WEST LIBERTY TO HOST 2015 NCAA DII SUPER
REGION ONE WRESTLING TOURNAMENTThe NCAA has selected West Liberty University
as the host site for the 2015 NCAA Division II Super
Region One Wrestling Championships.
The 2015 regional will be held Feb. 27-28 at the
ASRC on the West Liberty University campus. The
top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to
the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championships,
scheduled for March 13-14 at Chaifetz Arena in St.
Louis, Mo.
"We are excited and honored to be selected to
host the NCAA Division II Wrestling Regionals in
February 2015 here in the ASRC," West Liberty
athletic director Jim Watson said.
"We look forward to conducting another first-
class event, as we have done with the NCAA Division
II Men's Basketball Regionals, the NCAA Div. II Golf
Super Regionals, the 2002 NCAA Division II Wrestling
Regional and the 2003 NCAA Division II National
Wrestling Championships."
The announcement came as part of the NCAA's
massive rollout of 523 sites as hosts for 82 of its 89
championships for the 2014-15 year through
2017-18. It was the largest collection of host site
announcements in NCAA history.
The sites were selected by the respective sport
committees, made up of coaches and administrators
from NCAA member schools and conferences, and
ultimately approved by the appropriate divisional
championships cabinets or committees.
"We really want to thank everyone who put in a
bid," said Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president
o f c h a m p i o n s h i p s a n d a l l i a n c e s . " T h e
competitiveness of the bids made it extremely di"cult
for the sport committees to select sites as there just
weren't spots for all of the great bids we received.
Ultimately the sites that were selected will provide our
student-athletes, coaches and fans the best
experience possible."
The
Super Region One
Tournament is
scheduled for
Feb. 27 & 28, 2015
in the ASRC.

Words from
Coach Davis
The 2014-2015
season is almost
upon us! With
eight starters and
some key back-ups
returning, and a nice recruiting
class, we are excited for the
upcoming season. Along with
our regular coaching sta# of
myself, Branden Hinkle, Roger
Seeber, and Brian Edison, we
have former Hilltopper Brian
Leggett on board this year.
Our schedule includes some
of our traditional events, such
as the Ohio Northern Invitational
and the Midwest Classic, along
with some new tournaments like
the Brockport Invitational. For
dual meets there has been a
slight change, as we have been
forced to drop a few non-
regional opponents, and replace
them with regional foes. This
will hopefully prove beneficial in
our postseason for regionalseeding.
There are some events I'd
like to draw your attention to.
They are listed at the end of this
newsletter and include the
induction of WL Wrestling family
member Bryan Bunch ('87) into
the Hilltoppper Athletic Hall of
Fame on 9/20, Homecoming on
the Hilltop on 10/11, and
Wrestle-o#s followed by a fun
Night at the Races/Spaghetti
Dinner fundraiser on 10/25.
We hope to see you at these
events as well as some matches
this year. GO TOPPERS!
Preseason Workouts Underway
The team started their 'Fall
Strength Training & Conditioning'
program on September 2nd. Pre-
season workouts will run through
October 3rd and are Monday through
Thursday, 3:30-5:30 PM each week.Under the direction of Assistant
Coach Branden Hinkle, the athletes
start each workout with an intense
warm up before hitting the weight
room. Team lifts are followed up
with various cardio workouts such
as sprints, hill runs, and some
traditional distance runs such as
'Jingle Bells' and 'The Tower Run'

LEGGETT JOINS MAT STAFF
Former West Liberty University wrestling
standout Brian Leggett is coming back to the
hilltop as part of Coach Brian Davis' mat sta#.
A 2012 West Liberty graduate with a degree
in Social Studies Education, Leggett returns to
his alma mater after spending the past two
years as a Graduate Assistant at NCAA Division
III Waynesburg (Pa.) University. Leggett earned
a Masters Degree in Educational Technology
while at Waynesburg.
Leggett was a fixture in West Liberty's line-up
from 2007-11, serving as a team captain each
of his last two seasons, and as a student
assistant for Coach Davis during the 2011-2012
season.
He had a career-high 22 wins as a redshirt
freshman and went on to a solid career that saw
him etch his name in the Hilltopper record book.
By the time Leggett hung up his singlet for
good, he ranked No. 1 all-time at West Liberty in
career reversals (87) and escapes (173).
Leggett wrestled for three years at
Waynesburg (Pa.) Central High School before
transferring to Parkersburg, W.Va. for his senior
season. He went 25-9 with the Big Reds and
was the runner-up at 130 pounds in the West
Virginia Class AAA state tournament.
