Hi Guys, It’s June already!!! Where has the year gone, it’ll soon be time for Santa to call by again. Our motorkhana on the 1st of June was postponed due to the weather gods deciding to rain the night be-fore, which made Werribee a bit too boggy for the event. VP Ron thinks he’s jinxed, our last khana at Werribee was cancelled due to rain and he was there too. Those who came along went back to town for a coffee and tell tall stories. June means we have our first sprint for the year at Winton on the 29th. It clashes with a sprint at the is-land which I’m sure will affect entries, but we hope that a few will make the trek up to Winton, I’m sure those who do will get plenty of track time. We still need a few more helpers, please call me if you can help. Our last meeting was held at Shannon’s show room in Moorabbin. There was a good attendance from the members. Shannon’s put on pizza’s and drinks before the meeting which was a pleasant surprise. The meeting was short, the guys from Shannon’s gave a talk on the services Shannon’s offer. We also had a visit from the Porsche club telling us about their six hour event at Sandown, which has now changed to a one day four hour event due to low entry numbers. After, we showed the Rev Heds episodes from the 40th at Sandown which featured an interview with Harry Firth. Our next meeting will be back at the Golden Gate Hotel in July, for the September meeting we will be visiting another car collection from one of our members Troy Fitzpatrick. Troy has a factory in Mordialloc. The last time I visited, had floor to ceiling Holden’s. More details to come in later mags. HSCCV has a team running in the Porsche club four hour relay at Sandown on 6th July, come down and support the guys. If you would like to help during the day, team manager Kris would appreciate some help with timing and lap boards. Also, we have a team running at the Phillip Island six hour 2nd & 3rd of August, it would be great to see some members come down and support the team. I am having a run and looking forward to it. Recently Ron and I met with HSVOC to discuss some ideas about next year in regards to helping each other with sprints, sharing costs and officials, social events, trying some new ideas. The meeting was very productive and Ron and I are looking forward to next year. The committee is always looking for ideas for meetings, social events or guest speakers, if you have any ideas or contacts for guest speakers, contact any of the committee , we will be very happy to hear from you. Just a reminder, we need helpers for Winton, it is an opportunity for those of you on club plates to get another event signed off. Let me know if you can come and help. Cheers Bruce

Fellow members, last months report was so succinct and well received, its almost the same this month! Short sharp, and sweet - - WINTON!!!!! Invites are going out to other car clubs and we should have some very interesting cars turn up. Its OUR Club Event, so come and have a run, or come and help on the day (CH plate holders - its another opportunity to maintain your club permit, and even give the car a run!). Also coming up is the Sandown 6-Hour regularity on June 5 & 6. We have a team entered—myself, Ian Smith, Geoff Fitzy, Vlad and Phil, and our esteemed team manager is Kris. If you want to compete its well and truly still open and has been reduced to a 4 hour event. Always worth a run!

The club meeting in May was held at Shannons. 20 members were in attendance. 2 guest speakers from the Porsche Car Club were there to fill us in on the 6 Hour Event to be held at Sandown on the 5th & 6th of July. We were welcomed by Chris from Shannons who took us for a walk around the show room that was full of classic cars. This was followed up with pizzas and drinks. Chris discussed a whole range of Shannons Insurance Policies. After the meeting we watched Harry Firth’s interview on the “40th Anniversary at Sandown” DVD.

The next event will be in September at Harrops Engineering at Preston.

More details later….

Also, put the 19th October in your diary – We’ll be doing a Car Rally to Flynns Wines

at Heathcote.

Never stop improving, Geoff 0419513195

Hey everyone We've hit the middle of the year and its been a good month. If you weren't at the May meeting at Shan-non's you missed a good thing, There were many great cars and the guys from Shannon's put on a great effort providing dinner and a presentation on their products. It was also good to see some representation form the Porsche club promoting the 6 hour event coming up in July which the mighty HSSCV team will be up the top no doubt.... watch this space. The Motorkhana on the 1st of June was a washout, so no money made or lost on the event as the permit had not been paid yet the cheque was voided Winton's deposit of $7400 has been paid for, but with our event clashing with some other's we are hoping to cut even or more than likely run at a loss. Full report to follow next month. I have reintroduced a petty cash box for small transactions where cash is more appropriate as opposed to paying everything with cheque. It will be stocked up as soon as I can withdraw more cash from the bank. I also managed to get to Garry Rogers Motorsports open day which was held on the 31st of May which I'll have a full report and pictures further on in the magazine. Secretary's Report Secretary's Report Secretary's Report Secretary's Report ————Phil Slater Phil Slater Phil Slater Phil Slater

