It’s officially Spring! Time to Get Around 2 plan your summer activities! Celebrate May Day, May 1st, with the Manhattan Convention & Visitors Bureau, as we host the 6th Annual Get Around 2 It! From 5-8 p.m. at the Blue Earth Plaza. This free event showcases Manhattan’s attractions and upcoming events with vendors, prizes and fun activities. The Flint Hills Discovery Center celebrates the first weekend in May with their inaugural Flint Hills Day on Saturday, May 3rd. Bring the whole family to enjoy a full day of activities. Lace up your running shoes and join the fun with the “Run for the Hills 5K”. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the race begin- ning at 7:30. Are you a geocacher? Join in the fun with geocaching enthusiasts at 10 a.m. Did you know that Manhattan has over 200 caches and nearly 2000 caches are in the region? From noon to 5 p.m. join in on the fun inside the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Flint Hills Day showcases live raptor demon- strations by the Milford Nature Center, entertainment from “The Skirts”, pre- sentations, display and fun interactive children activities by the Kaw Indian Nation all afternoon. The KSU Meat Science Association will grill Buffalo burgers from 4-7 p.m just outside the Flint Hills Discovery Center doors. To bring a great day to a close, join us at 6 p.m., in the Blue Earth Plaza to see the Kaw Indian Nation perform traditional Kaw Dances. The beauty and pageantry of this dance is a must see! Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, Wamego will be hosting the 25th Annual Kansas Sampler Festival. The Kansas Sampler celebrates all things Kansas. Performances in The Little Apple®

McCain Auditorium is about to wrap up their performance series forthe season. Catch a show before they go!

• The Casmore Marionettes entertain audiences all day long on April 13th in Forum Hall in the K-State Student Union. These Marionette puppets are incredible entertainment for the whole family. Celebrate the richness of everyday life with this group. Recommended for ages 8 and above.

• Cameron Carpenter is the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy Award for a solo album. He will wow audiences on April 19th at 7:30 on the McCain stage. Hear beautiful classical pieces integrated with jazz and pop artist collaborations in an incredibly diverse show.

• Moscow Festival Ballet; Romeo and Juliet on April 27th at 4 p.m. brings the grace and beauty of Shakespeare’s timeless tale right to Manhattan’s stage. Don’t miss this classic tale of star-crossed lovers.

More shows await at the Manhattan Arts Center, including the Matt Flinner Trioon April 11th. The trio performs as a part of the BirdHouse Fine Acoustic MusicSeries. Worried about the kiddos? There is an art class & movie night availableon-site for children ages 5-11 (reservations required). $15 for first child, $8 foradditional children in the same family.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the story of Joseph fromthe Bible’s book of Genesis. See it live at the Manhattan Arts Center April 25-27th Tickets available through the www.manhattanarts.org, or by calling 785-537-4420.

It’s a plane…it’s superman…it’s a Prairie Chicken?Prairie Chickens are a beautiful partof prairie life, and one of theirmost unique characteristics canbe seen on the Konza PrairieApril 17th through April 20th.The courtship behavior of GreaterPrairie Chickens can be observedin groups of 6-8 along with a guide.Reservations are required at $25 per person, and viewingtimes are before dawn.

Interested persons should bring binoculars or spottingscopes, and be prepared to be in the blind an hour beforesunrise. It might be early- but this is a rare opportunity youdon’t want to miss! Call 785-587-0381 or [email protected] for more information.

Swing Batter BatterWatch those K-State Wildcats take on any number ofopponents in Tointon Family Stadium this April! They’llcome from California, and Oklahoma and Texas, but you canbet on one thing being consistent; beautiful spring days, hotdogs, and some great K-State baseball being played.

Thanks March Madness! Manhattan has hosted the 2A high school state basketball tournament in Bramlage Coliseumfor 25 years. This tournament brings a fabulous group of high school kids from around thestate to The Little Apple®, as well as fans and parents. Thousands of fans travel with theirteams to duke it out for the championship title. In turn, we utilize hundreds of volunteerhours to keep things running smoothly. This tournament couldn’t take place without cooper-ation and assistance from the following hard working people and businesses.
