Fun FACT

Columbus day

Columbus day is a national holiday celebrated on the second Monday of October in the USA, to remember Columbus coming to America on October 12 1492 (Monday). Church services, parades and other large events take place to celebrate the finding of the country.

Columbus Day first became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906, and became a national

holiday in the United States in 1937. This day is known by many names, such as Discovery Day in the Bahamas, as Fiesta Nacional (National Festival) in Spain, as Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural (Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity) in Argentina, as Día de las Américas (Day of the Americas) in Belize and Uruguay. Dancing girlA bronze statue of a young girl, with her hand on her hip and legs, put a bit forward as if she is moving with the beats of music. This statue leads to two important findings about the people who knew different ways of working with metal and minerals. Entertainment, like dance, was part of their culture.

Priest-King A statue of a bearded man with a band in his arm and a red coloured cloth. The hair is carefully combed towards the back of the head with

no bun. The left shoulder is covered by a decorated cloth. The upper lip is shaved, and has a short beard.

Pashupati sealA seal with a picture of a seated, cross-legged figure is thought to be a figure of a yogi.

Seven stranded Mohenjo-Daro necklaceThis necklace is about 4,500 years old. The necklace has seven very long layers of bronze-metal beads. Each bead is less than the size of a pepper-seed.

mohEnJo-daroMohenjo-daro, which means “Mound of the dead,” is an old city in Sindh, Pakistan; built in around 2,600bC. it was completely unknown until 1922, and was founded by Rakhaldas bandyopadhyay, an officer of the archaeological Survey of india. it is known to be one of the largest places of the indus Valley Civilization and was called a uNESCO World heritage site. Nadia abdullah

The place shows planned buildings built in straight rows. It shows that people knew very well how to plan the city. The city is known to have had public bath houses, two large halls and a large granary (a place where grains are stored). Almost every house had its own bathing area and inner yards. Some buildings even had two storeys! There is no proof that the city had walls around it for protection but had two guard towers to watch over its people.

Many objects had seated and standing figures, copper and stone tools, balance-scales and weights, gold and jewellery, and children’s toys. It shows how the people were very good at using metal to make statues and other jewelleries.

i am adnan’s bodyhello everyone! My name is adnan, and i have a big problem! My body parts have been separated by an evil witch, Rafata! My body parts really need to talk to each other and come together to break her evil spell. Only YOu can help me put myself together again. This is what you need to do.

One body part of mine will be here every week. You have to cut it out, collect them every week until they all come together. i’m sure you can do it and save me from Rafata!

1. TorsoHey guys! I’m Adnan’s Torso. Many of the important organs live inside me – the lungs help me breathe, the stomach helps me take in food and make it into energy. I’m very happy now. Adnan exercises a lot, plays everyday and eats good food, which keeps me healthy and strong! But I wasn’t this happy before. All he used to eat was junk food which made my stomach puffy and weak. My lungs were sick and tired because they had cold AC air all day. But now, Adnan has made everything better! I wish I could talk to head, and tell him to

keep making Adnan exercise!

2. Right ArmHello! I am Adnan’s right arm, and I don’t feel very well. My muscles are soggy because he doesn’t use me. He keeps on playing football! But I need exercise too! If that’s not enough, Adnan is very dirty. My fingers are full of germs and bacteria. My skin is becoming infected! He should wash his hands with soap. I don’t know what to do. He is going to become sick if he keeps eating with dirty hands! Torso is going to be very angry if I don’t tell him.

wEEk 1 Body parts:

Nutrients are the things in food that your body needs to help you to stay healthy and happy. Eating healthy and not eating too much food can help you to stay fit and to keep up with your friends in school. Some nutrients are vitamins, minerals, proteins and fiber.

Fruits vs PizzaFruits contain vitamins and minerals which are needed for you to stay healthy and fit. We need vitamins and minerals to help us grow, to see, to make bones, muscles, skin and organs, as well as to help us fight infections. Not eating foods with enough vitamins and minerals can make you very sick. For example, you will have a bad eyesight if you do not eat food with enough vitamin A; I am sure you

like to see clearly without wearing glasses!Pizzas and all the other fast foods which you love has a lot of oil and grease which are unhealthy and can make you chubby and unfit.

ProteinsProtein builds and maintains the tissues in your body. (Not the tissues you blow your nose in! We mean the stuff your body’s made up of). Your muscles, your organs, and your immune system (fights germs that make you sick) are made up of protein. Fish, beef, eggs, nuts, seeds and beans have all the protein you need to stay fit and on top of your class.

FibreAn apple a day keeps the doctors away! Apples have a lot of fibre. Fibre is very important for you because it keeps your washroom activities in control and keeps you healthy so you can eat your favourite foods and enjoy your day. Other rich foods that have a lot of fibre are bread, cereals, beans and pears.Although fruits and meat have the nutrients that you need, eating too much can also be bad. A balanced diet is needed for you to be healthy and fit, so make sure you eat a little bit of everything the next time you sit to have lunch or dinner.
