Tobacco Free Cass County Successes Implemented a media campaign to inform residents of Cass County about secondhand smoke issues in the workplace. Created a youth tobacco prevention group designed to educate youth about the dangers of secondhand smoke and tobacco industry marketing manipulation. Worked with city officials to pass the first ordinance in Nebraska requiring all tobacco products be placed behind the counter or in locked cabinets. This prevents youth access to tobacco products. Sponsored Smoke Free Dining Days to encourage restaurants to go smoke- free on a voluntary basis. Worked with local law enforcement to conduct compliance checks of tobacco retailers to enforce laws that keep tobacco out of the hands of youth. YOU Can Make a Difference Please join us! Mission

The mission of Tobacco Free Cass County is to inform the public about the death and disease caused by tobacco and secondhand smoke and to serve as a resource for stronger standards that protect children from tobacco addiction as well as all of Cass County from breathing toxic tobacco smoke.

Goals

1. Prevent kids from ever starting to use tobacco.

2. Eliminate secondhand smoke in workplaces (including restaurants and bars) daycares and public buildings.

3. Advocate for tougher standards regarding tobacco issues.

4. Establish Cass County as a leader in the tobacco prevention and control movement.

5. Available as a knowledge base in the county for tobacco education, cessation and prevention.