Hello and welcome to June where we wish happy birthday to all the crazy Geminis (there seem to be a lot

of us in motorsport). If you haven’t already entered the Winton sprint then hurry up and do so. There

aren’t a lot of entries and you should get plenty of runs on a fun and challenging track. In the past the

Winton sprint was a big deal and was the one event of the year when every club member would try to get

their car out on the track. In those days it was called the Bob Croll Memorial Sprint after a member who

was killed in a traffic accident on the way to the track. Bob’s mum would come to the meeting and pre-

sent the trophy but she has long since passed away. There is no one left in the club who remembers Bob

anymore but let’s hope that the Winton Sprint stays a part of the club’s tradition.

I’ve just come back from a trip to Bali and beyond all the fun and partying I couldn’t help but notice the

poverty of the locals. Gee we’ve got it good here!

Phil Slater

Here’s a typical example of family transport Bali style.

And in case you think a holiday in Bali

consists only of beaches, drinks, and

nightclubs, here’s our esteemed Secretary

demonstrating his quad bike skills while

also ensuring he finishes with a fine

coating of mud over all extremities, and

quite a few other bits.

Yep, you’re correct—the magazines a bit late this month! I blame my projects….. While the Dirty Dato sits and waits for attention (i.e.. Time and Money), I scratched an itch that had been bugging me for around 40 years, and bought an Alfa Romeo. (Say it sexily, like the ad –I bought an Alfaaa Romeooooo…..nope, didn’t quite work for me, either). Not a new one, of course. Or even a slightly used one. Nope, the new addition is a 1972 GT 1600 Junior, and of course being an old Alfa I can expect temperamental behaviour, an electrical fiasco, broken fit-tings, and the dreaded tin worm, with rust rusting out the rust even where the rust has already rusted... Except so far, its been well behaved, and even passed scrutiny from my happy panel beater who on hear-ing what I had acquired, gave me the long silence followed by the sucking of air through the teeth and shaking of head (and the kaching!!! of a cash register). At worst he could find the start of a rust bubble or two in the sills, which was expected, and….nothing else. No previous accident repairs obvious, all its own metal, paint is a 20 y.o. respray and will need another one eventually, and so far starts, runs, drives and stops as required. All good, but now there's a problem — the number of cars exceeds the space free in the garage. So the last week has been a mighty effort of putting in shelving, erecting racking, sorting the wanted from the unwanted, and taking trailer loads to the tip. And it still doesn’t fit. Probably because, as another opportunity purchase, I picked up a very nice 308, correct date coding for rebuilding Chantelles just rebuilt XU1 to its 1973 HDT V8 configuration...so now I have to fit 5 stacks of tyres, 4 engines on stands AND a car in a space that usually would take just one car. And on the side, make room for another car project. And that, girls and boys, is why this magazine is a bit late, because all my free time has been spent stand-ing in the shambles that is the garage, scratching my head and trying to fit the impossible into the inade-quate. Obviously, I need a bigger shed—but that’s another project! See you all at Winton, I trust, Cheers Kim

Not a Torana, not even a Holden………

Still its bound to keep me occupied

Ask Alex : are we there yet ?

Hi all, thought I’d give you an update on the HZ Sandman (copy) project.

Well it’s been a long time coming but I finally finished the rust repairs and have a solid body shell to work

with. Not the best panel beater but got it close.

With some filler, hi build primer and a lot of blocking back, I managed to get some reasonable body lines.

Finally ready for some paint. While it’s stripped, replace bushes, ball joints etc and give the chassis and

underneath a coat of black (after a lot of up side down cleaning, yuk).

and finally some top coats of Panama Green with the blackouts.

Now the fun part begins, putting it back together (I love those alloy GTS wheels).

I was hoping to make it to Winton, but as I was replacing the drive train oils I noticed the old gearbox oil

was metallic, so I’ve decided to strip the gearbox to check it. Hopefully it’s just a bearing. If I don’t make

it to Winton, we should see you at Sandown in August.

Alex
