th grade my
family was hit with something
completely unexpected. My dad left
my mom…my brother, my sister and
me. In addition to him leaving us—he
left a huge financial burden for my
mother. As the oldest son, I felt I
needed to care for my family...but
didn’t know how I could. My teachers
helped to ensure that I was doing
okay not only in school, but also
staying strong in my faith. Mr. Berge,
school counselor, helped by giving
me someone to talk to. Having
someone who would listen to me
and the struggles that I was facing
made a huge difference. The help
that NCA gave my family is invaluable
and has continued to be a blessing
for my family to this day.
Because of the concerned care that I
received from Northshore I can
already see that it has changed my
life. For my brother, sister, and me
to be able to remain at NCA and in
the care of this loving environment
was, and still is, life-changing.”
