A. Main Equipment

1 Central Control Operating Unit

The entire operation control of the mobile cable test van is performed via a central operating unit and controls for the individual high voltage operating modes. The unit and its controls are laid out centrally in the operator’s field of vision. All operation modes, techniques and safety control are fully integrated in the system.

2 CDS-6000

Fully automatic 12 kV insulation power factor / dissipation factor (tan ∂) test set designed for condition assessment of electrical insulation in high voltage apparatus such as transformers, bushings, circuit breakers, cables, lightning arresters and rotating machinery.

3 FRAX-150 Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer

Power transformers are some of the most vital components in today’s transmission and distribution infrastructure. Transformer failures cost enormous amounts of money in unexpected outages and unscheduled maintenance. It is important to avoid these failures and make testing and diagnostics reliable and efficient.

The FRAX 150 Sweep Frequency Response Analyser (SFRA) detects potential mechanical and electrical problems that other methods are unable to detect. Major utilities and service companies have used the FRA method for more than a decade. The measurement is easy to perform and will capture a unique “fingerprint” of the transformer. The measurement is compared to a reference “fingerprint” and gives a direct answer if the mechanical parts of the transformer are unchanged or not. Deviations indicate geometrical and/or electrical changes within the transformer.

4 MTO-330 Transformer Ohmmeter Test Set

The MTO series delivers full eight-terminal/six-winding resistance measurement capability. It is designed to save time by testing all six windings without having to disconnect and reconnect leads. Also, the simultaneous winding magnetization (SWM) method gives fast and reliable measurements even on large transformers with delta configuration on the low voltage side.

Additionally, the MTO series leads are interchangeable with the Megger TTR series of three-phase turns ratio instruments which eliminates additional connecting time for turns ratio measurements. The MTO330 offers the same functionality as the MTO300. However, it is equipped with an onboard computer featuring full QWERTY keyboard and navigational pushbuttons as displayed on an 8.4 inch full-color VGA transflective screen viewable in bright sunlight.

5 TTR-330

The TTR300 Series of three-phase transformer turns ratio test sets are designed to measure the turns ratio of power, instrument, and distribution transformers in a substation or manufacturing environment. A rugged and robust design makes these instruments well suited for use in a variety of harsh environments. Our leads are specially designed to provide the necessary flexibility needed in cold weather.

The TTR300 Series are ideal for use by power transformer manufacturers. Their unique testing procedures and storage capability allows an operator to set up and test difficult three-phase transformers (with multiple tap changers and bushing CTs) in a fraction of the time than it used to take with other TTRs. This test also includes a pass/fail limit of individual ratios. The TTR300 Series also measure the phase deviation of the transformer primary versus secondary. This quickly indicates problems in the transformer such as partial shorted turns and core faults. This measurement is also useful in verifying phase errors in all types of PTs and CTs.

6 Insulation Resistance Tester – MIT-1025

The new insulation resistance tester MIT1025 is available up 20 TΩ for the 10 kV model. The new instrument is smaller and lighter than previous models yet offer advanced features and rapid charge capability. A key productivity feature is the ability to take measurements when connected to line power/mains with a dead battery. Intelligent battery charging ensures the optimum charge rate as a function of battery level, resulting in minimum charge times. The rugged, unique dual case design provides the ultimate protection for a portable instrument and a clip-on lead pouch ensures that leads remain with the instrument at all times. The case lid is removable for improved terminal access. IP rating is IP65 with the case closed preventing water/dust ingress. High reliability and safety are built in; all models are safety rated to CATIV 600 V and are double insulated.

Five preset voltage ranges are provided in insulation test mode, plus a user settable lock voltage range. Any selectable test voltage may be locked and restored via the selector switch, thereby increasing efficiency of commissioning and repetitive tests. Preconfigured diagnostic tests include Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), dielectric discharge (DD), Step Voltage (SV) and ramp test.

Transformer Resistance Tester ‘TRT-27-20’ has already been in use in the field of the electric power system .To enhance the instrument’s performance and make the test check quickly, the ‘TRT-27-20’ is a high precision, new generation, light weight, large output test current and micro-processor controlled tester. ‘TRT-27-20’ adopts advanced switch power technology. It can output various test currents with a wide test range. The instrument is controlled by a high-speed micro-processor. It has a built-in printer to save results.

8 OTSA-100

Insulating oil being an efficient cooling medium with high dielectric strength has been a recognized insulating medium in electrical equipment. Degradation of oil takes place due to acids, oxidation, sludge, gas and water absorption. A dielectric strength test shows the changes caused in oil due to these processes. OTSA-100 insulating oil testers are fully automatic microcontroller based testers completely self-contained with built-in printer.

9 High voltage testing block HV-100M

HV functions: • High voltage DC test up to 80 kV of gap,

External connections for the L.V. cable test van are provided with a power feeding cable drum, a grounding cable drum and an output voltage cable drum.

12 Electrical Safety Check System

The electrical safety system provides protection to the operating personnel as follows:

• monitoring the potential on the car (switching off if the potential is higher than 24V)

• monitoring the earth resistance (switching off if the resistance is higher than 25 Ohm)

• monitoring the door of the high voltage compartment (switching off the equipment if doors are opened)

• Emergency Switch to shut down the equipment in case of hazard

E. PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

13 Voltage Detector -

Voltage Detectors are used to verify live or de-energized conductors. These testers may be used with rubber insulating gloves or hot sticks using the splined universal end fitting. Testers indicate the presence of voltage with an extra bright LED light and a distinctive audible signal. It is recommended that the tester be moved closer to conductor until warning is indicated, or it touches conductor, apparatus, or test point. Test the unit on a nearby energized conductor.

The transformer test van is designed to be easy to operate and service. It is equipped with high quality insulated wall panelling and air conditioning. The body is divided into technical and operator compartments separated by a partition wall. The technical compartment includes all the necessary tools and equipment for carrying out testing and inspections. Safety is an important feature of the laboratories and hence all equipment is properly mounted and secured for transit. The operator compartment provides a pleasant environment to work in with more room and plenty of storage. It is equipped with cabinetry and workbenches that increase the operators’ efficiency and productivity. Features
