All Christians should
always remember to walk
in the presence of the
Lord. This exercise would
guard all those who do it
faithfully from every sin;
moreover, it would make
them holy. (Rosmini)

Today is Peace Sunday
Pope Francis asks us to think about 'a culture of care as a path to peace' 'to strive daily, in practical ways, to form a community composed of brothers and sisters who accept and care for one another.' Pax Christi suggests we say the prayer of Pope Francis The peace Jesus gives us is a peace for today and for the future. May the Lord give us his peace, Full of hope That makes us fruitful, That makes us communicative with others, That creates community And that always looks to the definitive peace of Paradise. Amen.

Statement on the Treaty on the
Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
On Friday 22 January 2021 the
Treaty on the Prohibition of
Nuclear Weapons comes into
force. This is an historic milestone
on the path to nuclear
disarmament and an opportunity to
refocus on genuine peacebuilding
rooted in dialogue, justice, respect
for human dignity, and care for our
planet.
We can mitigate the effects
of climate change stop the
destruction of habitats and reverse
the decline of species worldwide. The
way we treat the earth today is
already affecting the poorest and
most vulnerable in the world and, in
time, will affect us all. I urgently
appeal, then, for a new dialogue
about how we are shaping the future
of our planet. We need a
conversation which includes
everyone, since the environmental
challenge we are undergoing, and its
human roots, concern and affect us
all.

The development of a
vaccine against COVID-19
presents an important
breakthrough in protecting others
as well as oneself from the virus; a
virus which has not only caused a
global pandemic and led to a huge
loss of life but has also placed a
great burden on healthcare
workers and systems. At present
the debate concerns the use of
the vaccines developed by Pfizer
& BioNTech, Moderna, and
AstraZeneca. Some have
questioned the use of the Astra
Zeneca vaccine since it has been
developed from cell-lines
originating from the cells of an
aborted foetus in
1983.The Congregation for the
Doctrine of the Faith and
the Pontifical Academy of
Life have expressed the view that
one may in good conscience and
for a grave reason receive a
vaccine sourced in this way,
provided that there is a sufficient
moral distance between the
present administration of the
vaccine and the original
wrongful action.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2021 has been prepared by the Monastic Community of Grandchamp in Switzerland. The theme that was chosen, “Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit”, is based on John 15:1-17 and expresses Grandchamp Community’s vocation to prayer, reconciliation and unity in the Church and the human family.

Racial Justice Sunday 2021
This year’s Racial Justice Sunday, 31 January, is more important than ever. The effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, the killing of George Floyd, and the powerful message on
fraternity and equality by Pope Francis in Fratelli Tutti speak of the
need to actively oppose racism and pursue racial justice with renewed
vigour.
